Probably being forced to go underground let's not forget that underground bunkers were being built during the Cold War. Let's not forget if anyone has/had seen Day of the Dead what had remained of the Military the survivors had survived in an underground bunker.
When a zombie apocalypse happens there is no military because almost everyone would leave to go find their family. The military is long gone. Many of their resources remain though.

I was hoping he would get Michonnes part in the comics when she sails away somewhere for a while and then comes back but the show obviously replace Michonne with Rick and when Andrew Linvoln is ready he could come back but I do like your idea as well.
The helicopter seen which failed to pick up Jadis/Anne was a UH-1 Huey which is military aircraft. The one seen in the Season 9 Trailer is a Bell 206 which is mainly civilian/utility/police used. So I agree that whomever is in charge of where they're coming from obviously has a fleet of aircraft......
....and fuel for them. As S9 teases wagons and horses - and a 18 month time jump - will this group continue to be able to fly? For how long before fuel exhausts or goes bad for the choppers?
I believe it is most definitely the government, because there is no way that with all the tech and equipment and apocalyptic preparations the government has that there is nothing left.
@@justsomeclip4697 but whats their name? Walkers Muertos Empties Biters Infected Roamers Seekers Thats their name! Also the reason they can do those actions is because they got stupid over time. But ya season 1 walkers were fuckin scary llollll
I work in aviation and I've always been surprised that TWD had almost no flying aircraft after the first season. Even left for years in a hangar, an airplane or helicopter collects only a small amount of dust depending on how well the doors are sealed. Surely some of the survivors were pilots, and that there were many aircraft at small or private airports. Aviation fuel (jet fuel and avgas 100LL) can last for years in a proper storage tank, even longer in a sealed underground tank. If TWD were a true story, hearing or seeing an aircraft would not be a very rare occurrence. If a community had a pilot and a mechanic, with access to a plane or helicopter, it would be a great advantage over other people.
This is actually the most plausible exit for Rick, but the show is far from ending. They have been very carefully talking about Rick leaving the show; not one mention has been made to hint that Rick will die. From the season 9 trailer, we know that Gabe will be around later in the season. So for one reason or another, the group with the helos doesn't keep Gabe as their "A", and instead, Jadis/Anne gives them Rick. That's where my money is.
First few helicopters in the series are UH-1 Iroquois (Huey’s) used by the US Army until 2009. The last one is a Bell 206. Also called a OH-58 Kiowa or Kiowa Warrior used until 2011 by the US Army. The Huey is used a lot in movies because they’re cheap to operate compared to other military aircraft. Easier than trying to get UH-60 Blackhawks. Average people wouldn’t know the technical differences. Which is where I’m geeking out here. Cheers!
It's been so long....I totally forgot bout the chopper reflection in S1 & forgot bout the Governor shooting down the army helicopter. I remember all the other connections though.
@@horrigan9158 pretty much, there's modern versions of the Huey chopper and some older versions of the Huey (UH-1) that are still in use by our military today. Not much though

@@Blackpanther-cr2vr yeah i agree like to be honest Eugene is on of there best guys cause he is the smartest but even then there is a super low chance of them finding a cure so everyone dying from a huge war with another community or getting over runned by walkers or even both is highly likely. My question is why did the group never try to make a organized assault on Atlanta and get all the tanks and big anti aircraft guns that are behind the sand bags and stuff
We know the military chopper and their group + governor's tank is from fort benning, which according to the tank driver said he left before things went bad, and the chopper group mentions riots (i think I heard that their chopper was damaged in riots). I'm Also pretty sure that I heard fort Benning fell, so the possibility that the military is still functional is very small

