    Seem like the spotting was pretty good here... first, spotter got close enough; second, spotter is paying attention and made adjustments/moving, with slightly bent knees (ready to absorb shock). IMHO, the main objective in spotting is to make sure the climber's critical body parts ( especially the head and/or main torso) doesn't hit the ground. You may not always be able to project legs, feet, hands and other extremities, but preventing head trauma is likely crucial. Great job!

    I didn’t really look at the spotting, but(!) always make sure you’re fingers and thumbs are together (so no space between them) bc when someone falls you may break your fingers and that ain’t good for bouldering ahaha

    You should go to Tram if you haven't already been. It's pretty much the only bearable spot to go bouldering during the summer here in SoCal. Still warm, but definitely cooler than Stoney at the moment. Lot more scenic than Stoney as well.

    Cool. No pun intended. Start at 6 am? If you get to another Stoney vlog, try Hog Tied that is the next boulder over just in front of the tree. That’s where I ripped the sidepull off and took massive fall. Sorry to make it more difficult, but give it a whirl. Trying to make it out that way soo to try again now that I moved back home to So Cal. 🤘

    • @bulgogimowgli3472
      @bulgogimowgli3472 5 років тому

      lol would not recommend, I think the reason why they call it Hog Tied is that it lures you to the top with good holds then traps you with a questionable committing top, but if you want to test your courage...

    Awesome video as usual :) your are SO brave to climb a boulder that high. Kudos girl, you rock!
    I never had to spot anyone yet but I had a climbing therapy workshop last weekend and the trainer told us to never spot with totally straight arms but to keep them slightly bend. Otherwise the same thing will happen as if you fall with your arms spread out. Might get injured pretty badly because the impact is too high.
    Love from Germany, Jen

    Hey Jenn, I've actually been climbing for some years now, but never outdoors! What would you say are some of the main differences? Is it a different vibe with the people? Which do you prefer(in/outside)?

    • @JenniferLangen
      @JenniferLangen 5 років тому +1

      oooh i actually made an entire video about the differences between indoor and outdoor climbing! they're so different. i get way more frustrated outdoors, but i love being in nature and hanging out with friends outside :-) but i've climbed indoors way more and feel a lot more comfortable climbing inside.

    Spotting tip: Look at the upper back/hips depending on position when spotting, its the easiest to notice when someone falls/what direction. Also I'd cup one hand downward, cupping upwards like you do, its easier for the palms to slide off. Also keep your hands a bit more bent, so its easier to adjust to the movement if someone falls. We call that straight hand spotting "blessing a climb" because its almost as useless as praying :D

    • @JenniferLangen
      @JenniferLangen 5 років тому

      HAHA my friend actually runs an instagram where they photoshop the climbers out of the picture so that the spotters look like they're worshipping the rock :D what a good tip!! i had heard that you're supposed to cup your hands (spoons, not forks?) but hadn't considered cupping one of my hands downward. thanks so much for the tip!

    • @kittypewpew
      @kittypewpew 5 років тому

      @@JenniferLangen Spoon is better for grabbing and also safer for you. A friend spotted with "forked" fingers, and he actually dislocated a finger when the climber fell on it. I'm a nurse so I promptly popped it back in place :p
