Excellent, clear exposition. I couldn't have done it without your help. Like others, both of my adhesive strips broke off - they were so sticky that there was no way they were ever going to come out easily. I used an old credit card cut in half as a thin spatula.
Thank you! Great detailed explanation. Followed it an everything* went great. *Everything except the adhesive strips under that battery. One went ping into a little ball of glue, the other broke leaving most under the battery with nothing left to grab, so very careful work with spatula was needed. Be really careful and gentle with these!
Hello. Thank you for the tutorial. I am going to replace a battery. I have a professional fan. What temperature should I set to soften the glue and not damage the phone?
Hello, thanks for your feedback! Yes, as described at the beginning of the video, this repair is difficult and only required for advanced people. But nice to hear that you succeed and that we could help you with our video. Best regards from the REPEDIA team
@@repedia-servicelabor8822 Thank you from Russian Federation. I changed my battery to the new one. And it shows about 1900-2000mAh. It discharges very fast as on original battery (almost the same result). And phone is working slowly. What can be faulty that phone is overheated, and makes slowly when working with navigation system, for example (GPS+LTE)?
@@alexanderv.753 Hello, it is difficult to identify the reason for this problem without seeing the device and knowing all circumstances. It could have several reasons when the device is overheated. The only tip we can give from far is to make sure that you have installed the latest software update. If this isn't the reason, we would suggest consulting a repair shop or any other professional. Good luck and best regards from the REPEDIA team
@@repedia-servicelabor8822 My z5 Xperia compact keeps switching off when battery is less than 70% but when I keep it plugged in to the charger it stays on, do u think I need a new battery and if so where do u recommend I buy the battery from?
@@absbse yes very likely, mine even turned off with power cable in!!. Also you may see the back cover lifted due to battery swollen. Repedia sell them, if out of stock look for one with the same rear label / code number LIS1594ERPC 10.3Wh etc as original!!
Thank you! I was able to replace my phone's battery and everything's working fine by following your video tutorial. I just realized that Sony made a stupid move in using double sided tape to stick the battery to the motherboard which made removing it very difficult if not impossible. They should've just use a locking mechanish to the battery and you can replace it easily.
Hello! We are glad to hear that our tutorial was helpful to you. Yes, you are right - a locking mechanism for the battery would make it much easier but most of the manufacturers (not only Sony) fix the battery with adhesive. They are not very interested in making it easy to repair the devices. Best regards from the REPEDIA team!
@@repedia-servicelabor8822 Oh and by the way, my phone's about 2 years old and you can no longer remove the tape because it's already toasted (you know Z5's overheating problem). So I had to use a cutter to cut loose the connection between the battery and motherboard. I made sure I don't damage the motherboard so I let the battery suffer from cuts. Maybe this will be helpful to others.
European Union will discuss on news laws to make battery replacement, an easier experience. They already decided on using usb type c only for all devices.
Thank you for the video very easy and plain steps to follow , I am now waiting for a new battery to arrive and I will follow your instructions on how to reassemble, my battery didn't have those two tabs on it it had double sided tape on it which separated quite easy, thanks a lot
Thank you very much for the video. I have successfully changed the battery in my Z5, it took ages but I am sure without this video I would not have managed it at all. But if you are patient you can do it successfully!
Thank you so much for this video, I would order parts but you've sold out... Watch out at 4:15!! i damaged a mini inductor/resistor with my spudger getting in there; maybe i was a little rough but paid the price. It added 4 hours to my battery replacement trying to resolder it with my iron that's a size of a bus!! I ended up fitting a wire link in replacement and speaker now works -phew!!.
Thanks a lot, your video was extremely useful. The only problem I had was disconnecting the NFC, which it turns out is unecessary provided you detach it from the battery before removine the frame. Take care pulling the adhesive strips out , one of mine broke off, so a thin blade was needed to complete the removal of the battery
it may depend on how well the battery adheres to it. Mine got very hot & swelled up lifting the rear cover and maybe unstuck its self from the main board so i didn't have to remove the mb (or the cameras for that matter) Also my adhesive wasn't the original -long story.
You are welcome. We are glad to hear that our tutorial reached you so far away. I hope you succeeded with the repair. Best regards from the REPEDIA team

Why release the mainboard from the phone completely before removing the battery? I look like the battery can be removed after removing the middle cover and without all those steps for removing the mainboard. .

I changed my battery with the help of this tutorial but unfortunately I accidentally damaged the flash light when reassembling, it got stuck underneath the motherboard, I didn't see it and I tightened the plastic strip over it and the light/flash got caught and snapped off but luckily my phone is still working with a new battery, and please remember to buy a genuine original sony battery, so many cheap rubbish ones on eBay
i changed the battery exactly as shown but now the phone isn't powering on. it starts for about 1 second when i charge it but thats it. the only difference is that i used a different adhesive - does this affect anything?

after seeing this, i decide to leave my z5c as it is (battery last half day. full day if i only use it t check mails, message, and youtube/instagram once or twice). better to buy new phone and leave this phone as secondary/audio player considering its current worth and risk. dang sony for making it this hard for just replacing battery 😒 this is like almost complete diassembling of a phone

Did it as well. Not to difficult with basic tools and hair dryer. Separating the battery was the hardest. Cut it with the short blade of a Victorinox.
This was invaluable. Thank you very much.
