Chris Stuckmann and John Flickinger review Ant-Man and the Wasp, starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Walton Goggins, Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, Tip "T.I." Harris, David Dastmalchian, Hannah John Kamen, Abby Ryder-Fortson, Randall Park, Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Douglas. Directed by Peyton Reed.
The final post-credits scene was creepy as fuck. Emergency broadcast, panic in the streets, an empty house without Scott or Hope in it, and just a pre-programmed Ant doing the fake Scott routine forever.
swng thank you! these guys made it seem like that credit was useless
Everyone did. Critics are such assholes when it comes to MCU movies. If your tired of them just stop watching them. These people are looking for everything to be explained yet bitch about exposition when it's given. I never understood that
swng it was creepy. But it was ruined with the ant playing the drums. Like it killed the mood i had. Like why. It was dark and it gave me chills, then they add the ant playing the drums and it killed it for me.
swng Can I ask what your avatar is?
Will Strickland what does not watching critics have to do with not liking an end credits scene? Little harsh there.
The end credits scene with the Ant is actually more darker than it seems. You can hear on the television news about an emergency alert of some sort and you can faintly hear ambulances/police sirens I think (referencing the dusting caused by Thanos.) So now the Ant is stuck doing Scott's routine on repeat for god knows how long since Hope and Hank are gone. There's more to that scene than just an ant playing the drums...
thesquirozgx I'm getting so annoyed by all these reviews talking about how this scene is just about the ant playing drums.. people are missing the point
It had the right idea but you get to see the TV for about 1 second and then it pans to the Ant playing the drums which is there for humor so you quickly forget about what you very briefly saw on the TV. I mean as of the point of typing this comment I saw the film literally 23 hours ago and it was only from reading this comment that I remembered that there was the emergency broadcast on the TV. I feel like the Humor and the "dark tone" of the scene clash with each other. I think they should have put more of a focus on the Dark part of it as I am interested in that way more and think it is creepy how how alot of people are just dead and how people would be panicking because they wouldn't know what is going on. I would like to see that way more because that scene with the Ant was apparently in the trailer so people had seen it but also we saw the Ant playing the drum earlier in the film. Seeing the same joke numerous times is a bit dull.
thesquirozgx
Why would the ant still be stuck in scott’s routine? Scott doesn’t have to pretend that he’s at home anymore
Yeah. Maybe that Ant just enjoys playing the drums.
That's hardly dark at all
Pants-Man and the Watch! That ant playing drums will return in Avengers 4 to defeat Thanos.
Max Minhtet the fuck he will
First five minutes, ant kills Thanos and takes the Gauntlet, rest of the movie is the Avengers trying to beat the ant.
Thanos The Mad Titan Oh shit, Thanos. I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were here. Please spare me.
Max Minhtet nah too late buddy
Thanos The Mad Titan Nooo! Deadpool! Quick! Break the 4th wall! *Turns to ashes*
Btw Janet says the Tardigrade
Are cute but dangerous. That is not in the quantum realm Tardigrade are also known as water bears and are actually animals that live on the microscopic scale. those are what attack when hank is shrinking so he is not in the quantum realm yet. They are real animals and not part of any marvel microverse. Just so you know. Water bears are extremely hardy and can live in space and can survive without food or water for 70 plus years.
Alchemist1330 Thank you for posting that comment so I don't have to. Sadly enough I'm quite certain that this nugget of info/knowledge won't be read by neither Chris nor John and thereby not enlighten them and relieve them of at least one misconception about this little but OK film :-)
Yes thank you. I was about to post this. Water Bears are real life creatures and are bad ass.
Yeah I don't usually like to be the guy who says you're not smart enough to under stand things in the movie but yeah Water bears are an actual living creature.
thanks for posting that .. i was so annoyed when i heard chris talking about water bears without knowing what it is and that at that level .. hank was not in the quantum realm yet
As an Aquarius, yes to Water Bearers being bad ass!!
Oh wait, you said "water bears".
B-
Wasn’t that horrible and the villain (Ghost) is better than Yellow-Jacket in every way.
Robert Gillan Yeah, Yellow Jacket had some potential with the actor they had and he ended up just being forgettable.
Chris, one thing that was mentioned at the end was that Scott was going back into the quantum realm to collect 'healing particles'. I believe it's implied that Janet had absorbed healing particles while in the quantum realm. This is what Ghost was trying to forcefully extract with Hanks lab. Janet does NOT have powers, she was releasing her stored healing particles to stabilize Ghost. They were collecting more healing particles at the end of the film to continue with the research (they explicitly say it's for Ghosts character if I recall correctly. )
Why would you compare it to something as big as infinity war. This film was good to me becuase it didnt have high stakes and the villain didnt want to end the world like every other marvel film. Not every marvel film has to be about saving the world
12345 6 yeah but it could act like it was important.
12345 6 Ant man and wasp act like it was nothing important and that's why people is like "yeah, it was okay."
If the villian doesn’t threaten the hero at all its shit. Marvel has struggeled with this till this year.
THAT ISN'T WEED SHAGGY it doesnt have to be important, if you make a universe where every single film a character saves the world, it becomes very repetititve and unrealistic.
12345 6 enough with the unrealistic thing. Besides it should be a very good film. Unique and different from other Marvel films like GOTG.
I don't know about you guys, but waiting for that first post credit scene and seeing Hank, Hope and Michelle Pfeiffer all fall victim to the Snap, leaving Scott stuck in the quantum realm caught me by surprise.
darkprince56 chills
SpaceboundJoker yessss I got goosebumps!
I know I’m late but as soon as he went in the quantum realm I saw it coming.
