Thankyou, he seems good just don`t know why he meanders all over heard this in the last lecture watched, Grant saves the union, same thing went down lol
I read the biography. It is great. One of the best. This talk is great. The insights about the study of history were great. He does give Grant short shrift in this talk. He oversimplifies and feeds into the “butcher” myth as well as the “war of attrition” myth. Lee and Grant were very similar in tactics, focusing on winning battles and campaigns rather than avoiding the loss of men (Lee’s ratios were worse than Grant). Grant was also a brilliant tactician, as evidenced by the Vicksburg campaign, which was unequaled in genius by anyone. But overall, a great perspective and delightful talk.
Unequaled? How about Napoleon, Ceasar, Hannibal, Alexander the Great? I heard they conquered a lot of land and did dozens of battle. May be they do not count as their campaigns were bigger, longer and did not happen in the US.
Actually, many mathematical theorems have alternative proofs. Calculus students learn quickly that there are many ways to calculate the area of a circle or the volume of a sphere, all agreeing on the result. Now, something as complicated as Fermat's last theorem may be unlikely to see a second proof, but it is not inconceivable and would be celebrated, even if not as much as the first.
This guy gives the best lectures I’ve ever seen. I have severe ADHD and have trouble focusing but I was hooked the entire time.
Starts talking about Grant at 51:20

24th minute is relevant, although he took a while to demonstrate the point. 39th minute onward, more or less.
Grant had great math skills and sprired to teach mathematics at est Point. This is what made him a great quartermaster.
Ferdinand Ward of Ponzi fame sure thought so! Haha😮!
I thought his lecture was on grant not his university classes. Not interesting for most part.
Thanks professor! I enjoyed this lecture and look forward to the book!

Cold Harbor? Reconstruction? Ward Ponzi scheme? Deadwood?😮
Don't waste your time watching this. It's not about Grant at all, it's all about Brand's career.
Worth watching. a lot of extra info
didn’t get down to the brass tacks until almost 40 minutes in....
Does he ever talk abt Grant ?

I was going to watch the video, after.seeng so many negative comments, I changed my mind.
I think that there was an image of himself on the auto-read screen. I've had to turn this narcissic off before?
abraham linconl and grant saved the world
They saved the Union, anyway.
Loves to touch his hair. Pretty boy.

absolutely 👍
we want demecroys
absolutely horrible lecture on Grant. He never gets to talking about Grant. It's all about himself.
Coupled with the poor camera operation, I would have to agree :(
every should have underst
As usual Brands finds it impossible to tear himself away from his favorite topic--himself--and address the ostensible subject of his talk.
Minute 23 and still hardly anything about Grant.
Looking forward to it even though I've already read a Grant biography.
This guy goes on and on about himself but seems never to get to the subject matter. I turned him off.
I live in Texas. This HW guy is as leftist as one can get. No wonder these Texas students hate the Constitution.
@@fastsetinthewest which part do they hate?
@@ClannCholmain Good question? A better question would be: Do high school students read the Constitution?
@@fastsetinthewest or can one hate something they haven’t even read?
Stop the never ending meandering on stage , I'm getting sea sick.
So right. These guys should get 15 seconds followed by a hard kick in the balls. They think they’re witty. They’re half right.
we lost it our leaders wanted power
Over 30 minutes into this and still has not gotten to the subject.
Jesus, this guy is so full of himself. This lecture is all about himself.
Biggest fool I have ever watch. Did not keep my attention.
He is insufferable, will look elsewhere for lectures about Grant.
Chernow's book is excellent. I have it and am now reading Brands' Jackson. I like them both.
