I think there is one reality Jo didn't make it back to the escape pod (or whatever it was called) when she tried to go back and retrieve her daughters stuff (necklace? I don't remember), and she's the one that pushed the button for both Jo and Paul on the other realities.
no alice did have a direct connection to the device, the whole idea being played with is the observer effect. It doesn't matter that alice is on the planet, she has "seen" the device and that is enough. ( my guess )
It makes sense that it has to do with the observer effect, but why weren't the other people who saw the device also affected? Henry's colleague at mission control was also watching the device from a monitor and she was not affected.
2:15 Has anyone noticed that Alice is wearing different clothes in the scene where she's talking to Jo from the ISS? The show is full of details. In this scene, we switch between realities.
Note Irina wasn’t in this episode. Her glasses change, which proves at least three realities.

Or are we to believe that Paul is the one that sets the entire plot with Bud in motion?

No the first of the third realities split off in the 1960s with Buds CAL,but the plot plot comes from Pauls CAL..so I suppose yes..

Yeah, the plot is narrow, but it's really detailed. I get people think the plot is not moving forward, or it's repetitive or such, but it's very detailed storytelling hence feels slow. In the abstract you get how electrons or whatnot can be in superposition etc, but to experience it as humans, as mom and daughter, it's mindfuckingly confusing to a human.
4 realities.
1. Astronaut makes a COW and the girl dies, but her friend lives..
2. Astronaut makes a COW and she lives but her friend dies.
3. Astronaut lives on a cruise ship having never made a COW.
4. Astronaut who lives in a crappy apartment.
4 realities, so far.
Why the Frida/Erica name switch? There are no other full name switches. Bud and Henry is just preferred name vs real name. However Frida and Erica, two totally different names.
The show has gone out of its way to suggest 2 realities, plus instances of superposition (liminal space). The ISS becomes a schrodingers cat box when Jo/Paul are there by themselves. They are both dead and alive because they are no longer entangled with anyone elses wavefunction collapsed universes.
Alice is also seeking to enter that state when she cuts herself off by going into a cupboard.
The most interesting part for me is where Bud and Henry are able to communicate across the different universe threads.
Also, who is Henry's 'brother' that the CAL experiment is trying to save. Henry/Bud has the answers we seek. I hope we get more of his story next episode.
The red reality is the one that Russian cosmonaut is dead. The floating orange woman. And .07 second delay is why she missed the iss in the other reality.
Yeah, you just proved the 3rd reality. Blue, Irina is alive. Red, she is dead and hits the station. Yellow, the Valya misses the station during to the time delay.

How did Alice get involved with the parallel universe thing? I can understand with Jo, Paul, Henry, it was stated that space causes this reality shift, but I don't see how would that happen to Alice, and no one else.
I have a loose theory that in future season(s) it will be shown that there is something going on with time paradoxes, so the kid that is Jo having is Alice, thats why she's involved in parallel universes. It's similar to why dead russian cosmonaut is still floating in the space after all these years. It can be seen in some parts of the show that there are miltiple mixed timelines, on some pictures you can see year 2020, on some that were happening supossedly in the same time you can see 2023 etc. Either they're just mistakes made by the creators of the show or they will expand it not only to show parallel universes by also time paradoxes.
The CAL does exist in Paul's new reality... They did the CAL 12 years before which is probably when Irena went to her new reality... But before that...they had another CAL which is when Henry and bud switched... 3 CALs ... 3 switches ... 3 universes
I thought irena and henry were in the same mission. Which is why they had 2 deaths, one of them being irena was dead. While the universe where there were no deaths, irena is alive. So there should only be 2 CALs we know so far.
I'm down with 3 (or more) realities, but as far as the Bud... I don't think we've been seeing bud in two different realities throughout the season so far. (Unless you're counting stuff like making him piss his pants)

If ghost astronaut did not hit the ISS in timeline where Paul is now, then why would they have to abondone the ISS.
I think timeline where ghost astonaut missed the ISS is subliminal reality and Paul, Jo and other three astronaut are still aboard ISS and this is where cruis ship bud is.
If you think this a good show. I was ready to see them all being committed. You seriously can't live like this no matter which reality you have landed in!!
I like this show. Slow moving and way too confusing for normies