The6FootTurkey damn, I usually see things coming but not that
darkprince56 I thought the end of the movie or the post credit scene would tie in to infinity war.
I feel like that intro was the best part, John's scream tho 😂
Fable Joey and his laugh 😂
If you like cringe then yeah I guess
Yes
So many John and Chris videos its amazing
Godzilla Conspiracy Theory I know right
If you pay attention to the movie, most of Antman's issue was the defective suit, not Scott's ability to use it. They did not retcon his abilities, the "work in progress" suit was just a plot device to showcase the Wasp.
That's the problem. Why purposely make him shit just to show off Wasp? He's the main character, the titular character. She's his sidekick, not the other way around. They made him look like a useless idiot who can't survive without Wasp when he was badass af alone in the first movie. Its an insult to the character and us Antman fans. If it happens once, we get it but when his suit malfunctions like 3 times in the movie, I'm like, "Wtf? This is getting dumb." That is just lazy writing. Ant Man was really treated like a joke.
Just like an old car, old suit breaking down.
@@ammaranuar2544 Wasp is not Ant-Man’s sidekick. the characters have equal billing...
@@brody02 She didn’t get the movie first now did she. They wouldn’t have made a solo movie called The Wasp or Wasp, or whatever the way they did with Antman 2015
That awkward humor between you and TheFlickPick is amazing
Least it's not painfully awkward, it's not like an Adam Sandler movie.
Man you guys didn't get how unsettling the last credit scene was did ya?
Disappointed you guys didn't go into how dead San Fransisco is after the snap in the last after credits scene, with the EAS blaring in the background. That's creepy. Plus, the "Ant-Man and The Wasp will return?"
TheRealdealdude2 THANK YOU!!! that's the point of the credit scene
TheRealdealdude2 finally someone who also thought that scene was creepy. I couldn’t even laugh at the ant playing drum just because I felt the creepiness after the snap. FUCK THANOS
Rian Hidayat Yeah it was so fucking eerie
SAME especially the music made it even more creepier
I don't understand how Scott was a bumbling idiot in this one and wasn't much a hero :/ most of his mistakes was because the suit he had kept malfunctioning
MOJ21Gaming / TheRockierPodcast same here not understanding what scene made him look dumb
Yeah, and when it came to the science bits, Scotts smart but never been smart to understand that lingo lol
MOJ21Gaming / TheRockierPodcast they clearly went with the Ironman 3 malfunctionsing suit bit to keep Scott busy in this film.
Yeah, and he even saved hope and Hank from the jail.... No one mentions this.
Catman he knew what he was doing. It was just that truth serum!!!!! lol. But most of them time is his suit f*cking him over.
I like oxygen. It keeps me alive.
how dare you, who do you think you are?
i like death
it gives me light
wow
you get it
i enjoy oxygen as well
mario miranda very cool
I'm pretty sure the MCU will be remembered as an episodic series. It's certainly meant to be watched in order. However I totally see where you are coming from. Each film should at least try to be good enough to stand alone.
Like The Winter Soldier. Hence why it's the best one.
agreed. Im currently watching them all in order because i had seen half the mcu films in theatres and always felt like i didn't know what was really going on
@@tylergcole1727 so what did u think
Yeah, all of them stand well on their own, i.e. they have a solid plot. Some stand way better than others, and if u rank them, thats how u should do it.
i may get hate for that, but generally people like all of them, though as i said some are Okay, some are good, some are great, but none are bad or disasters like lets say some xmen films
But seeing as its basically a great tv series lol, in that sense its harder to compare them alone. so i guess the plot and screenplay is the best way to judge them.
@@ebenezerosaghae That’s your inner MCU fanboy talking. They all feel like episodes of a tv series leading up to all the big final. Also I’m not sure if you know about iron man 2 andThor the dark world because those are pretty bad films!
I have to disagree with you on this one. This was a really fun movie, especially with the addition of the Wasp. Yes, it’s most definitely a filler movie, but really any movie between two hyped up movies is a filler movie. If this was the first Antman instead of the second, it would still be called a filler. I thought it lacked a bit of substance and is definitely not the greatest or funniest marvel movie ever, but in general, I enjoyed the comedy, action scenes, and interactions between the heroes and villains. It’s just my opinion though.
Davis B. Disagree with one thing you said, this just very may well be the funniest Marvel movie. I can’t decide between Ant-Man and the Wasp or Thor Ragnarok.
I liked the movie a great deal. But everything they said about Janet and not explaining anything is a major criticism. It and the lackluster villains were the 2 major gripes I had with this movie. Still had a great time at the theater but this movie could've EASILY used an extra 15 minutes to explain and flesh things out more. I know Peyton Reed said he likes to keep movies under 2 hours so they have a certain flow and punch to them. But man had they gave a little more depth to Goggins character and explained how Janet survived, how Janet got magic E.T. fingers, showed a scene of Janet surviving in the Quantum realm in a flashback or something anything. But instead they decided to keep scenes of Jimmy Woo who got pretty annoying by the end of the movie. He was funny at first but his schtick got old fast.
Austin Evans Agreed, Janet’s powers were explained very poorly and the movie was missing a true villain. Other than that I loved it. Only thing I disagree with you on is the FBI agent. I thought he was hilarious.
Yeah, once I found out Ant-Man and the Wasp was coming out after Infinity War, I was worried that the movie wouldn’t perform well and people would think of it as filler or unimportant.
I felt they had Goggins because Ghost isn't really a villain. The one time she was going to do something truly heinous. Foster calls her out and gives her an ultimatum. And then she doesn't do it. Foster didn't believe their plan would kill Janet. They were wrong but they honestly didn't know.
