I wonder what people will think about this movie years from now, it seems to have polarized the fan base, but just remember Empire had a very mixed reaction when it came out.
Jordan The Fanboy stop twisting narrative empire had mixed response from critics while last jedi had mixed response from audience
I think some of the fans need a bit more time to digest the decisions of the movie, maybe after ep.9 the whole trilogy makes some sense for them

I’ve been hyped for this for two years, and I haven’t seen it because I bought tickets to a really nice theater this coming Friday. I was doing really well avoiding spoilers, and couldn’t wait to be surprised. Then, a friend of mine who saw the movie last week decided it would be funny if he spoiled EVERY MAJOR PLOT POINT! So now I will never get to experience this movie without any information.
I abselutely loved it!! It`s so different from the other movies, and it really adds a lot of great stuff to the Star Wars universe.
I think a lot of people are bothered by how different this movie is. The Original Trilogy was the classic Hero's journey, which is a universal story structure, and why I think it resonated so well with people. The Prequels went a much more politics-focused direction, in addition to adding some new ideas into the mix, and people hated them (I mean, there are lots of problems with dialogue and annoying/stereotyped characters, but aside from those..).
This new series is throwing so much else into the mix, and the people who love Star Wars for the heroe's journey... of course they're going to hate it. I don't blame them, however I am definitely not one of them. I LOVE what they did with this movie (with the exception of that one animal you mentioned, and some of the humor was too marvel-ish for my taste), and how they threw cliches out of the water. People are going to hate it no matter what direction it goes. If they took the route of the Hero's journey again, people would complain it was a remake. If they kept all the same characters they'd say something about plot armor. You just can't please everyone because everyone has different reasons for liking it.
Me? I love Star Wars because they're fun movies, and because they have a lot of interesting ideas about people and how the world works.

I did the exact safe star geek! every year whenever a new star wars movie comes I skip school and go see it with my dad and just chill out!

I only disliked 3 things about the film
-Now, ffs, WHO THE HELL IS SNOKE? I feel they could've used the character better
-Leia flying through space (really really hated that tbh)
-Finn and Rose's plot. I mean, the part of the casino was interesting, but I have the feeling they could've cut that out of the film. Also, Rose saving Finn because love and shit WHILE THE WHOLE RESISTANCE BASE BLOWS UP KILLING MANY OF THEIR FRIENDS felt stupid as hell.
Apart from this, great pacing, great fun, the action scenes were intense and unexpected as hell, and most importantly: it is FRESH. Rian Johnson did what JJ Abrams should've done in Ep. 7, being brave and launching the franchise into a new direction, that sadly, not evreryone has to like, but there was no way to avoid that.
Everything in this movie was much better than TFA. Rae in TFA I didn't like too much, but now she is one of my favorite Jedi ever. The plot finally got away from just rerunning old plot lines (like a new Death Star), but you could see some mirrorization of ESB. I placed it 3rd as well in my favorite Star Wars list (behind ESB and ROTS). Overall, I rated 8.5/10 because it was a little too quick paced for me, and there were some unnessecary scenes). Go see it, its new and fantastic

Good story, but bad directing with bad jokes at bad moments. A lot of great moments, but a lot of bad ones too. The very ending felt like an advertisement for Disney Parks. While there were many awesome points, as a whole my brain didn't even accept it as an official Star Wars movie, and it didn't feel real. So far it's the worst one, but I want to go see it again to see if a second viewing will change my mind somewhat

I give it a B+. The performances were fantastic and very well-done across the board. The story and characters were great, but I did have one thing that kept me from giving it an A. If I could determine a root cause for any negative feelings that I have, it’s the constant interruption of any mood/emotion that begins to swell because we have to have one-liners and slapstick in EVERY scene to break the tone it tries to set. It’s like playing a piano smoothly and flawlessly, then hitting a sour note to take you out of it and interrupt the emotion and captivating tone of the music playing. There’s nothing wrong with the melodies or the notes written, but the imperfect person playing the piano hitting those jarring notes often can cause some issues when you watch/listen to it. The characters and underlying story, I gave an A with no apology. The CONSTANT tone interruptions, that’s where it took me out. Anyway, I’m still planning on seeing this multiple times as I’ve done every Star Wars movie since the Phantom Menace in 1999. Star Wars is the reason I fell in love with movie theaters!
Definitely better than episode 7... TONS of plot twists that kept the story new and interesting! There were TONS of times I was LEGITIMATELY wondering what they would do next! It was SO TENSE!!!

