I've had great difficulty breathing for 5 days. The hospital told me I didn't meet criteria, not having been out of the country... and so on, so I couldn't get tested. The gave me some breathing medicine but that didn't last long. I've found that if I have a cup of hot coffee or tea, breathing the steam over the finished cup is helpful. Also, stay hydrated with water too keep phlem more fluid and easier to cough up and get it out. Hope this may be helpful for someone.
joerobi If you can, get someone to get you some guaifenesin; it’s an expectorant that will help move the phlegm out of your body. Works well for sinus infections (along with hydration) and often one can get rid of an infection without needing antibiotics. Robitussin has guaifenesin in it and it can be bought in pill form at the drug store. P.S., from what I understand, corona doesn’t cause phlegm at the beginning.

I'm not an epidemiologist, so please check this info for yourself: To clarify a few of Doctor Barry's references (for those who don't already know), there have been three major coronavirus outbreaks in humans: Sars-CoV (Sars 1) in 2002; Mers-CoV in 2012; Sars-CoV-2 (Covid-19) now. CoV identifies it a a coronavirus outbreak. Sars stands for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. Mers: Middle East respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus, or EMC/2012, is a species of coronavirus which infects humans, bats, and camels. This being the second major outbreak of a Sars coronavirus, it is called Sars-CoV-2. 19 refers to 2019, the year this particular strain emerged in humans. Please check this info. I am not a doctor! I am only posting it since Dr. Barrymade used these descriptors, which are not as well known outside epidemiological circles. On a slightly different topic, I am thankful that Senator Sanders has been demonstrating sane leadership in this crisis, even if it is only streamed over the internet. Amy, brilliant interview with an extraordinary doctor. Thank you. This is the best overview I have seen anywhere. And in Part 2, some practical information that I've heard and valued hearing again from Dr. Barry. Why can't we listen to her everyday instead of Trump re: COVID-19 [which she called SARs-2 at times]? She's right we are remarkably unprepared in terms of testing, other vital equipment, and medical manpower.
That actually isn't something to be worried about. Medical waste gets incinerated which destroys the virus. Unless you are talking about non-healthcare personnel using gloves, masks gowns, etc. Be concerned about the non-medical waste like disposable food containers and utensils.

What statistics are available for those who have actually been exposed to the virus and did not contract the symptoms? 3. Where are the fatality comparisons to other flu-like viruses? 4. Where is the data that shows the number of tests versus the number of confirmed infections versus fatalities? 5. Why aren't Alternative health (Naturopathic, etc.) Doctors being interviewed? 6. What is the global environmental variations statistics with regards to contagion? (Are warmer regions versus colder regions less likely to be infected?)

I live in China in and everywhere we went outside our apartment building, security checks our temperatures before we could ever leave. If our temperature Is above 37C, we are not permitted to' leave our apartment building. Instead, they wouldl call local police and health authorities to assist with help and support. On the other hand, If we are able to surpass the temperature check, through our residential security, , and are able to go to the mall, ( for example) the mall has to enforce the same health check before we are allowed in. they check our temperature b4 we are able go into the mall, restaurants, our any public places, banks, etc... . For those who travel inward from Internationally into China, such as myself during the outbreak, are immediately registered with the government to help them keep track of our whereabouts...thus, once we arrive, we are immediately placed under quarintine and aren't able to go anywhere except the neighborhood store or are only allowed to go downstairs to pick up delivered food These are but a few of the measures that the Chinese government used to keep the virus from spreading.

