The 2000s were a great decade! I remember my brother and I singing this to my momma in the hospital a month before she died, she laughed for a long time! We were just two poor mountain boys trying to help our momma feel better

This song is a hyper realistic description of the modern age of social media. I've met people in person who can't exist without their digital persona. I dont think even Brad himself realized how genius this song was when he wrote it..
Thought of this song today after a comment I heard today that was related to a line in the song. Had largely forgotten this one and how painfully it applies to today
there are several songs that fit perfectly to society that he has made. Celebrity and kung pow buckaroo holiday are two that are so funny because it is so easy to see them in todays world. Alcohol is a good one and describes Alcohol perfectly
I think genius is a bit of a stretch. When the song was written online dating and social media was in its relative infancy but it was still very much a part of the cultural zeitgeist. People had been misrepresenting themselves online for about 5 years by the time the song was written. It was nothing more than a commentary/satire of common cultural observation, not a prophecy.
I've always loved this song :) And a side note: If your high school's marching band was considered good enough to march in the Rose Parade, it doesn't matter how geeky it makes them look, because a lot (granted, not all) of marching bands that are selected for the Rose Parade are badass at what they do. May 26, 2007: Actor Jason Alexander directs the music video for Brad Paisley's "Online". June 28, 2007: Brad Paisley's "Online" music video premieres on CMT, with Jason Alexander of Seinfeld fame playing the geek, William Shatner and Estelle Harris play the geek's parents; Estelle Harris previously played Estelle Costanza on the sitcom Seinfeld (NBC, 1989-1998), Patrick Warburton plays the car salesman, Shane West plays the photographer, and Maureen McCormick of The Brady Bunch fame playing the geek's next door neighbor; A portion of Paisley's previous single "Ticks" was played at the beginning of the video, and the geek appears as a marching band leader; During the video, Taylor Swift and Kellie Pickler appear as Paisley's backup singers, and Paisley performs with the matrix digital rain behind the band. During the last chorus, the geek comes on stage lip-syncing Paisley's vocals. July 2, 2007: Arista Records releases Brad Paisley's "Online" to radio, it was the second single from the album 5th Gear. October 13, 2007: Brad Paisley's "Online" reaches #1 on the Billboard country charts. After Jason Alexander quits his job delivering pizza, he becomes a celebrity and gets angry at baristas for messing up his latte and his Dad becomes a judge on a singing show.
Saw Brad Paisley at the local county fair when he was still kind of “up and coming”, he seemed like a really genuine guy. I don’t know how I didn’t know this video existed until now!
Love this video.. makes me laugh every time I watch it. Wonder how many can relate to the “online stats” “I grow another inch and I lose a bunch of weight every time I log in” Genius songwriting.

I have watched this video a few times before and I just made a connection. When she tells William Shatner he can't sing I think it is a reference to his real life attempt at singing.
In fairness to Shatner he is part of the joke too................presumably getting away with murder (allegedly) means you don't take life, or yourself, too seriously anymore!!
William Shatner has actually released nine albums, the latest was 2018's "Shatner Claus". He's performed all over the world since 1968. His musical genre is "speak-singing" rock & spoken word. He has a fairly large cult-like following with his music fans.
Brad Paisley is extremely cool just the way he is. Great guitar player, great songwriter, great sense of humor, and he sings real purty. 😁 my absolute favorite country performer. Always seems to be having a lot of fun, and enjoying what he does. Brad, you’re crushing it. 😎🎸🎼👍🏽👍🏽
Ironically, Jason Alexander is one of the coolest people out there. He's so cool that he was able to survive a slasher villain that put Jason Voorhees to shame, all without having to do anything but be his cool self.
Mr. Paisley thank you so much for this amazing music video. It is hands-down my favorite music video of all time. I remember being in my teen years in 2000's going on dating sites Myspace and all that fun stuff. In 2005 Facebook took over and it was insane. Now at almost 31 I'm completely off social media and dating apps because the last time I went on there I was catfished. Watching this video reminds me of my catfish. The profile picture used in his plenty of fish profile ended up being a male model and the guy was 300 lb. I told him I didn't want anything to do with him because I don't date Liars but of course all he thought was I didn't want to be with him because he was fat. I feel like a teenager watching this music video and I love it LOL.
I am with you, I fell for the ultimate catfish, it cost me my savings, my health, my dignity, and my self respect. I do however have left my have my morals, ethics, family and friends. I have not been on dating apps since, and I have been clean of social media long before that with the exception of UA-cam and couldn’t be happier. This music video was thought provoking and deep. 5:30 He was marching in a band with that nerdy girl. Those two had a common interest. It is implied that she is quirky and socially inept like him. She accepts him for who he is. In her arms, he does not need to prove he is cool.
This is one of the last good country music artists that get good radio airplay. There is still great music out there, I just wish the words mainstream weren't so much of a turn off nowadays. You can always count on youtube however to hear amazing music and talent you won't hear anywhere else! I dedicated my channel to that very music.
Let's see: Estelle Harris; William Shatner; Patrick Warburton; Maureen McCormack; Johnny Knoxville; Kellie Pickler; Taylor Swift;....did I forget anyone?
Online came out at a time when there was just a LOT going on in the world. We weren't far out from 9/11, we were in the middle of the Iraq War, and everything that you heard on the radio was (really good) memorializing and pro-troops music, which was great. It really was. That era kicked out some of the very best music of the early millennium, but what we seriously needed was comic relief, and Brad Paisley knew that. We needed a laugh in a bad way and he was right there with them, one right after the other with Online, Celebrity, I Wanna Check you for Ticks, and more. Things that were just fun and funny, lighthearted and what my grandparents always called "feel good" music. Thanks you, Brad. Your songs picked me up a LOT while my spouse was overseas and you gave me a good laugh that I always come back to when I'm having a bad day. It never fails to make me smile. Keep being you, buddy. We need more Brad Paisleys in the world.
Wow! Brad Paisley sings it and plays the fantasy man, Jason Alexander plays the dweeb, Maureen McCormick plays the girl-next-door, and Kelly Pickler and Taylor Swift hop around on stage. To be only 5 minutes, 52 seconds long, this has a lot celebrities in it.
It turns girls on that im mysterious.. I tell them I don't want nothing serious cuz even on a slow day I can have a three way chat with two women at one time.. lmao!!!! That's hilarious. I love this guy.
I dont really care for country music these days, but brad was my first concert and it was during this album tour. went with my dad and ill never forget it.
That bit with Will Shatner was low-key brutal. "I can't sing...?" grabs his heart.
It's hilarious 😂
Estelle screeching, "Yer BAD! Yes so BAD!"
The 2000s were a great decade! I remember my brother and I singing this to my momma in the hospital a month before she died, she laughed for a long time! We were just two poor mountain boys trying to help our momma feel better
That's awesome. Thanks for sharing! Your mom was lucky to have you there to sing for her like that and give her some much-deserved joy!

A truly iconic music video that captures cultural icons from Seinfeld, Star Trek, Brady Bunch, and even Taylor Swift.
So what's William Shatner? Copp3d liver?
@@ianlovett8301 They mentioned Star Trek.
And The Matrix
@ianlovett8301 William Shatner can't sing well, he was on the masked singer as a knight
And Kellie Pickler, too.
I've always loved this song :)
And a side note:
