  • Finnish concert organist Kalevi Kiviniemi plays "Pâques (Easter), Op.5 No.4" by Sergei Rachmaninov. This video was put live for all viewers at midnight, 00:00 (in Finland), on Easter Sunday, 4th of April 2010.
Originally written for two pianos, Kiviniemi plays his own arrangement for organ. This was recorded at Matthäuskirche (St. Matthews Church) in Stuttgart, Germany in 2003, during the recording of Kiviniemi's 100th CD, "Bombarde", OrganERA vol. 9, FUGA-9207, www.fuga.fi.
This very modest looking organ is completely different from inside. Originally it was built by organ builder Weigle in 1896. It survived the Second World War, but in 1952 Weigle built a new organ based on the remains of old one, following the ideals of 1950s and 1960s organ building. In 1967 organ was expanded and at this point sound concept was designed by church's organist Ulrich Stierle. He wanted to introduce Romantic and French dimension to the instrument - concept was not considered sensible in the heyday of Neo-Calssical organ design!
Between 1975 and 1998 Diethelm Berner, organ builder in Stuttgart was responsible of the organ. Over the years, organ has been constantly added to. It has Bourdon 32 and deep-sounding Bombarde 32 -stops, carillon and zimbelstern and a hidden trompeteria. Small 27-stop organ has grown to a 72-stop great concert organ. Regular visitors to the church have included for example Pierre Cochereau, Jean Langlais, Petr Eben, Marie-Claire Alain, Hans Haselböck and Wolfgang Rübsam.
As in all videos here, audio is taken from original high definition multi channel recording, not from video camera's own microphone or from video camera's audio system. The better your computer's audio system is, the better the sound - of course within the limitations of UA-cam audio. Video, audio, editing and description by Mika Koivusalo.

So I'm not the only person who thought that this little piece might be worth transcribing for organ. I search in UA-cam and... yes, someone has done it? Is the transcription available for purchase?
