It's feels so good watching young Africans come together, play their own music, enjoy it, celebrate their very own. @jakiiz jambeze Its so easy to convince yourself that your favourite country is better at these things, but the evidence shows that non-nigerians like the music and dances than the nigerians themselves. Abdi Farah: In this day and age of familism I see no problem in this video or they fact that these young girls are having fun on holiday. Ladies matters just like men - they are free to do what they want to do. If this video was about a group of young man doing exactly same thing I don’t think you’ll have the same opinion and that’s not ok. It’s called double standards. No hard feelings but Conservatism have caused more harm than good globally. I understand the identity crisis migrants face because am first generation migrant from West Africa. I did many low-key jobs to survive as a student & did some well paid professionals jobs after my masters before opening my own businesses. - being a migrant I not an easy path to choice- the odds are already well stacked against you but with determination, hard work & persistence you will succeed. You are facing a system that’s well designed for “LOCALS NOT MIGRANTS” . Migrants are Often without any family support and have to pay for everything you need to exist - the situation is even tougher if it involves parent & kids.🤔😒. For instance you’ll have to be able to prioritise providing for your wife & kids before thinking of fight tickets (which is usually very expensive per head) to take them home where they can witness and assimilate once’s culture first hand! I must say African music/musicians are changing perception globally. A lot of African cultural events are taking place all over the world and the kids are watching. The impact of these can not be over emphasised- it surely makes a difference. Trust me when I say I know - I’ve seen it all- from being a legal migrant to fighting for remain legal for over 5years- however at every lowest point a ray of light shines through to lead me through- that’s divine. The God of migrant is truly alive just believe and work hard. Some of these parents have been through hell from asylum systems that’s very tough to get through for some 5 to 10 years before they are able to become legal residence, so you can understand why not much emphasis would be placed on cultural identity. Personally, I make sure they eat Nigerian food & I speak “IGBO LANGUAGE” to my kids because am Igbo and they will speak better English than me anyway so why waste my energy on something they will naturally do better than me?🙂 It’s difficult to balance surviving abroad with having quality time to teach you kids about your culture though may parent do excellent job at multi tasking. Globalisation have come a long way and haven’t even started - even first generation migrants often face the same identity crisis and second generation migrants if the individual is not strong willed.