I liked Ant-Man and the Wasp. I just thought it was a really enjoyable film. I’d definitely watch it again.
i liked it too, it pretty good. that end when they dusted away was cool.
Me too 😁👍
i know i would get hated for this, but I've enjoyed all the marvel films and watched all of them at least twice. The only slight negatives i have now are based of the internet.
As much as i like reviews, they tend to affect you opinion as well as remind u what u liked.
the quantum stuff with janet, yeah it was a bit throw away, but it can be explored in a sequel. other than that convenience The film was good. I kinda liked ghosr as well
It's an enjoyable movie, fairly entertaining and hilarious but the story however was extremely disposable and throwaway
Chris also brings up another good point. Scott seems less confident/intelligent in this film despite being relatively cunning in the original, and having been exposed to so much more over the last few MCU films. His character devolved. It was very disconcerting.
WarlordRising two years of house arrest will do that to you
WarlordRising Well when he’s hanging around a bunch of scientists, yeah he’s gonna seem pretty dumb. While he’s around Luis and all of them he looks like a genius.
I have to disagree, scott managed to break hope and hank free with the ants and get used to the little cars and That shitty suit
He'd been on house arrest and was bored out of his mind. Makes sense that his confidence would be lowered.
Not only the house arrest, but he spends that entire time thinking he's probably ruined his relationship with Hank and Hope, and potentially ruined their lives as well.
I was surprised when you gave the movie a C+. I enjoyed the movie a lot. After seeing this, I think you have a valid point. It feels like they wanted to save the exploring/explaining of the quantum realm for avengers 4. They also needed to trap Scot there so he will be the one to do the explaining instead of Janet.
This movie was fun
Both Antman films were fun
The villains are what's boring about them though. Yellow Jacket was awful
Walton Goggins was pointless. I consider him the real villain because he was a fly.... Just gway... gway you.
Ghost had her reasons. Didn't see her as a villain. Just someone in fear for her life.
The Colin Horton Podcast yes he is. He's fawkin great but they wasted his talent in this.
Andre Rumengan I'm hoping that they use her character more as a hero in future movies
@Colin Horton Movie Reviews He's amazing actor indeed, he was great in Tomb Raider but his character here was extremely dull and uninteresting cliche villain
I just saw the movie (UK release), and I personally loved it and I completely understand how you feel. I’d give it a 7/10
I feel like a lot of people have missed the point of Ant Man and the Wasp even after Feige told us what we were going to get. This movie is another stepping stone in the Marvel world, and it has some nice emotional stakes and great character moments. I think Ant Man and the Wasp will shine once the other movies have dropped and filled in some of the gaps. I feel like Marvel did do something genuinely different here and I think it will get better as this universe goes on.
I don't agree with the criticism about the way Scott Lang has been portrayed. I don't think that he was portrayed as stupid or a side character. It seems that way because he is street smart whereas the Pyms are knowledgeable about the science behind the quantum realm, and most of the movie is about that realm. Actually, He does get into action and save Hope twice, once in the restaurant from Sunny Birch and then during the finale sequence, he is also the guy who gets the lab back. Sure, hope gets a good amount of action but I don't think that it diminishes Scott's character in any way.
@Rey Kenobi, Scott's got engineering degrees! As someone with 2 engineering degrees myself, I can tell you we have to study advanced math and science, including quantum physics. Scott should've been portrayed with higher STEM intellect than he was in this sequel!
Having just watched it recently for the first time, I felt like almost all of his character's successes during the film were either him stumbling into success as a gaff, or via using the powers of the suit. He shows no fighting ability, no strategic ability, basically nothing about him shows that he could be a successful hero other than the willingness to help others and having a super suit. It felt in the first film like he actually had a natural aptitude and inclination towards being a superhero, and that his successes at times were because of him, not just because of dumb luck or having a super suit. The scenes you mentioned where he succeeded were almost almost exclusively because of having access to someone else's technology, and not because of his own set of skills or strategy etc. that enabled him to succeed.
Meanwhile we see Wasp go full blown martial arts badass, seemingly far more competition than he could ever hope to be, and he seems like a comic relief side-kick who sometimes helps out out of sheer luck. I'm not saying that Wasp shouldn't be portrayed as a badass and superior scientist etc. because given her passion and dedication to do it it makes sense. It just seems unusual in that it feels like he's almost used as a joke in contrast to make her seem more competent in comparison, instead of just standing on her own as a character.
There is no reason she couldn't be portrayed as a successful competent badass, but without making him seem like a joke in the process, and letting him have his own moments to shine as something other than a lucky bumbling (but well intentioned) idiot who stumbled into a super suit.
This movie is worst than the first. They did a terrible job potraying Scott's character. I knew he did some useful stuff here and there. But as a whole, first of all the plot is stupid, nothing related with being a superhero to the public, especially scott, just a silly guy helping some old dude saving his wife. I also think Scott seemed like a side character. I don't the title should be 'Ant-man and the wasp' . But rather 'The Wasp'. I think it's better that way. But the humor and action is great. Giving this an average-to-good movie. I prefer BP over this though, even though BP is also an average-to-good movie for me
Chris, they did explain the Ghost-Janet thing, just poorly. If you noticed in the Quantum Realm Hank was "ghosting" a little too and Janet was able to fix it there, she later explains that the QR changed her, maybe even evolved her.
yeah. looks their expectations are what marred the movie for them. they went in thinking they would get comprehensive scientific and philosophical explanations for everything.
How did the ghost not fall through the floor?
what what haha yeah
she can clearly control her abilities
And hop on a motorcycle and zoom away? Tru, tru.
To not get to the other side? Wait...is this not a joke?