The reason why it takes so long for anything in the Trump administration is because it takes longer to figure out and then legislate profitable schemes, stock trades, alliances with powerful election doners, etc. when compared to just doing what is best for the most over the longest period of time. - Expert epidemiologists estimate that about 70% to 80% of the population in the US will be infected (at least half are probably asymptomatic) - so say 75% = about 260 million people (out of a total population of 350 million) will be infected. - Around (conservatively) 14% of the infected will need hospitalization and a hospital bed for at least 2 weeks = 49 million potential hospital patients. Repeat: 49 MILLION POTENTIAL HOSPITAL PATIENTS. - Total number of hospital beds in the US = < 1 million beds (ALL hospitals) - At any one time, about 65% of these hospital beds are occupied with the seriously ill and injured. This leaves about 350,000 beds available for Covid-19 patients. - Around one quarter (25%) of the hospitalised patients need very high level medical care in an ICU bed for at least 3 weeks but could be up to 6 weeks = 12 million ICU patients. - Number of ICU beds in the US (ALL hospitals) = 95,000. Not to mention all the seriously injured and ill people who would have ordinarily wound up in hospital as one of those 650,000 patients who occupy hospital beds in normal times. Where will they go? What if the US was able to triple the number of ICU beds, say to 300 000? This number of ICU beds would be sufficient IF, and only if, the infection rate amongst the general population was kept to 2.5%. For each increase of 2.5% infection rate in the general population, another 300,000 ICU beds are required OR spread the cases out - flatten the curve - so that not all the infected who need a hospital and / or ICU bed, will need it at the same time. But even so, there will not enough ICU beds and ventilators. This will result in unnecessary deaths. Doctors will have to decide who can get ventilator treatment and who will not. The current global death rate of 4% is based on what has been reported from all countries to date including China and Iran. The numbers from both of these countries are absolutely unreliable (understated !) but are all that is available. The US has a 'relatively' old population and it is only slightly less vulnerable than Italy in this respect. Generally speaking, the diet and lifestyle of the American population is more unhealthy than that of the Italian population and the older people with chronic illnesses (heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, etc.) are facing VERY high risk of death if they become infected. Italy with its healthier population - albeit slightly older than the US - has a death rate of around 8% of known cases. I shudder to think what would happen in the US. Also keep in mind that, unless the US government comes to an agreement with the private healthcare industry, people needing hospital care and, more importantly, an ICU bed may also be triaged on their ability to pay their hospital bills - not just on whether or not they have a good chance of surviving Covid-19 - as is currently happening in Italy with its universal healthcare system. Covid-19 may be a death sentence for uninsured and underinsured people. STAY (TF) HOME !!!!!! Flatten the curve !!!!!
I'm over 60 with severe health problems so I'm amongst the most vulnerable but I live in the country and have to go outside to do horse care which is good for both my physical and mental well being. I prefer the companionship of horses to that of humans anyway so I don't get lonely except that I miss my adult sons terribly and wonder if I'll ever see them again. As a community we are organizing online and by phone in order to make sure others, especially the most vulnerable, have what they need as my sons are organizing in their own communities in the same way. For leadership I felt on Bernie Sanders and information from both the CDC and the World Health Organisation. Biden offered thoughts and prayers then said we can take care of and get the D party is treating him as our next leader. Trump is floundering after starting to take this seriously only after the market crashed. Our federal government is pretty much useless on both sides of the isle as are many state governments. As long as I don't get it this won't disrupt my life all that much but it's hard to say what it will do to the country going forward. If the best ideas are implemented in this moment of sudden changes we might undo the damage of the last 40 years and come out far better with a Green New Deal Deal. I hate to think of the alternative.

If you have to touch things when out, like credit card machines or store items and such, get a quart of water add 4 tsp of bleach to it. Take it and a cloth to wipe down everything you are needing to touch first. Not a fail safe but better than nothing. Of course hand sanitizer and soap & water If you can get it.
Saying people don't want government is nonsense. Some political operators and their useful idiots have successfully pushed the propaganda of individualism and small government for decades. People want the support of sensible institutions, both public and private, over which they have actual democratic influence. At the same time, people want autonomy, that is, local and individual say over local and individual matters. These are natural human needs and tendencies and they go together.

If you can, get someone to get you some guaifenesin; it’s an expectorant that will help move the phlegm out of your body. Works well for sinus infections (along with hydration) and often one can get rid of an infection without needing antibiotics. Robitussin has guaifenesin in it and it can be bought in pill form at the drug store.
P.S., from what I understand, corona doesn’t cause phlegm at the beginning.