Depends, if whoever it is has a good fuel stabilizer their choppers and other transports then the gas they use can be used pretty much indefinitely. If whoever it is found a supply of JP-8, which is possible since they are running Hueys at least, then also again their stuff could be good for a while The US military throws JP-8 at pretty much everything, and it lasts a good amount of time. In saying that regular gas from gas stations at that point in the time line would be normally rendered unusable.
There have been helicopters in Fear The Walking Dead also. When Maddie's group was at the Colony in Mexico Nick saw a helicopter across the border in the US. He told others and got a group together to cross into the US, but a group of men shot most of their group and took Nick prisoner. The survivors saw another helicopter once they got to Texas. Interesting.
season 1, episode 1. the hueys seen as rick leaves the hospital have the crossed sabers and unit numbers of my vietnam unit on their noses. 7th Squadron, 1st Air Cavalry. we were first based at di an, just north of saigon and then moved to vinh long on the mekong. 1968-1972
Well, i definitely believe that the helicopter in first episode was something like a beginning of CRM. I think when the Rick saw an empty helicopter outside of the hospital, it was kind of telling us there is no army anymore and they left or died. So seeing the flying helicopter was like seeing whats left from the army and i think that was the beginning of CRM, like whoever started it, collected the army people and built that secret place. Cause it was very mystrious and strange to see flying helicopter from the beginning of the show and not getting any information towards it untill now. Kind of like seeds of CRM
It can't be the one the governor SHOT DOWN (I think you misspoke on that)! I believe the Helo Rick saw in the beginning was the same one Phillip shot down. I believe the *SECOND* Helo flying near Alexandria, is the same one showing up again & again. Without 'dedicated' refueling areas no one's flying from Georgia to Virginia. I think their in DC somewhere because there are one or two Military airbases just across the Potomac from Alexandria, VA in REAL LIFE.
I don't think I was saying those last two choppers (in S8 and S9) were anything like those first 3....the first 2 were shown flying in Atlanta and the 3rd by the prison. The last 2 were in the Alexandria area (or somewhat close)....both were different and definitely not like the other 3. But both had the same markings. The A and 3 circles...but one had the 3 circles on the body of the chopper and the other on the tail. -Totally not saying that a chopper flew from GA to VA. - Thanks for watching!
I know you knew they were different but re-watch, you literally implied by SPEECH that they were the same. Not throwing no 'SHADE' at ya, lol! Plus you did ask what WE thought it was... right?! Be blessed, glad you figured the problem out too by the way!
He didn't mess up it's just the way you are hearing and interpreting it... I did the same thing at first then had to re-listen to it and he says that the chopper that the Governor shot down is the same one Rick saw at the beginning..... I had to listen 3 times before I understood what he said so don't feel bad
And he says "it could all be the same helicopter" implying that it may be the same helicopter in season 1,2 and 3 but that after that it's definitely different helicopters that Rick was seeing in the later seasons and that Jadis is was waiting on and possibly communicating with
Thanks for help with the clarification Crystal. I cut and edit my voice over and sometimes cut out a part needed or something......one commenter said I needed to stop trying to make videos 10minutes long because they are filled with fluff....I did not try to reach minutes, I actually cut out over 3 minutes.....I think I had some info in between what I said so it did not run together but ended up editing it out.......Also thanks to Dolores for keeping me on my toes and pointing it out, because I do want to make the videos better when I can.
Both were made by Bell helicopter. The first type (atlanta, army ) was a bell model 204/205 or UH-1 Huey in military nomenclature. The second heli at the trash dump was a Bell 206 Jet ranger or OH-58 Kiowa.
The first two flying helicopters (over Atlanta and then by Herschel's Farm) looked like civilian Bell JetRangers. The one flying over Atlanta, the one that distracted Rick and caused him to ride his horse into the crowd of zombies, may have just been another random survivor remnant and a plot device to separate Rick from the horse and cause him to eventually meet Glenn. But later the producers probably thought, "Hey, let's use this for more stuff!" That's why the helicopter that led zombies to Hershel's farm may have been doing it on purpose. Not necessarily to attack the farm, but just to lead a herd away from the helicopter owners. The Bell JetRanger is super common especially in cities; police forces, news crews, all sorts of groups use them. Then the military helicopter was a UH-1 Huey Iroquois, which is actually no longer in use by the military but perhaps we can say they brought back some old ones because of shortages or something. Yeah, a bit out there to say it was brought down by a rifle but maybe they had a big Barret .50.....? Okay, I'm stretching it a bit. The helicopter and the small truck convoy that the Governor ambushed were only groups from a military survival community that we never get to see more of, which is too bad, because they seemed to maintain their order & discipline and unit cohesion... mostly. They certainly still have resources if they can keep a helo flying. Maybe that's why we don't see them again-- an intact military unit wouldn't be much interest to the plot. Then the two helicopters we see with Jadis-- one is another military style Huey Iroquois, and the other one (over the trees in Season 9) is a OH-58 Kiowa, which is the military version of the Bell JetRanger. It was used for scouting and observation but it could carry out a wounded person or maybe bring a handful of troops (like, maybe three or four). Anne/Jadis looks like she's in that section of forest where Rick & the Saviors had their final battle, when the Saviors' guns exploded. Maybe she's picking through the wreckage of the battle and finds something interesting?
