Love how you noted UA-camrs are some of the hardest people you know because I can definitely attest to that and many people may not think so! That's a major reason I value making creator friends - we can resonate with each other about working LONGER hours than even consulting (my world as a full-time consultant and part-time UA-camr haha) by choice and the pure joy of creating. @@rohankamath88 inside Queston- why when I achieved a new commission with my workplace did Quora instantly start sending trending topics on recruitment and such? Is there a cookie sharing or something? I was hired internally with no outside application information pending on any job/career board.
As an influencer manager who has worked in the industry for 7+ years - and seen the space evolve dramatically over time - I want to thank you for being part of the new class of content creators who are using their platforms to educate and set a positive example for young people. It's about planting seeds for the future, utilizing the job to make connections particularly in consulting. Thinking long-term and learning in that environment instead of rushing things is smart. Not as applicable to the average person depending on the job. But steer each job closer to what might interest you and explore whenever possible, it's not just about how much your paid either. Extracting as much value through learning from any job is valuable.
I love your videos! I find them inspirational because you bring value to any organization and position. Yet, you never surrender your personal goals and aspirations. Very motivational.

I recently started to watch your vlogs. I'm probably not in you target demographic, a good deal older. I enjoy your story telling ability, warmth and wit along with your love for NYC. In watching an older post I saw that you live in a rent stabilized apartment. As someone who grew up in NYC and started my career there , I am absolutely amazed that your beautiful apartment is rent stabilized. Never move, you have hit the apartment lottery. With all of it's blemishes and problems NYC is still great and I will continue to enjoy it through your eyes and our yearly visits.

I feel great now, so I spend so many hours editing my videos, but I thought it was me alone! I think it's great for you to have both jobs because the contacts you'll make will be very worthwhile! While you don't quit your UA-cam channel, and you'll grow to share more in it if you have all that skills and contacts for your future, I think you made a very good decision.

I am perfectionist myself, and wish I learned this earlier. The need for controlling every aspect of my life and holding myself to unrealistic expectations really did a number on me. However, now that I unlearned that, omg! I can honestly say there is a greater satisfaction in life and the heavy burden has been lifting off my shoulders.

My goal for this year is to make enough from online content creation, as to have that same freedom that you have: to either be full-time creator or a mix of both content creation and day job. I personally would go full-time creator, but I’m glad you know what you really want in your professional career!
I have my future planned out similar to yours Taylor. I just started consulting and im hoping that after a couple or few years I’ll have obtained the knowledge, experience, and connections to be able to be take the exit option and be my own boss for my own venture(s) while being location independent. Hopefully this works out for the both of us ❤🙏🏻

Honeslty you are my inspiration when it comes to doing a full time consulting job and making youtubes although the later I have seriously struggled to balance with my work in consulting, and I have to give you massive props for handling it brilliantly!
I totally relate when you said editing is the most manual labor that's out there and it's so time consuming!!, BUT at the same time I love editing and I feel different, to give that task away to an editor..:/

What I appreciate about your platform is that it breathes fresh air into what I have perceived to be an increasingly stale space of trite content that peddles truisms and halfassedly promotes products, often without the proper disclaimers (this may have changed now, with the new regulations and algorithm).
Further, the previous wave of content creators seemed to espouse an anti-corporate rhetoric without any nuance, whereas you astutely weigh the pros and cons between content creation and a corporate job, a nod to your consulting skills.
Your theme is on point: there is no gospel here: there are so many variables, and your mentioning of exit opportunities is on point. With content creation, you are a brand, and so your exit opportunities are tied to your niche and unique talents.
In a corporate setting, people do have a certain brand, but there is a pecking order, with the obvious upside of more stability, as well as, and this is key, benefits.
Curious about health insurance, 401k, etc. for high income UA-camrs, as health insurance will probably eat a lion’s share of their gross, and they are likely priced out of more affordable marketplace plans without the discounted premiums offered by employers.
Congrats on starting the job Taylor! And you are definitely a Virgo, but I am just as much a Pisces. lol I love the perspective on jobs being transactional! That is a great way to think about it.

Too many people don't think of trying to optimize the amount of value you can get from working a job. Especially much larger firms. Free training, instant network within the industry (which you may be able leverage when you start your own business), income stability, technical knowledge and experience that you wouldn't get elsewhere, easier to borrow money from the bank, the fact that the company has to pay you severance if they lay you off, you get employment insurance in case shtf...
2:26 true! people get mislead into thinking that youtube is easy just because the people at the top are just so humble (they are at the top because they are humble). In truth it might be dumb luck to go viral but to have people comeback to your movies consistently is a darn hard task. It's also so hard to stay relevant, think of your favorite creator 2yr ago and favorite creator now.

Definitely inspired by what you do! Hoping to not only get into consulting but would love to explore UA-cam as a hobby as I've always loved content creation and have been blogging my travel experiences. Would love to learn more about how you find time to record and edit youtube videos with the 11+ hour work days in management consulting and how you started to gain greater revenue through youtube, aside from ads/views. Keep up the awesome content!
Godspeed Taylor! Hope you find a good balance. All jobs are transactional, but management consulting and IB might be the very epitome of that. It’s get up or get out mentality at MBB - in your case BCG. To even have the hours of doing a second job while also maximizing your time there is no easy task, but it’s certainly worth a try. 95% usually won’t last/remain for more than two years for their own sanity, so you might just be able to squeeze out as much as you possibly can within that time frame. Excellent way to build your network, although I do question the value management consultants bring. The models, slide decks etc all look fancy, but at the end of the day you’re basically validating the opinion of a CEO or have the authority to implement changes which has been said by in-house employees for years without them ever receiving the credit for it.
In a nut shell? The job is basically a CEO asking what the time is, while I as a consultant tell them based on the watch on their wrist, and then I bill them the watch for the service. 😂

The one standout point that wasn't talked about is being able to negotiate the time in-between jobs to focus on the channel. Most companies would want you to start as soon as you can! Brava that you were able to do that to grow the channel to continue providing that income stream. Looking forward to seeing that balance between the two, but you have a good head on your shoulders -- you can do it!
