I agree with your point of view (as usual) that this storyline actually makes neither of them look very good. And yet, either one of them could quite easily "win" the moral high ground - there was one clear "Good Girl move" in this situation: to go directly to Ridge, tell him everything and then leave him alone to make his own decision. That would have been a "sacrifice" as well as a proof of love, and as such (by the rules of plot karma) would have guaranteed a favorable outcome for whoever first thought to make that move. *The dead cat gambit* Remember that time way back when Anthony pretended to grieve for his dead cat in order to win Macy's sympathies (episode 1701)? He's doing it again here. Ivana is now the dead cat. This seed was planted _over a year ago._ The palindrome continues, and we have now reached point 6 on my list (from episode 1956). Anthony is still in the process of repeating his first months on the show, played backwards. It's quite a striking example of long term plot structure and continuity, unusual in how it's based on abstract symmetry rather than a traditional soap opera story arc. Of course, one might argue that we are inclined to spot patterns even when they are not intended as such, and I don't rule out that some of my "symmetry points" may not be entirely intentional on the writers' part. However, some of them are so specific and out of the ordinary that they are difficult to explain away as mere coincidence - this "dead cat gambit" being the most obvious one. In retrospect, Anthony inventing the story of his cat dying and observing how Macy responded to it becomes a kind of "test run" for him using the same scheme on a grander and more sinister scale now. He already knows how to use Macy's compassion to his advantage, because he has successfully tried that strategy on her before.
Even though analysis often involves interpreting things that the writer didn't intend, when I first read your palindrome list my immediate thought was, "This HAS to be intentional." It's just too perfect and fits too well to not have been deliberately planned out. It felt like you had really discovered something, not just interpreted something.
@@kristinazubic9669 SAME. And since he's incapable of sophistication in so many other respects, I have to assume this was largely the work of his writing team. Remember at this time, Bill Bell's acolytes and proteges are still around from the previous writing regime. So they can help craft good individual thematic episodes and add these kinds of writerly touches. I'm also more inclined to believe the other writers had more to do with the B storyline since both Bill and Brad often seemed uninterested in those.
@@NewYorkNick0607 I think that the palindrome may not have been intentional during its "first half" - that is, I'm not necessarily claiming that the writers wrote the dead cat scene _intending_ for it to be foreshadowing of a mur der a year later of a character who, as yet, did not even exist (it depends on how far ahead the writers were planning the storyline. However, the reverse is quite likely - the idea for Anthony's scheme during the Ivana storyline may well have come from the dead cat scene). But what I _think_ may have happened is that somewhere shortly before the start of the IRV storyline - that is, right before the backwards movement began, the writers (and you are right it may have been some other writer than Brad - maybe one of them cared more about the B storyline than 🔔 seems to have done) retraced their steps looking for material, and found all these previously planted seeds that they could use, which is why this current storyline relies so heavily on elements first introduced in past storylines. And, as we have seen, it's not just Anthony's palindrome but superimposed on it are also the Deveney Dixon storyline, the BeLieF th eft, the Cyrano storyline, the Othello references, and so on. Someone _clearly_ searched the show's history for inspiration (which in terms of narrative form is generally a good idea). The cat scene was actually the whole reason why I started looking for a pattern. Its element of foreshadowing really stood out to me as too perfect to be coincidental. And that's how I discovered that there were more plot points just like it.
"Destroying a family"? Brooke's family with her former stepson, his half brother, and half sister(I know the truth hasn't come out yet but still). Get real, Brooke. But then again in the old days Ridge was always more important to Brooke than her own kids.
Brooke and Taylor's confrontation would have made a lot more sense if Brooke accidentally found out Taylor found out Taylor was alive. The idea of Taylor following Omar's suggestion and going to reveal herself to Brooke first out of "respect" for her rival is just odd. In fact, everything about the confrontation is strange, from the dialogue to the emotional beats. I mean, since she's revealed herself to her, why wouldn't Taylor tell Brooke about her time in Morocco? Why is Brooke not more in a state of shock and disbelief? She is also way too calm for someone who just found out her rival is alive. The tears and screams stopped very quickly.
@@NewYorkNick0607or, they could have had Steph find out about Taylor and debate whether to tell Brooke b4 the stock was transferred, while Connor eventually tells Brooke (this could be Belief 2).. I'd have liked to see that battle.

