Suprenote devices have received a new update. It's a minor update, but it does bring welcome fixes to both line-up of devices and some important new functionality for the X2 platform.

Would love to see Obsidian on this.
I tried adding the Obsidian APK, but when choosing where to store a vault in the file system, I see an error:
Failed to choose folder: No activity found to handle intent {act=android.intent.action.OPEN_DOCUMENT_TREE flg=0xc3}.
Looks like there will need to be some modification to the file system for vaults to store properly, but I'm sure it'll happen soon!
Same here!
Thanks for testing this. Sad that it doesn't work though.
Logseq?
Looks like this intent could be handled by a file manager app. Maybe side loading a file manager can fix this?
Readwise reader (maybe Readwise) would be great on SN, IMO. KoReader is another option.
Thanks Voja.
This video may have saved me some cash!
I've been considering purchasing a Boox device to compliment my A5X because I need to both search the web with a browser I can access in a better way than creating links on my A5x... and need to run a basic bible program.
With longevity in mind, I intend selling my A5X and purchasing an A5X2, but having learned of the _'side-loading'_ ability of the coming A5X2 I no longer see the need of purchasing a Boox device after all, as long as I can install the browser *EinkBro* and a basic bible app.
It would be very helpful for me if you could include in your coming video an attempt to install *EinkBro,* which is a very light App designed for eink devices. :)
A browser app would be awesome to see in action in the next video!
I'm here to watch your next steps on the journey to madness.
And also Supernotes updates, maybe ;)
Pack your bags then! |:D
Thanks Voja. Looking forward to the side loading test video. For me that’s the deal breaker. If there is a way to manage google documents, I’ll be switching to a5x2 when it becomes available.
I love to see Google Play Books running on the Supernote. All my ePubs are on GPB, and its absence is what's stopping me from buying the device.
As the device doesn't support the Google Play store no app that requires Google Play Services will work. That includes Google Play Books.
@@MyDeepGuide Yeah, I know. The only flaw in a near perfect device, IMHO. As someone who annotates a lot, I love how GPB compiles all my notes and highlights and saves them on my Google Drive. Each annotated book is saved as a separate file. Brilliant! The only device which meets my requirements is the iPad Mini 6. But by the time I get the Apple Pencil 2nd Gen and the matte paper-like screen protector, it'll end up costing me twice as much (if not more) than a Supernote. Ugh.
Thanks Voja, as always a great video, and I don't think "you've lost it," even with the squiggles. I have been playing around with this and did a short video on early impressions. So far Kobo, Libby and Nook work well. OneNote was a hot mess and apps that require Google Services will not load. I was more interested in the readers, but can't wait to hear your thoughts.
Thanks for the report. Kobo is my top interest, and come to think of it, Libby is a nice option to have too.
Libby app from Overdrive would be interesting to test. ☺️
On OS versioning, sounds like the manufacturer has 2 different code/build trees. If true then maybe one day they merge the tree's which would helpp everyone IMHO
I would love to hear about the security patches that have not been applied to android 11 for this device. Sideling can be quite dangerous if a APK file is compromised with a well-known exploit.
I think a central point re side-loading is whether Ratta offer or plan to offer some API for low-latency pen input (like Boox offers). Failing that only standard "thumb-based" app UI interactions will work, which is a start but a shame going forward.
Would it be possible for you to attach a reading light to the supernote and show how reflective the screen coating is? (I wanna be able to read using the supernote at night occasionally and hope to be able to replace my kindle with it in addition to use the obsidian like tagging) on a separate note I would love to see how the obsidian app or any markdown editor looks on the supernote!
Thank you, Voja. I have sideloaded Omnivore and I have it as Chrome extension and an Iphone app. What would be better is some sort of web to pdf converter that could allow to quickly save a pdf from a laptop and use the digest feature later on the SN. It is possible, using the Adobe Chrome extension, then saving the pdf in a folder that synchronizes with the SN, but the process is a bit slow and has too many steps. Something else that would be interesting: reviewing MS Outlook and MS Excel on the SN. I also sideloaded them and they appear to be very responsive. I haven't really tested it, but if Outlook allows to natively handle various calendars and email clients as it does on the desktop version, that would be awesome. On that specific MS topic, getting your insights of sharing SN files through synchronization with OneDrive is also something I would be interested to know. Thank you again!
Any web browser sideloaded would be great.
I’d like to see more of how you can use MDO on the A6X2 as I am considering getting that. I remember seeing you say you could import it into a note and search content, etc. Also, how does it look on a smaller screen. I assume that, unlike Boox, it doesn’t have shapes. Thanks Voja.
The disappearing strokes get better. but they introduced another one. I call that bug Phantom deleting. I am using a Lamy, so my two finger gesture on the screen for the A6X2 is deleting. After the update I got many false delete action until I turned the gesture off. They are very aware of that issue. Something wrong with palm rejection this time.
i'm honestly glad the disappearing strokes is a problem for everyone bc i was scared it was just me or my device 😬 it's not fixed on mine yet though, hoping they do soon
They have confirmed to me that they seem to have identified what causes the bug, so hopefully that should be fixed in the next update :)
Could you try Zoo for Zotero? Would be nice to know if PDFs can sync and be opened / annotated
Hi Voja, is it still hard to tap the icons in A6x2 using fingers?
Based on his previous comments, I think it seems harder for him to tap the icons than for a user under normal conditions, because he is trying to manipulate the device at an odd angle, under a camera.
As an app, definitely Pocket!
Voja is the new Bob Ross
It must have been a channelling of Bob Ross!
Haaappy little accidents. 😅
Golden scribbles… gold, Jerry, gold! (Seinfeld reference)
Is A6X better for note taking and reading or shall I wait for A5X2 . Please advice
I would really like to see Logos Bible Software side loaded. I use my Nomad for a ton of reading and hate having to export my commentaries and devotionals off logos just to read them on my nomad
Hi, can you please say if the A6 X2 and Nomad (from us website) same or different?
Yes, the A6X2 is the Nomad and vice versa.
My understanding is that exported PDFs of your handwritten notes do not preserve the OCR. This is a bummer!
hmm wondering if a6x and a5x will get android 11 ?
I'm fairly certain that they won't, because of the licencing limitations associated with specific hardware SoCs used in these devices. This is why Boox devices also don't get Android version upgrades, only their own OS version updates.
Plz try Jnotes
I would like to see google books sideloaded
Do you think A4X release this year?
The release of the A5X2 was, if I'm not mistaken... the first quarter of 2024 but currently but has since been moved to the second quarter, and as the A4X2 was estimated to be nearer the end of the year, I wouldn't be surprised if it has been bumped into the first quarter of 2025.
My #1 Sideload Desire: Kobo. I'm already heavily invested in the Kobo ecosystem, and an eink device which lacks easy access to my library is a no-go for me. While it is my experience that the Kobo app for Android is borderline terrible--much worse than the native software on Kobo devices--it's still better than nothing.
