- Here's a quick video on how to mount a tow hitch on the Tesla Model 3. Did this video push you over to buy a Tesla/ Would be great if you use my referral code:
www.tesla.com/nl_NL/referral/...
Thank you. Without your video I would have struggled - and did struggle until searching for help on the internet!
Loved the comment “don’t get any ideas” then a long pause before continuing! 😂
Great tutorial, for any one else who gets stymied on first go, remove the plastic insert before inserting the hitch into place 😂😂😂
I struggled with this a little, I found when I inserted it did not fully lock, so I was not able to remove the key. However with a little extra help by pulling it out and moving it the lock position helped it move into full lock.
Thanks. Fitted mine today! I'd add it seems you need to turn the handle to make it click before inserting them up into the car. Then there's a clunk/click sound and the handle springs round. Then it's in solid.
Thanks for posting this tutorial. Helped me a lot 👍
Thnx, saved me some serious puzzling time to figure out
Haha, don’t get any ideas? Love that bit. It is interesting that you get Trailer Mode, I know these are made for Europe but we in North America can add a hitch so that is interesting. Thank you for the video.
Lol, we see how you drive and crash on wham Bam Tesla Cam 😃
Great Video. Thanks. Helped a lot!
Brilliant. Thank you !!!
for first installation; you need to remove a small 2nd cover which is covering the hole the hitch will be placed in to. Just info so people wonder why theirs wont fit.
I suggest Vlinder to go back to his video editting screen and add the existence of the cover. You dont see it immediately in these dark circumstances
Thanks for the very useful advise:-)
Finally a seat for grandmother.
Worked 🎉
Thanks, saved me 30' to figure it out myself!
Thanks bro
Thanx!
Do they make a plug in receiver module if you want to use a bike rack that you can plug in?
That's a great video and just what I was after. Thanks!
One quick question - does the red key remove when the towbar is in place so that it can't be removed/stolen?
Chipps Chippendale yes it does to prevent theft indeed
I'm amazed that its not available everywhere. I'm in Australia and just about to get my 21 model 3 and the owners manual says you cannot tow with a model 3. Also, there was no option to add a tow bar when ordering. Not good enough tesla!
Is that on all Tesla 3's? I have a 2021 i just took delivery on. do they have attachment for a bike rake.
every model 3 have this under the trunk? 2018 LR RWD?
North American cars don’t have this feature 😤
Is it the same for Model S?
how and where is the socket connected?
Is there a link for this hitch??
Thanks for posting this useful video, @Vlinder. Just a quick question: does your car registration paper say anything related to the towing hitch? Reason I'm asking is that I want to order and install the Stealth EcoHitch on my M3 and I'm wondering if I need to make any modifications to the car registration. Thanks.
Hi Dan, here in the Netherlands you don't need to register it when you add a towing hitch later, but not sure how it works in your country
@@mrtnmnstr Thanks for the reply. It's very likely that in Germany, anything that you install aftermarket needs some sort of TüV certification/approval. However, as I don't intend to tow anything but just use a bike rack, I was curious if there's any distinction on the car registration, for when the police might pull me over. Thanks again.
You can install your own tow hitch but it won't be able to carry a trailer as the car won't be rated for that load, only factory fitted tow hitches are legal for pulling trailer loads. It is the same across the EU.
But a bike rack won't be a problem.
@@steffanaarts-greven1352 Indeed. That's what I found out. Would be nice to find someone that does it in Germany...
the comments are people talking about being confused with the hitch, like I wish I had a Tesla to be confused about the hitch
duidelijker wordt het niet, super
Hi, very interesting! Have you already done a test with a trailer? Does the Model 3 pull the 910kg without problems or does it have temperature problems?
Rock N Rolla thanks! Actually I haven't as I don't own a trailer myself. Only used it for a bicycle rack so far (which went well)
Rock N Rolla update : just had my first ride, which went great! I also learned it automatically switches to trailer mode, when inserting the plug, which is kinda clever. Of course the battery drains faster when towing but that's no different compared to ICE cars
Nice video! It's possible to install on every model 3 ? Can you put the link of that part?
Toni Marques yep, but only in Europe so far and only from the factory (no after market option yet)
Vlinder thanks for your support.
Leo Man thanks!
@@korbenuber I confirm, it comes with the 19" wheels instead of 20" and you can't get the performance brakes. Also seems the rear suspension is different but I not sure. Seems like it would adjust itself when towing a heavy load
Nice.
Is this for USA spec Model 3's too, or just European spec ?
Hitch name, link and/or cost ?
It’s standard from Tesla , could select it when I ordered my Tesla
@@mrtnmnstr
thanks.
what country are you in?
This isn't available in the USA.
End.Corruption Netherlands !
Did it come with, or can you buy a receiver attachment so you can use a bike rack with it?
TerraByte not sure what you mean with a 'receiver attachment' but everything you see in the video is what it came with
Vlinder it's probably for American spec model 3's. The receiver is a square tube instead of a ball itself, so you need to buy a ball for the receiver in America.
Hi. The actual receiver that is under the plastic panel in the your car, the item that you insert this tow hitch in to - Where did that come from ? Where can I buy it ? I live in the United States.
amigajoe it came straight from the tesla factory like that
Wow ! I’m gonna go look under my car this morning. I wonder if it’s a European version thing.
I’ve seen many American videos of installing a tow hitch, and it’s a big, expensive ordeal.
amigajoe yeah I think it’s Europe only, at least it was introduced here first
@@amigajoe This is also pretty expensive. Like $1000.
Thoracius Appotite I actually got one installed at uHaul here in the United States. About $600 total
Thnx, still think that it can tow more then 950kg.... Just hanging my caravan of 1500 kg on it to prove it.
Matty good luck 😊
From the looks of things, there is not much spaces between the bumper, ball and where the hitch will sit.
Hey I'm confused, is it the original tesla tow hitch? I thought it wasn't removable because it says on the website that can't be installed after buying the car
Cutedu hey! It is removable as you can see :) you just have to order it from the beginning as the whole system cannot be installed afterwards
@@mrtnmnstr thanks!
They didnt install it for you? Do you have a part number for this?
Nathan C. I don't.. Just ordered it on website she ordering the Tesla itself
is this worth £1000?
What about the keys please?
Where do you get the tow hitch from?
Need to order with the car. Cannot install after delivery.
@@maeguk1you can
It's nice to have a tow hitch available on Model 3, but for a 60k car, it could have something more practical. Imagine that your car's bottom is dirty, you have to remove the plastic lid by hand and put it into your trunk. German car makers provides automatic (electric) swivelling hitch that come out from the bottom on the puch of a button. Come on Elon! And this technological 60k car isn't able to automatically enable the towing mode when detecting a trailer coupled on the electrical plug?! What if driver forget to do it or forget to get out of the mode after towing (less likely to happen as there is a nice caravan pictogram glowing on the screen)?
ledog713 actually, it does figure out a plug is connected, found that out later!
Do you know the diameter of the ball? I am hoping that it is 50 mm.
John Rogers yep it’s 50 as per ISO standard
@@mrtnmnstr Thank-you Vinder. I was worried that it might be the American standard. Fortunately we follow similar rules to Europe in Australia.
Shouldn't the red key come out? Don't think it's safe to tow with the red key still in
wait, this hole stays open?
Matthias Fritz the hole stays open when the tow hitch is there indeed. That's why it's wise to unmount it again when you're done towing
That’s what she said
Its not installed correctly.
So you keep the base exposed to dust and mud! Really bad design! You should provide a cover for this
If you are going to try to explain something, you need to explain all the necessary steps involved. You have missed approx 30% of How and what needs to be done. For example keys/rotation directions/auto trailer mode/weight limitations etc.
Lol clean your fucking car dude