There isn't anyone more insecure than Brooke. She knows she can't survive with Ridge without 2 things : 1. The children. 2. All her competition deceased.
This whole storyline with Taylor makes no sense. She is saying she was not held against her will but the story is complicated. She doesn’t answer whether there is another man as we all know she has remarried. She chooses to reveal herself to Brooke in a most frightening way (why not go through Connor)? Why not tell Ridge first? Wait till they find out she not only has been masquerading as the “volunteer” but also the lady at the seminar and the mysterious woman Omar was in love with at the palace. Wow…she has plenty of explaining to do! Shouldn’t she be dealing with Omar? What about the orphan children she loves and who look upon her as a mother? She has to deal with all of this.
Taylor deciding to reveal herself to Brooke before Ridge is bizarre. What is going on in Taylor’s head? What is her plan in showing Brooke she is alive? Taylor refuses to explain herself…why she is revealing she is alive now? She just tells Brooke she wants her husband and life back.😳 What reaction did Taylor think she would get from Brooke…knowing that Brooke and Ridge are happy together…knowing the history between Brooke and Ridge (before Taylor insinuated herself into Ridge’s life as Counselor at that time)?🥹 Taylor is playing mind games now with Brooke. *Brooke Balances the Scene* I was wondering how they were going to balance this scene and make Taylor more sympathetic (after her ridiculous behavior these past few months) and the answer is: just let Brooke be Brooke. 😆 Even though she could've easily been portrayed as the victim here, Brooke squanders all of that by instantly going into battle mode, attacking and berating a woman who just came back from the dead. There's nothing wrong with that per se but it shows that Brooke is an awkward fit for the Good Girl archetype. Even though she and Taylor have switched roles and Brooke is now "the wife", she still can't assume the Good Girl posture of compassion and self-sacrifice. Furthermore Brooke's territoriality ("You don't have a home here anymore") makes her sound deeply insecure - even if Ridge doesn't want to be with Taylor, she still has a life and home in LA! But Brooke wants her as far away as possible because she's not confident that Ridge won't be susceptible to Taylor. And even though Brooke actually has the advantage this time because Ridge is indeed more committed to her now, she still reveals herself to be an unreliable narrator ("our children") since we know that Bridget will soon be revealed not to be Ridge's daughter and even at this point Eric Jr isn't his son. Brooke could've easily claimed the right of way in this storyline but she goes too far. Not just asserting that Ridge is her husband, but also declaring that Taylor has no home in LA. Not just defending the family she and Ridge have made together, but also calling the children his. Brooke helps to balance this scene by being just as wrong as she is right and by making herself less sympathetic.
Great points! And it says something about the flawed writing when the only way to "balance the scene" as you say is to make _both_ characters unsympathetic and unreliable narrators!
Brooke only likes competition when she thinks she can win. She seems to forget she's Ridge's wife by default. She has a lot of love to give, but her love can be suffocating.
There is a grain of validity to Brooke's position though as she echoes Gladys in asking all the uncomfortable questions that Taylor can't answer (did you fake your death? did they kidn ap you? was this your choice? is there another man?).

