Last year I spent a month touring the four corner states in the South West, Canyon Lands, Grand Canyon, stayed in Monument Valley for a few days and much more. Loved the country and the Americans I met.

We know how to be British, or English (which is where the problem often lies). Most people I know can't stand Fox. He comes from a rich and privileged family of actors & he still seems angry. He's all over news media claiming he's being silenced. British values and decorum would have a lot more dignity than he's showing. Stiff upper lip and an old fashioned sense of inclusivity. I haven't listened to much of Laurence Fox before but I have to say 'well said'. Especially re 'false diversity' and 'true diversity'. So true about encouraging children to relate to others who have different values and how to engage in reasonable and rational argument, and remain friends! Laurence Fox is a courageous guy to stick his neck out like this. However, I doubt if he will ever be able to earn a living as an actor in the present ambiance.
This is the most articulate and informed discussion on its subject that I have ever heard - very much of the quality of Alistair Cook's "Letter from America" essays. The themes discussed are of the utmost importance: Freedom of expression and worship, and from stereotyping, fairness and generosity to others, national pride, equity before the law, and objective study of history rather than its exploitation. In well over six decades of experience, I have never known a time when these tenets and aspirations of British culture have seemed so threatened, nor to be so casually discarded. This interview was thoughtful and uplifting, a treat. It is truly worth an award.
It's so refreshing isn't it. It's hard to put your head above the parapet especially in his profession as he mentioned. Could I recommend a talk called 'In what do we trust? Learning from History' by Tom Holland (who was mentioned in this interview) which I watched last night. It really crystallized the christian underpinnings of our western society.
I watched Lewis and felt great sadness when I watched the last episode. But now that Laurence is front and center I can enjoy his great mind, his levelheadedness, the fact that he teaches his sons critical thinking as well as compassion, I am newly smitten. I'm a Christian. At the root of all this are spiritual questions about truth and reason and God. It's a spiritual battle. I don't have a t.v. licence because I refuse to give a penny to the BBC, an institution that is anti Christ. I did not have a social media account because I value free speech and don't fancy losing my job because of voicing Christian opinions. Mr. Fox we so need someone as wise, realistic and articulate as you are in the U.S. I also grew up from a young age with parents regularly inviting our interpretations of classical thought. My brother and I had a discussion in the 1970’s when we finally made sense of what we were experiencing. The mediocre and lowest common denominator were the goal, creating very challenging lives for those of us raised to value excellence and integrity. I see my daughter’s family of seven young children quite strictly managed to allow them time to build a solid foundation before exposure to the worldly winds that blow and, in fact, is necessary to building a creative, productive life. The violent hypocrisy of the day will inevitably implode from rotten lack of rational thought. A reactive, illogical and immature approach to life has been trained into people since early childhood, with bullying peer pressure adding to it. Please know your courage and wisdom are so precious, not only as a light of truth but in raising children who hopefully will love seeking the truth and are willing to sacrifice for it. The importance of understanding of your opponents as well as your own belief as adults or in education of children of all beliefs is paramount of understanding of ourselves and others. As a Yank educated in the states, of over 20 years of young children, I found understanding, empathy and debate formed a more and understanding individual as a whole. As time has passed I have come to appreciate my father's strictness around the evening meal : there were two reasons, and two only that you might be excused from not being present - in good time - at the dinner table...you were either at death's door, or you were out of the country. Nobody began eating until everyone was seated and nobody could leave until everyone had finished. If you needed the loo you came straight back. Some of the discussions we had went on until the gravy had dried and covered any and every subject. Now I understand what he was doing and lament that this has been lost.

Aside from the one-sided “reporting” of the BBC overflowing with prejudice and missing backstories just like PBS and NPR here in the USA, is the decline in the quality of programming and even English grammar. I used to recommend that non-native English speakers watch BBC to improve their English. Now the use of the object pronoun instead of the correct subject pronoun is routine, along with many other misuses of words & grammar. And the programming is typically violence-packed fare, often featuring child abuse, abuse of women, and even things such as devil worship. In the USA these shows are called “Masterpiece Theatre”.