Beginning was OK... End was very fun. Good filler
I want more than a filler for 10(!) dollar.
Anime Fan my lunch at Sonic yesterday was $10. I think a fun time at the movies is worth that. It doesn't have to be the in the top 10% to be worth $10 to me.
I agree. It was great that the movie lightened the darkness after Infinity War.
Def untill after the credits looool
movies shouldnt be filler. try harder or dont make a movie
I’m a little disappointed in you guys. They explain Janet’s Quantum Energy, it’s the whole reason why Ghost is after the lab. Bill talks about it. That’s why they said they were afraid of Janet being torn apart. Janet uses her energy to heal Ghost and that’s why she gets “dusted” by Thanos. Note that Scott is going back for more “Quantum Healing Crystals”. Why go back if Janet has the power still? Come on guys. Pay attention.
Seriously, THIS! ^
well what kinds of energy, how does it works? is it just because she stayed in the quantum realm long enough that she now have quantum energy which is magical and can fix every problems? and how did she stayed down there that long and not dying? is it because the quantum energy she magically have prevent her from needing food or water? but still makes her age? these are valid questions that they never even try to explain. i love marvel movies but this movie was lazy in terms of story telling.
@@billnguyen4148
Those questions you asked will be answered if Marvel make an Antman 3. Stay tune.
yeah, that review is kind of embarassing...
and even if they hadn't explained it, it wouldn't have made the movie much worse. because despite it being the narrative goal it wasn't the focus of the movie.
EXACTLY. The movie wasn't about the quantum realm, it merely features it. As such the point was to evoke wonder and intrigue A SENSE OF MYSTERY. You don't necessarily introduce those things then shoot yourself in the proverbial foot by answering everything in the same instance.
Why does everyone keep saying she comes out with "Magic Powers"? Yay, you're like the 53rd video to say "Magic Powers" now. She did not cure Ghost as the mid-credits tells us. She said she was changed and it should make sense that after being in the Quantum Realm as long as she was she was changed in a way that could help someone like Ghost as her powers were quantum based. The mid credits scene and the (albeit) weak reason Ghost wanted Janet for herself makes it clear that quantum energy may be the key to helping Ghost. Janet was able to settle Ghost a bit, she did not MAGICALLY CURE her and the mid-credits scene proves she just needs a high amount of that quamtum energy that Janet is... irradiated with because she had been there for so long...
A lot of reviewers can't think for themselves, they broadcast from the same dumb script.
Edgar Wright's vision of Ant-Man sounds like a much better version than Peyton Reed's version
Well we can all thank Disney for this mediocre heap.
The thing is Wright didn't want to be his Ant Man to be connected with the MCU and but using his filmmaking style for Ant Man would've been awesome and he's pretty good at storytelling, the writers of this movie, yeah not that much comparing to Wright's skills
@@800Ms-k6n I understand
Wasnt expecting this video, but its a welcome addition :) thx Chris
AlejoConejo2209 “A surprise to be sure, but a welcomed one.”
If Scott runs out of energy when he goes big maybe when Janet was super small the energy previously in her body would sustain her for 30 years
Oh, come on guys, don't compare this to JL. Yes, it has some problems with Janet and the quantum realm but we should consider that maybe Scott's stupidness comes from not doing anything other than spending time with his daughter and playing drums for 2 years in house arrest. And this is supposed to be a comedy not something like Infinity War which was so big compared to any other Marvel movie.
Ghost wasn't a ''villain'' in this movie. And I don't think they wanted her to be a villain. That was the point. Her acting and the VFX done with her was amazing in my opinion.
And for the second after credits scene, yes, I thought it was disappointing at first but, then I realized, everybody is dead in that house and nobody will free him out of Scott's routine. Also, the TV guys, the TV. I think that was pretty sad.
I respect your opinions but I think you're judging this one a bit harshly. This is a spoiler review and you didn't even talk about the parts that you enjoyed.
I'd give this movie a 7/10.
Ecem Şenlik I make the same points in my review, with ya.
Ecem Şenlik They shot for mediocrity with this movie why are you okay with that? Nothing memorable about this & won't be talked about a few years from now if that.
If they wanted they could've upped the action made it more unique or memorable like John Wick fights etc but thay said "nah who cares it's Ant Man, people will see it regardless coming off Infinity War buzz".
Catman I don’t think he was dumb just hank Pym and his daughter were just more experienced and amazing and next to them you could see that he’s just a guy who got the suit and can fight. Unlike the pyms who are geniuses and spend their whole time doing this
I think you guys missed the point about Janet. They're clearly saving that for the third film. if you didn't find her talk about 'adaption' and 'evolution' ominous for what is to come then you need to give your movie critic license back.
This movie simply suffers from the fact that it is part of a monumental cinematic universe. The movie itself was a well done super hero movie that had few faults. I also don't think they marketed this movie as being anything more than it was...which was an extremely light hearted, and fun super hero movie with a few serious/touching elements, as well as some pretty decent foreshadowing. I would agree with a lot of the criticism if it had been marketed as some next level, direction changing movie.
You didn’t like the movie as much as me, therefore you didn’t get it. Fuck off lol
@@alexmaverick6647 That strikes me as a particularly stupid comment (possibly even dumber than the 'there's no missing the point in art' comment from the girl who presumably heard about Roland Barthes in a bar once while stoned).
I said nothing about the quality of the movie (enjoyable but incredibly lightweight and forgettable, for the record). They specifically raised the issue of Janet's experiences in the quantum realm, and questioned why it wasn't addressed in this movie, in the review. I directly answered that and pointed out that they should have been able to see that for themselves. Which they should have -it's clearly been foreshadowed.
That's such a lazy and dumbest excuse for saving it for the third movie. Maybe could've been better if they explained it for it and the third film developed it more and more but they don't unfortunately. Marvel has become with lazy writing when it comes to explaining. This does felt like a filler movie rather than a movie of it's own and that's such a let down. Marvel was really hoping that you would overlooked that for the sake of humor and fun action sequences but it doesn't changed the fact that it has inconsitency. In Endgame Scott was trapped in Quantum Realm for 5 hours in which in reality it's five years, but Janet was trapped in the Quantum Realm for 30 years in reality but that means in the Quantum ream, she's trapped for 30 hours so how the hell she aged heavily for 30 hours??? That's just two days, you don't aged from being a 30 old person to a 60 year old person that fast, in just two days, my god Marvel is so lazy at explaining this. It's so lazy that they're saving all of this for a sequel, if the story was split into two parts, then okay i understand it but this is one movie full complete story with less exposition to understand how Janet aged or even survived in the Quantum Realm for 30 hours. It does fell like a filler movie, what if the third movie doesn't addressed it and just focus on fighting new villains?? You never know what would happen in the third movie. Even if the producers and writers have an answer, it's better to show it in the movie don't tell
@@800Ms-k6n ...except it was explained in the first movie that time has no meaning in the quantum realm. It's not that there are 'rules' you can extrapolate for how time works there. Conceivably Janet may have spent centuries there. That's lazy viewing not lazy writing.
The film has very likeable characters and tons of heart. The scenes Scott share with his daughter are absolutely adorable and Cassie really steals the show a number of times. Michael Peña and the rest of that crew is back and they are hilarious in this film. Like it or hate it, there’s loads of laughs to be had in this movie. Hope/The Wasp is great in the movie and is a nice compliment to Ant-Man (also no comments of her being better than Scott because she’s a woman, or any other sjw propaganda for that matter which is always a good thing. I was really worried that they’d go that route with the female lead and all. Scott and Hope are both equally important and both get each other out of tough situations). The stakes are very small scale and personal which I liked. We don’t need a world threatening level event in every superhero film you know. The action in this one was definitely a step up from the first Ant-Man film and there are some beautiful visuals. Michael Douglas is even better in this movie than he was in the last one. The main “villain” has a very understandable motive for what she’s doing, but I wouldn’t even call her a villain tbh (and here’s where we get into what I didn’t like about the movie). Because she’s not even a real villain, that means the movie is missing a true villain for the audience to be against and for the story to revolve around. Janet Van Dyne’s powers were very poorly explained and I still don’t even understand what they are exactly. There aren’t really any consequences in this film, everyone gets off clean and it’s a happy ending (I’ll get to the mid credits scene in a minute). I mean it is an Ant-Man movie so I guess the happy ending is…fine. Last, but not least, like many Marvel films, a good chunk of the moments that are supposed to be serious are undercut by jokes.
Overall this movie has some flaws, but it’s an enjoyable experience with fantastic humor, great characters, and genuine heart. Also the mid credits scene sent chills down my spine and served as an excellent cliffhanger. I was totally expecting it, but it was executed perfectly. Got me even more hyped for Avengers 4
My overall grade: B+ or if you prefer 8/10
Broncos4life You realize 8/10 is only two points away from perfection, right ? :) The movie was entertaining, but come on. Everything surrounding Janet costs it those two points, imo. Add to it the lack of a good villain (which is essential in such a movie) and the very uneven humor, and it's more a 6, at best.
SCharlesDennicon You do realize that there’s a big difference between an 8 and a 10 right? Just like there’s a big difference between a 6 and an 8. Or a 4 and a 6. Two “points” is a lot.
SCharlesDennicon I'd say it's a 4.5/10 or 5/10. Letter grade is like a C- for me. I agree with what you said about the Janet stuff and the uneven humor. But there's also very boring and uninspired directing, there's no good cinematography (not a single memorable shot), plus the incredibly old and repetitive "marvel formula" which for some reason is still being used now. This film was honestly a shitfest compared to the previous 2 marvel movies this year and I'm not even a fan of Black Panther.
John and Chris are so awesome together, they definitely need to do more videos like this.
I never thought Ant Man was dumbed down while watching this film. Well, all film is subjective.
Well they certainly didn’t use him as well as they should have. Wasp definitely stole the show and had all the good action scenes. Ant Mans action scenes weren’t that great. And his suit constantly fucking up was dumb, even if it gave us some funny moments.
I figured anybody that enters the quantum realm is “entangled” with quantum energy, Scott, Janet, Ghost, Janet did not fully heal ghost at the end Scott is down there collecting more quantum energy to help heal ghost completely, also I think the that Ant in the end that is program to act as Scott will help Cassie that or the Ant will also learn up close magic..
I liked it, thought it was good not great. Liked it as much as Black Panther. A perfectly serviceable film that helps pad out the MCU. It just comes after the best they’ve ever done so comparisons hurt it
Hey Chris! Appreciate you doing these regular spoiler discussions once again. On this channel and john’s channel.
I liked Ant Man and the Wasp more than black panther. And I laughed my ass of.
Big facts. Antman and the Wasp was more funny than any other Marvel movie I've seen.
Black Panther is a much substantial and luscious film. It's not even a discussion. You get 10 ant man and the wasp type films a year. A black panther comes around once every few years
Actually those things Janet warns Scott about, and the things almost eating Hank, are tardigrades. They are actually MUCH bigger than they were depicted in the movie. They're not "quantum small", but about 0.04 of an inch. Quite a bit larger than molecules, movie.
What a golden age of John and Chris we are living in.

There is some kinda explanation...for the ghost janet thing, she has gather quantum energy, what she needed from the beginning...she was jsut sharing some...the time laps could have been a microverse who evolve her, which would have explain the warning to scott lang about this realm...also i think there is gonna be some explaination...
It’s a solid B movie!!!
Mr Mimi no
solid c
B movie? Don't you mean Ant Movie?
Nope
I am absolutely loving how much u guys are collabing lately!!
Chris and Jeremy both didn’t get the post credit scene...
Miri Gra wym?
B.P Nation the ant playing is a haunting scene with screams in the background and the aftermath of Thanos snap is really present
Miri Gra Oh, they got it. They just weren't as impressed as you. :D And I share their... perplexity.
i like how you cut to the wide right when the tension was released.
Very Good Chris. ;)
Post credits scene of ant playing the drums is the best part
Dennis Guerrero worst post credits scene ever . Best was in infinity war
Dennis Guerrero the most stupidest scene I’ve seen ever. Can’t believe I actually wasted my time waiting for the credits.
It was kind of eerie and creepy with the shots before the ant playing drums. The world is dead silent. There is an emergency warning on the TV. There is no sign of life except for an ant playing awesome drums.
The Fidget Spinner Movie My thoughts exactly
Killer Blitz lol Chris warned us, we didn’t listen 🤣
A few suggestions for Ant-Man 3:
- Give it to a different director, the first two Thor movies were kinda meh, but as soon as they went with Taika Waititi Thor: Ragnarok was really awesome.. give this franchise back to Edgar Wright or someone with a distinct creative vision
- Lower the budget.. this would allow for more creative choices in this franchise and make it more distinct within the MCU
- Raise the emotional stakes maybe have Hank Pym die to complete Ant-Mans arc or have Ant-Man die to hand the franchise to Wasp.. something that has real weight
- Change the release and marketing.. literally I saw an ad for this movie that addressed why Ant Man wasn’t in Infinity War.. stop making the Ant Man franchise the Marvel pallete cleanser and give the movie space and not have it open soon after an Avengers movie
- Don’t make shit villains.. Yellowjacket was bland and generic, Walton Goggins was wasted and Ghost was kinda stupid and not really a villain.. Marvel has the capability to make great villains like Loki, Killmonger and Thanos, find something from the comics and make it interesting and fresh
Good ideas but your explanation is shit
Still I hate your explanation
Saw it a few minutes ago. Pretty good movie. Especially the mid-credit scene. Tho is still prefer the first Ant-Man. But I freaking LOVE Cassie!!!
The entities she was talking about (tardigrades) are real. Those giant vacuum-bag-looking bugs that Scott encounters are tardigrades, otherwise known as water bears. They're extremly small organisms that are known to be able to withstand the vacuum of space, IIRC. The point is, what Janet says in the after-credits scene only refers to what we've already been shown. It shouldn't be taken as something that hints to any sort of fictional/sentient creatures that live in the QR.
Can't wait for the sequel, Ant Wasp and the Man!
Wasp man and the ant
Or neither cause i killed Hope and Scott is stuck in the Quantum Realm
Or both cause nobody asked you, Thanos.
Didnt u die Cosmic
Nah, Thanos. I'm that one Chitauri who sucked at his job and let Nebula go. You're welcome for that.
Those creatures that almost ate Hank Pym are called tardigrades. They make a brief appearance in the first Antman movie and are a real thing, believe it or not! They are one of the few lifeforms on earth that can survive the vacuum of outer space and the heat of a volcano.
Hmm Ant man and smaller scale 🤔 makes sense
I think if it wasn't for the obvious budget constraints Ant-Man would be a much better fit for a tv series. I don't think there will ever be a large scale cinematic story for the Scott Lang iteration.
I think that Ant Man And The Wasp is more like a B movie, but Infinity War deserved an A
Oh the horror, she got dusted in this movie so that must mean we aren't gonna get the answers in a next movie.
Also getting the answers in a subsequent movie apparently now is a mark against it because we have to have everything explained right now, right?
So, how do you feel about Infinity War that didn't explain how everything will end in its own movie?
Yeah but infinity doesnt have any unanswered questions and amt man and the wasp was building towards all of that and imfinity war they werent Building towards anything like that
The things that attacked Scott are called Tardigrades and they're real animals.
Love these collabs. Glad you guys get to do your thing together on regular basis.
idk but am I the only who thinks antman and the wasp is better than the first one? The first one has a similar story structure as the first iron man film.
AGSA5 true. But it was a good heist film. This was filler...
AGSA5 No you're right. This one was ten times funnier. A comedy on par with Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor Ragnarok.
THAT ISN'T WEED SHAGGY no
Angel last name Wow, what a reply. Not even explaining why you don't think this is filler. You have to watch this to understand Avengers 4, that's what Kevin fiege said. DID SOMEONE SAY FILLER!!!!
THAT ISN'T WEED SHAGGY in that case u didnt explain why it was a filler in the first place
I thought it was awesome. I loved the action. I loved almost all of the humor. I loved the acting. I loved the movie. The Ant-Man movies are corny fun. Plus, I kinda ship Ant-Man and the Wasp. One last thing: I thought they explained that Janet absorbed some of the energy of the quantum realm.
