- Happy Friday lovelies! So today's video is about the infamous Guest Room that most Arabic homes have (ghorfet ad-deauf). I might go into more detail about this in the future because I think it's pretty interesting 🧐 Especially if you're moving to Jordan or are new to the country, it's definitely something to get your head around! I also go into more detail about the 'Arabic Room' which probably has a proper name(?) 🧐 which was featured in one of my last videos :)
We also took a trip to Al-Nejmah, a really magical traditional Arabic dessert shop (it's also got lots of nontraditional modern sweets). This branch is just off Khalda circle. Here's the website: www.alnejmahsw...
Thanks for watching!!

This channel is about my daily adventures living in the Middle East and how I navigate motherhood outside of a comfort zone as MIA - Mummy in Amman 🙃
Waving, not drowning 😅🙋🏼♀️
Say hi if you’re in a similar boat!

Sonething interesting: us the Portuguese always keep the living room immaculate, clean and locked in case we get "visitas". Some people even cover the sofa and table with a plastic cover to keep it from getting dusty 😂😂 Usually you have a smaller separate actual living room that you use on a daily basis or you just have a tv sofa sofa in the kitchen which is the place you actually use as a living room on a daily basis. I know live in Mozambique and people here don't have that habit at all. They just sit in the guests room as if nothing is happening 😂 I had forgotten about this habit, but watching this video just reminded me of it and made me very anxious 😅😅
Loved this one! I think the forbidden room is something completely unknown to a lot of people who aren't Arab.
I am a Pakistani Muslim, and we have same room in our homes. We call it drawing room ( I don't know why)
OMG!! Those desserts at the end looked so good. No wonder so many of us middle easterners are diabetic. Very nice video.
OMG I was so happy when I see that Halida circle like they name after me and I love they pastrys sweet shops❤
It's really interesting hearing your perspective on Arab culture
I discovered your channel a few days ago and I love it. I have become so homesick watching the videos. I left Jordan 45 years ago when I was 8 years old and until the day I die it will always be home. I was supposed to spend spring there this year but for obvious reasons it didn't happen. From now on when my western friends ask me about Jordan I am just going to tell them to watch your videos.
What a beautiful reception room! It is gorgeous!!!
Guest room is the forbidden room for family members 😂 but I used to study in it because we had a small house ..so when someone visit it’s like evacuation
Haha I can imagine!
That room you started out in was stunning.
It is, isn’t it! ☺️
god, the sound of those gas cannister trucks nearly brought a tear to my eye ahahaha! never thought i'd miss those things!
One of the thing i like about your channel is that it is so representative of the Majority of Jordanian Households whether it was about tradition or about daily life style, i saw a lot of foreigner making videos about Jordan and it is either Soo traditional to the degree you feel Jordan is out of fairy tale , or it is a copy of the west with all of its valuer which is affiliated with 1% of Jordan mainly living in North and west of Amman ( i used to live in northern Amman before i go abroad so no hate here :) ).
keep the good work
You are our sister and we welcome you in your second country We are your brothers, and all Jordanians are your brothers. Welcome, and I enjoyed your videos a lot
I am Syrian living in Amman and i do enjoy the knafeh quite a lot ,although my jam is not knafeh its حلاوة الجين ...idk how to translalte it but its great try it from السهل الاخضر ..its as if you are eating a cloud .. dip it in قطر and eat 😍 ...maybe after the curfew is lifted in sha'a Allah
Yesss nobody is allowed in the guest room 😂 my mom would make us clean everything if we sit there for an hour 😂
The knafeh looks great 😭 you made me hungry 😂 nice video 💜👍
Yup, no one is allowed there!!!!
You remind me back home sudan we used to have the same thing guest room, no one allowed to enter unless your guest and its always tidy.
Sudanese are Arabs too, so we share a lot, generally speaking, Sudanese are the kindest Arabs ever, BTW I am Jordanian.
Ma Alsalameh
Thanks, really enjoyed that. I can't wait to visit the sweet and Ice cream shops with family and friends. Hope you can review more of your favourite places..
Thanks! If that is something people are interested in I'll try and do more :)
I'm so jordanian I looked at the thumbnail and without reading the title went "3'orfet el 9'yoof" 😂😂
hello, I am jordanian in Germany, and I have newly discovered your channel, it is sooo lovely, so simple , and brings me back memories of my lovely warm Jordan
Love this vedio...it's so real and nice🌷🌷❤️
Thank you
All day waching your videos
I think its a personal matter not having family pictures in the guest room! Ours always had pictures of family and grandchildren at least in my family!
welcome to Jordan lovely Rachel , I miss knafeh and hanging out "because of the quarantine " and watching your videos was very nice , it made me feel a proud Jordanian especially when you talked about the hospitality and friendliness . Stay safe 💕
I'm Jordanian, and your couch is in the guest room, exactly like we have 😂😂😍❤️
I like the part about the guest room and like everyone say it's forbidden and it's only for guests
Love your videos ❤ keep going and after coronavirus is over ask your husband to take you to irbid and let him show you the spring and how it's so beautiful
You are killing me with the knafeh!!! Knafeh with ka3ek is more of a lebanese breakfast thing.