Sad to say that's where most Atheists and other non-Christians get Christianity and their understanding of the Bible so very wrong. It can be summed up in three words, that make all the difference - FAITH, HOPE, LOVE. Many words can be written and ideas articulated that try to explain or define these three words, but they fall far short of the Christian reality. All attempts can be made to create copies of how these three words appear to play out in Christianity, but they also fall far short of the Christian reality. WHY?? The Christian's FAITH is God-given (Romans 10:17 "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."). The Christian's HOPE is God-given (1 Peter 1:13 "Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ."). The Christian's LOVE is God-given (John 15:16-17 "You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. These things I command you, that you love one another.") The reality that separates a Christian (not a person who simply claims this title, but one who genuinely trusts and believes in the resurrected Jesus Christ, as Lord and Saviour) from non-Christians is explained in Hebrews 8:10 "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people." Love is my motivation in spending this time writing this reply. It is my sincere prayer (to my loving, eternal Creator God and Saviour of the Bible) that those who read this reply, will be encouraged and strengthened in their Christian faith journey, and that those currently not on that faith journey (those who do not enjoy the lasting peace and full assurance that a restored relationship with our Creator provides) will recognize that every lie, every act of hatred towards another, every lustful look etc is rightfully deserving of death in the holy eyes of a righteous and almighty judge, and bring them to their knees in deep sorrow and repentance seeking the only source of lasting life, Jesus Christ, in humility and child-like trust.

Laurence Fox gives med hope for a better future arising for the british. His voice and language makes one remember why one held the UK in high regard. I am not british, but love the UK of good conversations, tolerance, understatements, humor and elegance. A UK that no longer exist, but it would be a gift of grace to see it return for the lovely british people. Of course ut is not possible to go back, but mowing forwards it should be possible to find the root of the values once held by the inhabitans of the United Kingdom, if leaders with visiones and common sense arise and take their place. Last year I spent a month touring the four corner states in the South West, Canyon Lands, Grand Canyon, stayed in Monument Valley for a few days and much more. Loved the country and the Americans I met.

We know how to be British, or English (which is where the problem often lies). Most people I know can't stand Fox. He comes from a rich and privileged family of actors & he still seems angry. I haven't listened to much of Laurence Fox before but I have to say 'well said'. Especially re 'false diversity' and 'true diversity'. So true about encouraging children to relate to others who have different values and how to engage in reasonable and rational argument, and remain friends! I'm a Christian. At the root of all this are spiritual questions about truth and reason and God. It's a spiritual battle. Mr. Fox we so need someone as wise, realistic and articulate as you are in the U.S. I also grew up from a young age with parents regularly inviting our interpretations of classical thought. My brother and I had a discussion in the 1970’s when we finally made sense of what we were experiencing. The mediocre and lowest common denominator were the goal, creating very challenging lives for those of us raised to value excellence and integrity.

As time has passed I have come to appreciate my father's strictness around the evening meal : there were two reasons, and two only that you might be excused from not being present - in good time - at the dinner table...you were either at death's door, or you were out of the country.
Nobody began eating until everyone was seated and nobody could leave until everyone had finished. If you needed the loo you came straight back.
Some of the discussions we had went on until the gravy had dried and covered any and every subject.

Aside from the one-sided “reporting” of the BBC overflowing with prejudice and missing backstories just like PBS and NPR here in the USA, is the decline in the quality of programming and even English grammar. I used to recommend that non-native English speakers watch BBC to improve their English. Now the use of the object pronoun instead of the correct subject pronoun is routine, along with many other misuses of words & grammar. And the programming is typically violence-packed fare, often featuring child abuse, abuse of women, and even things such as devil worship. In the USA these shows are called “Masterpiece Theatre”.

Many words can be written and ideas articulated that try to explain or define these three words, but they fall far short of the Christian reality.
All attempts can be made to create copies of how these three words appear to play out in Christianity, but they also fall far short of the Christian reality. WHY??
The Christian's FAITH is God-given (Romans 10:17 "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.").
The Christian's HOPE is God-given (1 Peter 1:13 "Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.").
The Christian's LOVE is God-given (John 15:16-17 "You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. These things I command you, that you love one another.")
The reality that separates a Christian (not a person who simply claims this title, but one who genuinely trusts and believes in the resurrected Jesus Christ, as Lord and Saviour) from non-Christians is explained in Hebrews 8:10 "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people."
Love is my motivation in spending this time writing this reply.
It is my sincere prayer (to my loving, eternal Creator God and Saviour of the Bible) that those who read this reply, will be encouraged and strengthened in their Christian faith journey, and that those currently not on that faith journey (those who do not enjoy the lasting peace and full assurance that a restored relationship with our Creator provides) will recognize that every lie, every act of hatred towards another, every lustful look etc is rightfully deserving of death in the holy eyes of a righteous and almighty judge, and bring them to their knees in deep sorrow and repentance seeking the only source of lasting life, Jesus Christ, in humility and child-like trust.

I am not british, but love the UK of good conversations, tolerance, understatements, humor and elegance. I’m currently watching lockdown protest in London live. Not able to comment but if you hear reports of 100’s protesting you can multiply that by 100 or even 1000! Tens of thousands in the street. Beautiful