Just watch it yesterday.. and it's definitely unfair that Ant-Man comes out after the avengers. This means people will just automatically see it as a step down. My only issue with it was the lack consequences/stakes in the movie. Felt like everyone got away too clean.. until the end credits anyways. As for Scott being "dumb down" I didn't feel that way, they definitely hold him back with the malfunctioning suit but I don't think they changed the character, but overall very enjoyable.
xISMOKEU13x it’s the perfect movie to come out after Infinity War. You go from the highest stakes to the lowest, it’s a good switch of pace
A bit disappointed with you guys. You always say it's better when writers give you the pieces of the puzzle and make you put it together instead of outright explaining everything to you. This movie did that! It is explained throughout the whole movie that Janet absorved Quantum energy because of the time she spent in the Quantum Realm and that mutated her body for it to adapt to the situation, that is how she survived all those years there, and that's why she says she is not the woman she was 30 years ago. Also that is why Ghost goes after the lab. She needs Janet's energy to restore her atomic structure but absorving it from Janet like she wanted to would destroy her. In the end, Janet cures her using the energy, but Scott still needs to go the Quantum Realm to get healing crystals for her because it isn't permanent. That is all explained, you just needed to pay attention and put the pieces together. I was able to figure that out ofr myself and so should you. That does not seem like lazy writing to me at all...
Saw it twice over the past weekend. I would give it a B rating not as good as the first but pretty good overall. I think more will be explained about the quantum realm in the next Antman movie possibly a bit in Avengers 4. I didn't mind the Ghost as the villain but I was hoping she would have actually came from the quantum realm and had escaped due to Scott entering and returning from that realm in the first movie. I felt her character development was a bit predictable and generic as to why she became the Ghost.
Shawn Kelly fully agree, I think it would've been interesting to discover that the quantum realm had people in it
Stuckmann, I love your work and reviews. Have you ever thought about collaborating with other (trying to be) up and coming reviewers on future discussions of films? I would love those type of discussions with you. You seem very in-depth in your reviews.
The Flickpick Stuckmannizer duo
The Flickmannizer
the post credit scene went right over both your heads lol
Yeah, every youtube critic I've seen has the said the same thing. If they call themselves movie critics, they should at least pay attention to what's presented in front of them.
max caton But the post credits scene doesn't make up for the whole movie it is only a small fragment (a few seconds). If that part of the movie is hailed as a better part of the film then that is not good.
agreed I just thought they only took it as a joke or pointless end credit scene but it was a little deeper than they took it for
max caton it wasn't that deep tbh and it wasn't the saving grace of the movie. That being said it was an okay fun film.
I love you Chris
Brayden Wormer HA, GAYYYYY
Love both channels. You two are an amazing team. Wish you guys could do more together honestly. Oh and can not wait to read your book Chris. Finally have time to read it. Work gets in the way lol
I love the movie! 8/10 for me. Still respect you Chris and John. But I think y'all guys are wrong. it's better than the Justice League IMO.
Yeah Justice League was very mediocre
Kush Patel Kush the CGI and special effects are better than JL alone, and that's a true fact. The villians in both films are weak
so?
to me justice league is like a D
Kush Patel Do you realize that the only reason WB brought on Joss Wheedon for reshoots was because the Snyder cut was said to be “unwatchable”? Pretty funny how you Snyder fanboys ignore this fact.
Kush Patel It’s not a rumor. The sources this information was reported from are legit and it wasn’t just one or two, but dozens of them! Why else would WB just randomly change directors in the middle of filming? 🤣 Talking to people like you is like going outside at night and yelling at the stars.
Chris can you do a Analysis on The End of Evangelion?
PD: Keep the good work man
I agree with Chris. It's definitely either a B- or C+ to me.
i actually liked the last scene, because it adds more of a realistic events of what is happening. Apocalypse is basically going down, the television transmission is out, people are screaming outside, and you just see this ant playing drums with headphones on. I read the infinity gauntlet comics and this small scene just adds more terror to the film. I would give this movie an 8/10. I liked Janet too, it was pretty emotional when hank finally gets to her, because it has been one of the main reasons for the 2 movies, so there is a sense of accomplishment. I liked Scott in this movie because there is no way he is trying to risk his skin because he cared about going back home and finish his 3 days before he is finally able to be with his daughter.
IMO this movie was great. So idk what movie these guys saw but again...imo I loved it.
folgore Its cool man. Different people like and dislike different things. Nothing wrong with that at all. Not everyone can feel the same and frankly I wouldn't want everyone to feel the same. Glad you enjoyed it!
That last end credits scene would’ve had a much better effect if it began with the ant playing the drums and then panned to the tv with the emergency announcement as the drums get quieter the sound of ambulances and police sirens are faintly heard coming from outside.
It was a fun popcorn flick. Nothing more, nothing less. I felt it was on par with the first Ant man (which tends to get overrated because of the comedy factor). Interesting way to avoid the biggest flaw in the first Ant man film, it's pathetically weak villain (Yellowjacket is only to Malekith or whatever the Elf was called, for the weakest villain of any Marvel film, making Whiplash seem interesting), ... by basically not having a villain. It was fun, and yes, inconsequential. *shrugs* I'd definitely say it was middle of he pack, but nowhere near as mediocre as Iron Man 2 and 3 (why do people claim IM3 is actually good???), Hulk, Thor Darkworld. TBH I even preferred it to GotG2 if you remove "Mary Poppin's sacrifice" from it.. was a complete snoozefest of a film). Cassie and the X-Cons were the best part of the film, though.
I really liked Ghost/Ava. She had a clear motive, and she actually showed emotions.
Chris and John, you missed the eerie background in the final scene (TV and people screaming) but yeah it is a throwaway scene but its not a funny scene... that belongs to a thriller
Great review as always, Chris. A lot of the problems you had is also what I had, but they didn't really bother me. I don't think they made Scott dumb or retcon his skills at all. In the first film he was shown to be an engineer with great acrobatic skills and can think on his feet. But that's the thing, he's an engineer. In this film, everything that Hank and Hope are working on is in a completely different field. Scott doesn't know anything about computer programming or quantum mechanics. The only thing he could have used his skills for is helping to design or build the quantum tunnel. But that's basically finished by the time he actually meets up with Hank and Hope. They actually do reference his skills when Lewis needs help in finishing some design plans for a new security feature in their company and Scott is the only one who can help finish these plans. So I think Scott is the same guy he always is and his skill set is intact. He's just in situations where they aren't really needed.