Oh, I really adore your videos! as a Jordanian woman, I must say that the concept of the guests' room is essential in every Jordanian house. But I wanna mention something, regarding the pajamas topic, wearing pajamas all day differs between families of course, for example in our family we wear comfy casual clothes, and pajamas after the sunset, while my friend's family members prefer to wear it all the day long ^_^. I hope you make more videos as well as more vlogs in the modern spots you love to visit in Amman. ♥♥
That's nice to know! I like that it's comfy clothes until sunset, really interesting - thanks for sharing ☺️ Inshallah more vlogs from around Amman soon
Lol yes there is the living room and the guest living room... But I don't have it at mine. Got convinced with the English culture to be coooool with everyone
nice video , God bless
keep going, love your perspective of our culture, hopefully Nejmah will sponsor you one day.
Thank you! ☺️
Very nice go on
I like your videos, I'm Saudi but i live in England
Wa alaykum assalam
استمري أنتي رائعه
Indian Kashmir has 100% similar culture. The best for the guest, shoes out, hospitality at its pinnacle.
Salam, i am really loving ur videos. I visited palestine and Amaan.. i enjoyed both places altho i had kind of a culture shock. i loved the food and people. Driving there was a bit scary lol... Definitely different driving here in america.I hope you are doing well, I will continue to watch your journey😀
Hopefully you'll visit again.
I have personal pictures in mine 😁 it depends on the culture and beliefs of the owner I guess🤷
😘
The most famous kunafeh is that which is made by "habiba" or "sahl gharbi" 🤨
The other sweety products you can find it in "zalatimo" or "jabri" locals .
I am from Algeria but I know a lot about Jordan 😎.
*berbère-Algeria-Deutschland*
7:50 The gas trucks are everywhere 😂
I know 😂😂😂
I remember once when visiting my husband's family, I got up, took a shower and got dressed, and my husband and his dad were immediately asking me "where are you going??" Haha I was just getting dressed for the day! 😅
Hahaha exactly the same thing has happened to me! 😂
😂 😂 😂
Shibshib 😂😂😂👌🏼 I think this word it's just for Jordanian people😂
Not only but Egyptian and Moroccan as well and also in gulf countries...
We use it in Libya too, bro : )
Putting the "Quran" in the wall of a guest room or hanging from the front mirror of a car is unfortunately has nothing to do with the relegion of Islam. Quran is supposed to be put in a clean reachable place so that you can access it easily and read it.
What is about my invitation to u
To see our guest room
Can you do a video with someone you know but the person didn’t know so much arabic so you say words in arabic and the person with you will try to know the meaning of the words. And i likee your videos soo much you’re so sweet and kind and i lovee you And i think you will be super speaker in arabic بحبك💖💖
Let me enlighten you a bit ,of why Jordanians , but a blanket or whatever,on their feet , when they're laying comfortably in the living room, the reason is -and you should've known this by now- it's considered very disrespectful to show the bottom of you feet or even the bottom of your shoes into anybody's face.😊😊
Many cultures keep a separate room for guests, not really an arab thing.
Hey I was wondering how did you do your Nikah? If you are Christian and he is Muslim?
Not all families or individuals change into pajamas. My Family and all my friends and all the people I know, do not do that. So this is not a general habit. Pajamas are for bedroom. Before few decades, If you go out of the bedroom for any reason and for a short time, a woman must wear a robe on the top of the pajama.
Beautiful guest room. But Quran is not a decoration it's a book to read and obey the instructions inside. But unfortunately now a days many Muslims using it as a decoration.
Are u in Zaria?
No I’m currently in Amman but I have family I often visit there
Cool
I enjoy your vids
In every typical Arab house, there is always that Pajamas in which fathers love and always keep wear and feel most comfortable with and which everybody else hates for some reason. They could be the finest brands but we would still hate seeing our fathers wearing them and really hope to burn them in the most vicious way ever without our fathers know about that.
This not just an Arab thing. I am a Pakistani Muslim, and same used to happen in our homes lol
Brilliant comment lol and so true
I never wear my pajamas during the day in Jordan. I hate pajamas 🤣
@Couchupz me too😂😂😂
KNAFE IS THE BEST SWEET
CHOCOLATE GOT NOTHING ON KNAFE
Love your enthusiasm 😂
MummyinAmman you know it’s true though
There is literally nothing like eating knafe at habibah in dowtown amman while standing in the street.
@@mohammadafaneh8595 on the street.*
I'm surprised you were even allowed to shoot a video in the guests room!!! GET OUT!!
Ummm.. No? ... Me and my family always sit in it together as it's the biggest room, but we are always careful to keep it clean and ready for the guests all the time.. No need to stay out of it :)
@@Yazan_Majdalawi until I reached college, we were basically out of it, lol. It's just drilled into my mind now that I just don't go there 😂
@@fadisharif 😂😂
well every family is defirent 😘
Chocolate with knafeh , as far as I'm concerned, is border line blasphemy !!😖😲 from where the hell this ghastly combination comes from?!!