I think the chopper is from the commonwealth and jadis is tasked with finding people worthy enough to join up. First with negan because of his strong leadership capabilities and then Rick in season 9 because of the things he did in season 8
The reflection of the helicopter looked to be all one dark color where as the helicopter that lead the zombies to Hershels farm looked dark on the bottom but light colored on the rides, it could be due to light reflecting off of it but it shouldn't have made THAT much of a difference. The military helicopters color matches the reflection of the first one seen so its a possibility they are the same. You can tell the last two helicopters he went over are definitely not the same ones because they are two completely different models, saying they are different because the decals are in different spots makes me believe you'd think they were the same helicopter if they were in the same spots which is like saying a mustang looks just like a camaro just because they have the same decals...
The Helicopter over the junk-yard and the one shot down by the Governor are Hughes (later Bell Helicopters) UH-1 "Hueys". The helicopter in the close-up with the person radioing it is a Bell 206 (maybe a 505) "Jet Ranger". Obviously not the same helicopter, and easy to spot if you're into aviation at all. Kind of like not being able to tell the difference between a 4-door sedan and a mini-van at distance. Forgivable, if you aren't into cars at all, but once you know the difference it's painfully obvious.
One thing to remember is maintaining a helicopter in the waking dead world is likely to be really hard as when the spare parts run out you can't make any more without a lot function factory and technology capacity
I think the first 3 helicopters were separate but they were all military remnants, then the ones in season 8 and later are obviously CRM I still think there are Military remnants near Atlanta.
and the phonecall rick got in prison , maybe the commonwealth is finding and gathering ppl that survived , and monitor them before taking any actions , thats how they knew ricks’s name on the phone call and that a group of ppl is at prison
Most of the helicopters, even possibly the one seen in the pilot episode might be one of the CRM. Also they might exist even from before the apocalypse, this because it's possible that they are some militar or government remmants due to their professionalism
If I had a helicopter and all the recourses to operate it in twd I would save it to use for drawing hordes to my enemies and for a last ditch escape option
The junkyard may have been selling freshly infected victims to the Commonwealth for research. This would explain Rick having to fight the walker when he first arrived at the junkyard. Jaydis may have been planning to sell an infected Negan. Also, this scenario could be used to have Rick leave the show without dying, if Jaydis offers to have him sent to the Commonwealth for experimental treatment.
Nobody has made the connection between The walking dead and Fear the walking dead ... The Helicopter comes surely from another community, and its probably the link that will allow the 2 shows to meet up and become 1.
That's a great theory but there is a reason people don't make the connection....there isn't one. FEAR happens too far away from where TWD happens and the choppers can't be connected. As we know now, the connection that might bring the two shows together will be Morgan. The helicopter in S08/S09 does come from another community for sure....and fans theorize it will be The Commonwealth from the comics. - Thanks for watching!
I always thought the helicopters were meant to lead the Zombies away from a certain area so that society could be rebuild there and that Rick and the gang by trying to outrun the horde also got further away from the new society cause that would be poetic i guess
Maybe they're out to save people because of Ann (jadice) and the flare. Since there are helipads in the junkyard they could make routine landings there and ann's crew could be trying to contact them with flares. This could explain why Rick gets carried away in a helicopter at the end of his last episode.
Really interesting video! I follow you from Italy. I am really sad about the first 3 helicopters and I think that the new helicopter is from Commonwealth, and I hope they was a part of Government/Military and maybe have someone studying the cure. Also I think at numbers ... 50000 people it’s mean that 1-2 people for weeks can die , if they didn’t find a cure I think this community was overrun some weeks after Wildfire outbreaks, so maybe they can have a cure (maybe they dind it with what’s remain of French CDC?) . (just my opinion, and sorry for low English)
Hey there Italy! Yes without a cure handling 50000 in a camp would be a hard task - dealing with the dying people. It'll be interesting how it plays out in the show. - Thanks so much for watching!
