I actually had the same exact experience with the elf halo glow. I put it in my cart, was looking around the site for things to meet the free shipping limit, and that’s when it hit me. I don’t need or want those things- so I ended up shopping my stash and using auric glowlust + phytosurgence blush/highlighter and now that deep craving has subsided again. You and HLP have really helped me tame my shopping beast so that we may coexist haha. Thanks for sharing 🥂😘

27:20 it is so true, I can’t remember where this quote came from or who it originated from: “we’re not rich enough to buy cheap things”. I’ve been really looking at my past makeup purchases and found I’ve spent more on drug store stuff out of curiosity or trying to find cheaper dupes but in the end the ones I end up reaching for the most are my investment pieces. Idk if it’s because I cherish them more or what. These are some of my favorite videos from you! It’s a gentle reminder to look at what we have first.

I like to believe it’s a mix of things. You want something that looks and feels pretty, something that’s practical too, so when those things can be harmonious, that extra cost translates to emotion- you pay to ultimately feel happier than if you were to save a few dollars. I think there’s a magic in that, something primal, traditional, that not everyone feels and so is what makes the beauty community special.. at least to me. 🥰

Falling in love with the idea of what a product is… what an eloquent and insightful way of expressing that feeling ❤️

    Feel
Exactly the same way about the dichotomy of owning and loving luxury beauty with the need to try more affordable products (that are definitely more accessible) but not authentic to me. I have just started my
Beauty youtube channel journey and feel this way. Couldn’t help stopping by and sharing here because what you said resonated with me so, so much.
Another incredible video Bekah! Love your work!

I loved this video! And I completely agree that fewer products, and ones that I truly want no matter the price, are what I want in my life. I would love to see a video where you use your favorite product in every category.

I purchased the ELF because I wanted the glow of that product even though I don’t see myself using it that often. The lower price point makes sense for me but I’m not a fan of drugstore in general when Indie brands are out there killing it with beautiful products. I don’t think you need to do dupe videos because that’s what’s done these days. I find your channel a more cerebral, thoughtful, and well rounded option from what I’ve been able to find compared to other channels and it’s a breath of fresh air. Go with your gut. You’re featuring great Indie brands as well as more traditional high end beauty so the price point is there for everyone without sacrificing quality.

Bekah- I love this series so much. I hope you will continue it! I find so often that I feel the need to purchase hyped new releases, even when I don't feel the pull to add them to my collection. I have to separate the hype from what the product could add to my life. A couple of things to share: I recently purchased one of the new Rose Inc blush shades (Camellia- the mauve shade). It is lovely, but definitely on the lighter side than the photos/swatches indicate. I also have a lighter skin tone than you, so I thought I'd also mention that one of the Sephora reviewers also mentioned how much lighter Delphine and Daylily were in real life, fwiw. Also- the Eyes to Mesmerize in Exaggereyes is a cream version of her Pop shade from the Exaggereyes palette. It's stated in the fine print on her website. I hope that is helpful! Again, thank you for your excellent content :)

You are so good at describing the experience of using each product! When you described the rose inc cream blush, it sounded just like the tower 28. And then you said that it’s like the tower 28! Just complementing your expertise.

I totally almost bought the new Dior quints for two reasons: their Dior and they were only $44 at the time I went to the website. Put them in my cart and then realized I never wear these shades. Like ever. So I removed them from cart and moved on 🙃. If only adding and removing things from my online shopping carts burned calories I wouldn’t need to also workout 🏋🏽‍♀️!

I really appreciate what you said about the elf highlighter. I keep catching myself wanting to buy it because it looks pretty on others, but if I get really honest with myself I know it won’t be something I reach for in my collection. My desire to buy has nothing to do with its use but has everything to do with simply wanting to swatch out of curiosity. Anyyyyyways, great video!

I was listening into a radio show where the host will call and prank people. A woman called who thought her bf was cheating because she found makeup in his pocket. After a whole groan worthy call etc the bf figures out what’s going on a confronts his girlfriend, like why would you think I was cheating? And when she mentioned the makeup he got so quiet and then, embarrassed admitted it was his. For concealing blemishes etc. then the gf declares, well now I’m mad your using cheap makeup! I’m going to take you makeup shopping because “ we aren’t drugstore people!”
    This had me dying.

I feel the same way! I’m so tempted because it’s my favorite packaging design Gucci has done yet, but I know I have other similar colors already . I’m trying to resist 🙊

@@meepmoopmeep1 i feel like it’s a colour that looks very mundane but when you apply it, it turns out to be really nuanced and not what you expected, but in a good way. it has a slight rosiness to it and i dont have anything like this in my collection. not trying to promote consumerism but it’s unique just saying 😭

Are you sure the Summer Fridays skin tint has SPF? I don't recall having seen that claimed anywhere 🤔

You’re right! I think I just got so excited that I assumed it had SPF because it’s in similar packaging to their SPF 🥲 still excited and will review it!

@@Bekah_Sun A very reasonable assumption. Would actually kinda wish they had done a full range of SPF tints and just had the one they actually released as, like, a non-tint option along with the tints. Looking forward to the review, though! 💕

Don’t buy the e.l.f. highlighter, there are plenty of reviews out there already. I really enjoy how you introduce your viewers to indie brands, I think that’s more valuable to me as a viewer to see things that aren’t so mainstream. And luxury beauty, always love that content! 😁😁

No, please get Marxist about it! Would actually love to hear a beauty creator speak on the politics of beauty more explicitly. (But I’m not assuming you’re a Marxist, you do you).

  • @dismae7784
    @dismae7784 2 роки тому +4

Literally please get Marxist with it lol, The beauty industry is run by capitalism, first and foremost :/ and I appreciate the lens of historic materialism and object fetishization in regards to this sub-genre of consumerism. Makeup is beautiful art and it sometimes feels radical to remind myself that it can be separated from rampant buying lol anywayyyyy just my thoughts!
