    This is a very succinct presentation on the QU!
    Amazing!
    Quick question about the outputs.
    I'm running a QU32, and for the life of me I can't figure out the outputs assignment.
    For example I understand that output 1-2 is the LR on the mixer.
    What output pairs correspond to the outputs on the mixer? Like which output corresponds to Mix 9-10?
    Or am I looking at it wrong?
    Thanks a bunch!

    • @AllenandHeathUK
      @AllenandHeathUK  2 роки тому

      Hello Sam,
      The physical output sockets of the mixer are fixed and you can find to which mix are assigned by following the order.
      Outputs sockets 1 and 2 are Matrix 1.
      L&R are output sockets 11 and 12.
      Mix 1, 2, 3 and 4 are mono and mix 5, 6 and 7 are stereo so they will require 2 output sockets each.
      These are all labelled at the back of the mixer.

      Hi Josep,
      Unfortunately, it is not possible to use the channel strip controls for DAW control, as these are still controlling the select audio channel. The MIDI fader strip selection is independent to the mixer channel selection.
      Thanks! Alex

    Hi, THX for the good webinar! I still have 3 questions about the q-16 in DAW-environment:
    1.) Does MIDI over TCP-IP provide any advantages compared to USB? Maybe regarding speed or precision?
    2.) Is there a way to make the faders of the mixer also control Aux-Send-levels in my Pro Tools Session (i.e. Reverb-Sends)?
    3.) At my work (theatre) we have tried to send CC-commands from a DAW to control the Live-Fader-movements (not custom layer), but I assume that's not supposed to work with this console? Is it possible that this function could be implemented in a firmware-upgrade?
    Kindest regards,
    Markus

    • @AllenandHeathUK
      @AllenandHeathUK  7 років тому +1

      Hi Markus,
      There are other variables that can affect speed or precision, so my advice on which to use would be whichever is most convenient! Of course for longer cable runs, you would need to use CAT5e.
      The other two questions relate to the complete MIDI Protocol for the Qu series (www.allen-heath.com/media/Qu_MIDI_Protocol_V1.9.pdf). The DAW Control Driver translates these 'RAW' messages to controller messages, but you can use them directly too.
      If you need further info on this, just submit a ticket at support.allen-heath.com.
      Cheers! Keith.

    Great tutorial, clear as pure water. One point that I have noticed using the QU16 for the studio is that the levels are quite low, I have to turn the gain full to get a decent recording level on Pro Tools, is this ok or I am missing something? Regards.

    • @AllenandHeathUK
      @AllenandHeathUK  4 роки тому

      Hi 100dB - Glad you found it helpful! What you are seeing with level here is the difference between dBu and dBFS (more info here - support.allen-heath.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/1121). The USB streaming is directly from the core, so there is a large headroom there that avoids any clipping, it's also worth noting you are still getting all the available information (by boosting this level pre-stream you would get a louder signal in the DAW but no extra data). It's easy to normalise signals in post, and you could also trim the direct output up by +10dB in the routing (but again, you wouldn't be getting extra information, just a bigger waveform!). Thanks, Keith.

    • @AllenandHeathUK
      @AllenandHeathUK  3 роки тому

      Hi Randal,
      In Logic, you can view the click track in the mixer view by showing all tracks. You can then send this channel to a specific USB return for the Qu and the click can have its own channel on the mixer. For example, if you assigned the click in Logic to USB output 3, this will place the click on CH3 on the Qu.

    Just bought a Qu-32 and we are having troubles integrating it with our DAW Propellerhead Reason 9. The Mackie protocol goes fine until 16 chanels ( 2 groups ), but when we try to implement the 3rd and 4th group, the banks become linked together. The faders and strip buttons from the 3rd and 4th group also trigger the corresponding ones int the 1st and 2nd. Is there anything we a missing?

    • @AllenandHeathUK

      Hi Evan,
      The Qu-SB can indeed be used for both DAW Control and USB audio streaming, exactly in the same way as our Qu-32 console as it uses the Qu-32 core. This means, with the addition of a remote stagebox, you can stream up to 32 input channels to your DAW via the USB B interface.

    I am using Mix 1 for my in ear monitoring system that is capable of stereo output. Can the QU send stereo mix to my in ear and can I Pan my instrument output to my in ear monitor using one (1) XLR? Thanks

    • @AllenandHeathUK
      @AllenandHeathUK  4 роки тому

      Hi Gari,
      It is not possible to send a stereo signal out of the Mix 1 socket on Qu. However, if your IEM system supports AES input, you could use the AES output assigned to a stereo mix bus. Alternatively, you could use a Stereo Mix output which would use two XLR cables for left and right. This will then allow panning independently to the LR mix.
      Thanks! Alex

      Hi JDPRO, Number of channels available on ASIO is different for the different models. So; Qu-16 is 24x22, Qu-24 is 32x30 and Qu-32/Qu-Pac/Qu-SB are all 32x32 (they all use the same Qu-32 core!) Cheers, Keith.

    This video would be great if not for the person talking smacking their lips or clearing the food from their teeth every couple seconds.
    At 1:00 he only gets out 2 words, um and so, in between 2 smacks. 😳😳😳
    I just ordered the QU-32 and really looked forward to this video, but had to shut it off after less than 2 minutes as the sound drove me nuts. This is a video about "sound" after all.
    There must be a more professional speaker Allen & Heath has on staff that can do these videos.

      Hi Kevin,
      maybe your headphones/monitors are quite sharp in the high frequencies.. ?
      Even if not, here a little tip: just use a system-EQ next time! ;)

    Hey I use a QU-16 for my home recording studio. I really like the intergration of being able to use it as a control surface for pro tools as well as for tracking of vocals and the on board eq, compression, But I have some external hardware compressors that I like to add to my signal chain but I have attempted to do this and I have not been able to do so yet. Please if you could help me understand how to achieve this?

      Hi Base Note,
      Sure! You can use one of your mix outputs to send a USB return from Pro Tools to a compressor, then return the compressed signal either on a mono line input, or one of the stereo inputs. Finally, this can then be routed back into Pro Tools via the USB stream.
      Hopefully this helps, but if you'd like a more detailed walk through, please email support@allen-heath.com and I'll list the steps for you.
      Cheers, Keith.