Really disappointed in your opinion, Star Geek. I don't know how you can even say that this gives us a richer look at the OT characters than ever before. Leia is the only character who benefited from this movie.

cjua2803 that is true and annoying, I agree definitely about the 3/9 movies, but honestly, I do think we got a solid fan base. When you have films that have as HUGE of a fan base as this one, there are gonna be rotten people, but I also think we have a great fan base! I went to opening new night for VII, Rouge, and VIII, and I loved the experience with my fellow geeks! The laughing, cheering, and being able to connect with one another!

Sand lmao you picture though. I like all the films except episode 2 which is a mess but I come across too many people who complain about how nothing is ever good as the originals. As for fan bases go I still like the lotr one. Those movies are damn near perfect in terms of cinema

Mixed bag of a movie. When it hit high it went REAL high, but it had some serious issues with pacing and character motivations, especially in the B plot and the convergence of the A and B plot. Overall I think it's around 7.5/10 and much better than the prequels. I think I'd place it on the same level as Return of the Jedi because both movie have very similar problems imo.

Firstly it decided to completely ignore the force awakens who are reys parents oh nobody that wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't hype it up so much in the last film same with Snoke big build up powerful vilain oh wait he is dead and kylo goes so cliche nah we can rule together that was good in the ot but in TLJ is out of place and cheesy just a cheap death for an interesting bad guy the scene after was cool because we had a cool fight but the silly light saber throw kill poke him in the eye bit was just silly would be ok in clone wars or rebels but not here
Ok Luke yes I can understand he doesn't want to teach rey but he could been more developed and teach her that the Jedi did get some stuff wrong but still fucking teach her also he could have been more developed and helped and do cool shit in the next film but instead he dies a cheap death also the fucking blade of grass reaching out that was fucking hilarious SARCASM
Leia was decent we saw her as a strong leader then she flies through space in just a ridulousy cheesy way apparently she can use the force fine out of nowhere
Yoda looked weird and acted strange
Fin was just boring comic relief which wasn't funny rose was even worse so annoying none of the humour landed their oh casino plot was a waste of time oh look at the poor Oliver twist kids for a couple minutes then they get betrayed out of nowhere for a cheap twist
Then phasma dies after 30 seconds
Craite battle wasn't Craite pun intended it was quick had no emotional depth waste of time oh look fin is going to sacrifice himself oh cool I don't care anymore oh wait rose to the rescue oh fuck of rose oh I love you kiss FUCKKKKING hell the cheesy shite is off the scale
Oh luke tricked them cool oh what he's dead oh ok WHAT! No emotional weight killing him off so soon was stupid
Leia should have died luke fails to save her so Luke would have a reason to fight next movie
Rey is even more Mary sue she can take down all those guards after a day and a half of so called training
Poe and the resistance yay poe got more screen time but the plot was dull I liked that he was rebellious but then we find out holdo had a plan all along but didn't tell him oh fuck off then she sacrificed herself oh are we supposed to care ok cool shot but no emotional weight
The HUMOUR OH GOD it was awful it took me out of the whole film oh a serious scene ok how can we make it ridiculous oh I'll put you on hold humour that goes on for too long beating you over the head with it just not funny. Luke milking the animal and drinking it we don't need to see this in star wars just unessasary like some much of the film some of the humour was prequel slapstick. And I almost forgot the last scene of TFA rey holds out the lightsaber and he just throws it away fuck off that would happen just another cheap shock
Oh chewie was in this movie for 5 seconds oh he's eating porgs oh no he feels bad no he's a fucking wookie he would tear your arm off if you pissed him off
The TFA had problems but I enjoyed it it had a lot of set up and this movie ruined that it's like the director didn't watch the previous film

Thomas Johnson Like wasting Snoke in the 2nd act or making Rey's parents seem important just to reveal that they are nothing or finn and rose's half an hour animal saving story arc or Phasma getting boba fetted for a second time or ending every storyline that they set up for two movies even though there will be another movie or making Kylo the main villian even though Rey already beat him once or killing Luke even though we never saw how strong he became in lightsaber combat. (Which would have been epic to see but we just saw some vision Luke dodging two of Kylo's attacks. What a battle scene amiright? Btw can we get lightsaber fights that last more than 2 minutes?) Oh don't forget that Luke was sucking milk from a creepy ass alien cow. Ok I think that's about it. :)

For the people bitching about Leia “flying” in space, stop, just fucking stop. No one, unless you’re fucking Superman or a DBZ character, can fly in space because there is no gravity. All Leia did was use the force to pull herself towards the ship