When Jadis said people are resources i think she gives these people to the group with the helicopters (CRM) for resources like food, water and perhaps medicine
I just came here to comment.. The Walking Dead is.... Dead. It's. No longer relevant, no longer entertaining, and there is almost no place it could go to bring itself back... *plz keep reading.. **RIP Scott Wilson aka HERSHAL* . The show creator has said multiple times, there will be *NO CURE, NO ATTEMPT* at cure, and no explanation to how it happend. This show has become an endurance race.. It's constant bad shit, after bad shit, after more bad shit, happening to the cast. What little hope they have in the show is usually dashed away with every new threat.. Then the new threat kills one or more of the original cast. They eventually kill the threat, and try to rebuild AGAIN... . . It has almost become a chore to watch this show... As I said before, there is ALMOST nothing they could do to bring the show back to its previous glory. I mean, face it, it's never gonna be a great top rated show ever again... They dug themselves a huge hole they can't get out of now... I for 1 won't be watching anymore... Not unless there is some sort of massive game changing revelation... Or the show goes against the creator...
Yes, now they should be attempting to find a cure or explanation. Like you said, it's now shit after shit, reapeating itself... The humans are more of a threat than the walkers, so it's mostly a post apocalyptic show but not really a zombie show anymore. It was fun the first time with the Governor but it's getting redondant. Of course, they get used to the walkers and won't react like they did the first times but enough of the petty fights among humans and the slaughters, if they want to put spice to the show, they need to find a cure or explanation now.
Hate to agree with you but you’re right. I didn’t even start watching until season 6 and I binge watched everything to catch up. I’m a newer viewer and I’m getting bored because I’m waiting for a conclusion that will never come. That’s why I tuned out of Lost back in the day. With Rick leaving, so will my views. I’ll watch until his departure but I don’t have many expectations for the show itself anymore.
So well said. The whole appeal for this show in the first place was founded in the traditional viewer expectation that all will be explained and resolved of one day. That was why everyone allowed themselves to invest emotionally in this show in the first place. Now that we know there's no glimmer of hope on the horizon for an explanation or resolution of events, it's only natural that we feel humiliated & betrayed. Now we know they were always just cashing in on our naivety while trying to hide the fact there never was a creative vision in the first place. It's like this: Why did we care about Rick, Daryl, Carl, Michonne, and Carol? Because we saw them as the heroes. However, the only way to tell a hero story is by utilizing the timeless trope of the hero's journey. But now that we know we'll never get a resolution-- the most important stage of the hero's journey --these characters have suddenly lost all value because they were never actually heroes at all. They were always just replaceable characters walking a path with no end destination. With this revelation in mind, the only response is, "What was the point of any of this? After all this heartache and subverting of our expectations, you never actually had a conclusion in mind? In that case, you and your entire show can go to Hell!"
I had heard somewhere that Robert Kirkman had put aliens as the cause of the epidemic and retracted it since the comics executives didn't like the idea but apparently it's not exactly what happened, Robert Kirkman had lied about it: comicbook.com/thewalkingdead/2018/07/20/the-walking-dead-robert-kirkman-aliens-lie/ Honestly, I would prefer aliens than nothing at all...
Not sure if someone mentioned this already. Most of the helicopters are Hueys. Which are military transport choppers and gunships. But the versions they are using are outdated. The most recent version of the Huey was used by the USMC in the United States military. I honestly do not know if it is still in service. Huey’s were first used in the Vietnam war. They were made for speed. So they had very little armor. But with how fast it was going I highly doubt someone could shoot it down with only two shots. Not sure about the other type of helicopter. I normally see them as news choppers. I hope this helps a little.
One of the people in charge, can't remember if it was Kirkman or Gimple said helicopters were a symbol of hope that there are more people out there but their significance wouldn't come about til a later season. Then they have helicopters on Fear.
No, it's not the same helicopter. In season 1 episode 1. When Ricks sees the refection of the helicopter, the helicopter is shade of light green. It's hard to tell if it is the same helicopter in season 2 when the farm gets overrun. It most likely is because Rick sees the helicopter on day 60. and the farm was overrun on day 82 Although it is indeed not the same helicopter. In season 3 when the governor shoots it down. because it was day 303 when the governor shot it down. What I was also looking at is the distance of travel, and the day's. It was be easier for me to explain in person. Posted on October 17th, 2020. If I edit my comment I will punch in the date that I edited it.
At 8:11, one is a Bell Huey helicopter and one is a Bell 429 GlobalRanger variant. 2 totally different choppers, so that means there are more than 1 for sure.

I believe it is most definitely the government, because there is no way that with all the tech and equipment and apocalyptic preparations the government has that there is nothing left.

That happens in s3 of ftwd but it doesn't work out well

Cheers!

wouldn't the chopper fuel degrade and become unusable over time?
Beavis it's a show,plz don't ruin it for us
As would the gasoline in the numerous cars and trucks the drive. 8 real years and 4 or so T.V. years would make the gas useless.
I think that will be one of the reasons that they will be using more horse drawn vehicles.
Beavis Over time yes, over even 10 years probably not.
Anything Kerosene based lasts quite a bit longer than regular gas.
Sounds like the years close to when my Dad was there. He was infantry. Delta Co.
It could be the CRM? I think that's what the 3 rings are because of portland, ohmaha, and civic Republic military of Philadelphia.

The entire outline of each helicopter is different
First with negan because of his strong leadership capabilities and then Rick in season 9 because of the things he did in season 8
welp rick is having helicopterphobia
the first chopper has 7th cav markings on the nose, the one shot down don't.
1st of the 7th, Custers Unit
1st heli at the hospital couldn't have been the one flying around. It didn't have an engine.
@@insertjjs lol true
Honestly they should've just had it be the same chopper throughout the series they screwed up having it crash in s3 IMO
Hope Kirkman doesn't screw it up...

Video title "helicopters explained". Actual video: just speculating.
In the final episode
Arnold : Get into the chopa now
The Helicopter over the junk-yard and the one shot down by the Governor are Hughes (later Bell Helicopters) UH-1 "Hueys".
Rick: Sees Helicopter in season 1.
*meets Glenn and gets introduced to the group
Also Rick: So imma pretend that never happened
I think the first 3 helicopters were separate but they were all military remnants, then the ones in season 8 and later are obviously CRM I still think there are Military remnants near Atlanta.
The helicopter in the junkyard scene is most likely a Huey, the one in season nine is more of commercial helicopter
and the phonecall rick got in prison , maybe the commonwealth is finding and gathering ppl that survived , and monitor them before taking any actions , thats how they knew ricks’s name on the phone call and that a group of ppl is at prison
It was from a plot thread that was killed with the firing of Frank Darabont and the lowering of the budget for the second season.

Crm not commonwealth
@@joshuabostock9092 Yes. My mistake.

I just came here to comment.. The Walking Dead is.... Dead. It's. No longer relevant, no longer entertaining, and there is almost no place it could go to bring itself back... *plz keep reading.. **RIP Scott Wilson aka HERSHAL*
.
It's like this:
Why did we care about Rick, Daryl, Carl, Michonne, and Carol? Because we saw them as the heroes. However, the only way to tell a hero story is by utilizing the timeless trope of the hero's journey. But now that we know we'll never get a resolution-- the most important stage of the hero's journey --these characters have suddenly lost all value because they were never actually heroes at all. They were always just replaceable characters walking a path with no end destination.
With this revelation in mind, the only response is, "What was the point of any of this? After all this heartache and subverting of our expectations, you never actually had a conclusion in mind? In that case, you and your entire show can go to Hell!"
I had heard somewhere that Robert Kirkman had put aliens as the cause of the epidemic and retracted it since the comics executives didn't like the idea but apparently it's not exactly what happened, Robert Kirkman had lied about it: comicbook.com/thewalkingdead/2018/07/20/the-walking-dead-robert-kirkman-aliens-lie/
Honestly, I would prefer aliens than nothing at all...
I keep thinking of how good the show would have been if the original writer was still on board. I heard he was treated very badly, so bad that he quit

It's hard to tell if it is the same helicopter in season 2 when the farm gets overrun. It most likely is because Rick sees the helicopter on day 60. and the farm was overrun on day 82 Although it is indeed not the same helicopter.