For Janet, yeah that was weak. It would have been great if to her it was like 20 minutes or something since time should flow differently in the Quantum Realm. But the issue would be the deaging effect. Unless they have a great effects budget, I doubt they could have made her look so young for the entire movie. I do wish they explain a bit more, but the whole glowing hand and her fixing Ghost didn't bother me. I just assumed that, like Ghost, Janet absorbed a lot of quantum energy and it changed her genetic makeup. I mean she was down there for 30 years. She even has that line where she says you adapt and evolve. So I took that to mean she gained some interesting powers and she was able to survive down there thanks to that energy. Thus no need for food and liquids. Mind you that's just a theory, but it might be what the writers were going for. Anyway, I enjoyed the film even though it does have a few hiccups here and there.
REMEMBER. Critics WATCH thousands of movies over the span of years. so they see the same thing over and overr. same ideas redone etc. whereass us, normal viewers onlly see a a few movies. so we enjoy movies a lot more than they do.
CrazyAGamers Or critics just know what a good movie is, and casual viewers do not.
Who are they to tell me what is or isn't a good movie? imagine sitting in a room and watch the same movie over a thousand times. would you, or would you not start to dislike it? critics are jusdt people who nitpick. and fans/cas viewers enjoy then. I know more thaan Chris stuckman about what movies I love or do not. I hope you don't blindly let a stranger tell you what movie is good or is not. that'd be stupid,.
Both Chris and thanos have been cursed by knowledge through watching a lot of movies
CrazyAGamers But Chris Stuckmann hasn't watched Ant-Man and the Wasp, Rampage, and Skyscraper a hundred times. I've watched Jurrasic Park hundreds of times and it is still a masterpiece. If I watch a movie a few times and start noticing their flaws then I can conclude that the movie is a flawed movie and not as good as I thought it was when I first watched it.
"Walton Goggins as guy in suit who wants technology" Idk why but that was hilarious.
C’mon chris and flick. I seen this movie with my wife and my 12 year old daughter. We laughed so much. They loved it. This was a good family movie. It’s just that in comparison it’s not as epic as avengers and it didn’t have the hype and cultural phenomena aspect of black panther.
It’s funny watching this 3 years later knowing more about the quantum realm
Or, they saved Janet's story for the next movie.
I really enjoy these colabs, you guys are pretty funny together.
Yeah, this one is right down there with Thor: The Dark World for me.
I love that this movie is self contained. It reminded me what I love about comics and they brought the inner child out of me when I used to be amazed by superheroes. Also the quantum realm stuff was so dope
I’m not saying this because I enjoyed the movie and I’m being defensive. I was listening to Jim Cornett’s channel, and he was talking about how these wrestling promotions shouldn’t be blowing their entire load at every single show. Otherwise the audience isn’t going to care as much anymore because they’ve seen everything you have to offer already. So you have your smaller shows, and build up to the big event where the talent is jumping off of cages, drawing blood and going for these big spots that make the audience go wild. Ant-Man and The Wasp is one of those slower shows.
I feel like a lot of the answers that Chris wants comes from Lawrence Fishburne's character's dialogue. They do briefly explain why Janet can cure Ghost and they do it in the post credit scene too. Also the time holes they refer to in the post credit scene (while an obvious wink to the plot of the next Avengers) also tell you a bit about Janet's time in the quantum realm. I'm not saying the writing wasn't lazy, but they did drop a lot of hints and what Janet was doing and why it's important to the larger marvel picture.
Also, I'm willing to accept Scott's "bumblingness" in this film due to the fact that we're supposed to believe that he hasn't been Ant Man (let alone been outside his house) for almost 2 years. Rust will start to form at that point.
It was a fun solid movie. Nothing amazing but a good comedic flick. I wish there was more action and a better villian (Goggins was wasted). I dont think this is very rewatchable tho. This is the type of movie you wait a few months to forget the jokes to watch again
You guys have a great and funny rapport. Hope we see more of you two together
I'm sure it may have been pointed out elsewhere but I do think that Scott Lang being a bit of a bumbly idiot sort of makes sense in context of his current situation in the film. He hasn't put on the Ant-Man suit in less than 2 years (which is an assumption), he is given a new suit from Hank that is also malfunctioning, and the moments when he turns giant are supposed to be more physically on him. Still, I would only say that Ant-Man and the Wasp is alright. My biggest turn off about the film was that it was too wacky for my tastes.
I love when you two are doing videos together!
I loved the movie! lol, but really I did.
As a marvel/ avengers world building movie id agree with a C+ but as an entertaining action comedy i'd say a solid B+. School scene, car chase scenes, majority of 3rd act, and that post credit scene was an absolute crowd pleaser
Imo the first ant man was good but was kind of boring up until near the end and I think people are forgetting how that movie was kinda boring
This purely negative discussion has clearly gotten an overwhelming amount of dislikes.
They did mention their positives but they meandered on the negatives because Chris couldn’t get into his negatives in a non-spoiler setting
MagmaAscending it was a joke comment anyway
I like how this is a spoiler review, but sort of a behind the scenes of how he made the non-spoiler review
“It was okay” that’s exactly how I reacted when I left the theater it was so meh , wish I kind of didn’t watch it, it was kind of a drag.
I saw the Eight Legged Freaks case. Review? With spoilers?