If the dry cough doesn't subside go back to the hospital. My college roommate developed a dry cough last Wednesday. Went to the hospital. No test. Sent home. Woke up Thursday feeling worse. Returned to the hospital and died then and there. Don't try to second guess this one.

Physical distancing vs social distancing because we all still need to be social.
Good point
3:05 recent news coming out of Spain is that testing isn't being done soon enough, it isn't being rigorously enough; and therefore when people do end up being hospitalized, it is so much more difficult to try to cure them or even to save their lives 😐
Ha! It took a virus to bring about a serious criticism of capitalism.
What is the alternative to capitalism? Holding hands in the queue to the soup kitchen and sing Kumbaya? The poor will suffer the most because they lose their jobs. One of the largest retail businesses has already fired 2000 employees and this is only the beginning.
@@jerryhall5709 I would say workers co-ops would be better but technology will get rid of the need to work soon enough anyway. But either way, Capitalism isn't sustainable.

I'm not an epidemiologist, so please check this info for yourself:
To clarify a few of Doctor Barry's references (for those who don't already know), there have been three major coronavirus outbreaks in humans: Sars-CoV (Sars 1) in 2002; Mers-CoV in 2012; Sars-CoV-2 (Covid-19) now.
Most of the other 'leaders' in DC appear fookin outta their minds by comparison.
I hope we don't come out of the other end of this as a WalMart nation.
I realize that without
Amy Goodman/Democracy Now I would not be hearing Dr.Barry's valuable opinion!

Great job Amy and thank you Dr. Barry for a very informative interview.
Amy, brilliant interview with an extraordinary doctor. Thank you. This is the best overview I have seen anywhere. I hadn't heard that COVID-19 did not originate in bats, but in the seafood market [as far as is known now].
Amy doesn't have time to read UA-cam comments, friend. You're wasting your signalling.
@Catherine Kirkpatrick Thanks for the clarification. Wet Market? Sounds like a petri dish for viruses.
Good luck America 🍀🍀🍀❤️
You are going to need it!!
I hope someone is thinking about where all these possibly contaminated masks, gloves etc. are being thrown AWAY [where is that place AWAY?]
That actually isn't something to be worried about. Medical waste gets incinerated which destroys the virus. Unless you are talking about non-healthcare personnel using gloves, masks gowns, etc. Be concerned about the non-medical waste like disposable food containers and utensils.
No ones addressing this. Today I was thinking about all the trash sorter people
@@Truthandconsciousness No need. That job deals with trash far more deadly than COVID-19 contamination. The PPE used by trash sorters may be in short order and being reused beyond effectiveness.
The virus only survives a couple days on plastic... so, it shouldn't be a concern. Likewise, any covid-19 virus on products from China will not survive the journey to the US.

There's a plethora of unanswered questions that even my favorite leftwing media is not asking. For example:
1. What about the statistics on the Preconditions of those who were fatalities?

The reason why it takes so long for anything in the Trump administration is because it takes longer to figure out and then legislate profitable schemes, stock trades, alliances with powerful election doners, etc. when compared to just doing what is best for the most over the longest period of time.
Pretty simple when taken in context to all other rule making and legislation he has approved this far.
Yeah... those “the rich”, says a Stanford doctor. A one bedroom apartment in Stanford CA is well over a million dollars. Which “the rich” is the professor envious of ?
- Expert epidemiologists estimate that about 70% to 80% of the population in the US will be infected (at least half are probably asymptomatic) - so say 75% = about 260 million people (out of a total population of 350 million) will be infected.
- Around (conservatively) 14% of the infected will need hospitalization and a hospital bed for at least 2 weeks = 49 million potential hospital patients. Repeat: 49 MILLION POTENTIAL HOSPITAL PATIENTS.
- Total number of hospital beds in the US = < 1 million beds (ALL hospitals)
- At any one time, about 65% of these hospital beds are occupied with the seriously ill and injured.