Wait... isn't Anthony staying at Connor's anymore? When did he move out? This is an enormous missed beat. Connor and Anthony have been roommates for a long time and they used ot be best friends, and now Connor will be representing Thorne in this case that also involves Anthony. The fact that Anthony and Connor never interact in this storyline is such a disappointment. At the very least, the show could have explained why Anthony suddenly can't live with Connor anymore, but instead chooses to sleep in the office (of course hoping Macy will offer him to stay at her place). I understand that for plot purposes the show needs Anthony and Macy isolated together (since this storyline has a "fairy tale" feel that makes it necessary to avoid peripheral characters/subplots and focus on the main archetypal conflict - Little Red Riding Hood against the Big Bad Wolf), but it would have been so easy to explain why Anthony staying with Connor wasn't an option - Anthony could have said something about not being able to stay with Connor while Connor spends his evenings preparing Thorne's defense in the Ivana case. But then the show brings in Dylan in a secondary plot function (as "detective") that could _easily_ have been filled by Connor (and it would have been more dramatically satisfying to have Connor be the one to discover that the true mur de rer is his former best friend).
No idea when Anthony has moved out, but I have wondered before if he had. We had James several times coming over to Connor's place (eg. starting when he had seen Connor and Sheila kissing at the office, later when Connor and James kinda have become the new bromance couple) and there was no Anthony to wonder what that was about, no Anthony to find out about their quest _Is Taylor alive?_ _Taylor was the woman with no money to pay for her coffee, Taylor is back in LA_ .
@@mara4450 I'm guessing we are to assume that Anthony staying with Connor was temporary and he has since found a new place of his own, but it would have been nice with just a word of explanation in dialogue to clarify this (and why he couldn't again stay with Connor now - which, like I said, would have been easy enough to explain as being too much of a "painful reminder" that Connor is working on defending the man who may have unalived Anthony's fiancée).
@@annieo6527 The show is never good on explaining things or details (eg. Ridge's surgery one episode set for the day after the wedding, then it was suddenly on the day of the wedding...). Connor wasn't there to watch that _best friend's_ embarrassment, when Anthony proposed in front of the camera and then learned that Macy was already engaged. Anthony didn't run to Connor to rant but instead he turned up at Ivana's place the morning after to complain about Macy and Thorne.

But neither one of them actually did - at least not at first - so neither of them is the Good Girl in this situation.
Yeah if you critique Taylor you're automatically labeled a "Brooke stan" and if you critique Brooke it's a problem too. The same of you give either of them a compliment. It's all quite silly because at the end of the day it's just a show.😂

*The dead cat gambit*
Remember that time way back when Anthony pretended to grieve for his dead cat in order to win Macy's sympathies (episode 1701)?
He's doing it again here. Ivana is now the dead cat. This seed was planted _over a year ago._
The palindrome continues, and we have now reached point 6 on my list (from episode 1956).
I’m surprised Bradley Bell did something that sophisticated.
Loved your comment it's all so true!!😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥

How dare Taylor tell Brooke what to do!!
She just tells Brooke she wants her husband and life back.😳
What reaction did Taylor think she would get from Brooke…knowing that Brooke and Ridge are happy together…knowing the history between Brooke and Ridge (before Taylor insinuated herself into Ridge’s life as Counselor at that time)?🥹

*Brooke Balances the Scene*
I was wondering how they were going to balance this scene and make Taylor more sympathetic (after her ridiculous behavior these past few months) and the answer is: just let Brooke be Brooke.
Br👀ke is a female version of Omar, just that she doesn't have his resources.
This is why she can never really be convincing as a heroine
There is a grain of validity to Brooke's position though as she echoes Gladys in asking all the uncomfortable questions that Taylor can't answer (did you fake your death? did they kidn ap you? was this your choice? is there another man?).
@@annieo6527 Yes Brooke is actually asking the right questions here. But she's being so combative that she's coming across as an uber b ___ h in this scene. 😄
Taylor should have told Stephanie first rather than Brooke. Why is she stupid enough to think that Brooke, of all people, would step aside and give Taylor her life back. But Stephanie would have helped her.
Stephanie might have reacted worse...wanting to know where Taylor was all this time
ofcourse Ridge is able to see Brooke is not there and Taylor has revealed herself that's why rhe vision is a little blurry but he is on the way to recovery seeing Taylor is all he needs to she is the light of his eyes and the more she shows herself the more he will be stronger untill he finally sees her
Wait... isn't Anthony staying at Connor's anymore?
ITA with you that it would have been nice if the writers would have made more use of the former Anthony-Connor bromance (but that just has been replaced by the James-Connor bromance).
Connor already has a past with Anthony (the prank with the swimming wear, being roommates for a while) and Connor could have been used much more as being a friend of them both.
Connor wasn't there to watch that _best friend's_ embarrassment, when Anthony proposed in front of the camera and then learned that Macy was already engaged. Anthony didn't run to Connor to rant but instead he turned up at Ivana's place the morning after to complain about Macy and Thorne.
