During this webinar, you will learn how to model, lit, and add materials to a skyscraper.
Are you wondering how to make a skyscraper in 3s Max? In this tutorial, we show you how to create a skyscraper and environment in 3ds Max and Corona Render. Corona Render has recently changed its name to Corona Chaos, so feel free to watch this video if you are looking for information on Corona Chaos.
We divided the creation of the skyscraper visualization into 3 main stages - modeling the object, creating lighting, and adding materials + post-production.
We start the first stage of modeling a skyscraper by creating the building structure in the 3ds Max program. In the initial part of the tutorial, you will learn how to create an architectural structure using 3D solids. In the next stage, we will move on to creating a 3D environment around the skyscraper, in which we will use the green scattering technique (for trees). In this part, you will also learn how to create a street and water with a reflection and space effect.
After preparing the model with the environment, we go to the lighting configuration in 3ds Max and Corona Chaos (Corona Render). We will teach you how to scatter the spotlight and use the light system.
In the final stage of the skyscraper visualization, we move on to adding materials using Corona Chaos (Corona Render). At this stage, we will focus on selecting the appropriate brightness of materials in 3ds Max and the final render effect.
The final stage is post-production and polishing of our render of the skyscraper. To give the atmosphere of our architectural visualization, we go to the Photoshop tool, in which we will give a dynamic effect to the entire visualization.

That was very helpful tutorial.
To make it more easy to understand, here I have write down all the workflow procedures below.
1. Model skyscrapper (as main body) and make a separte copy to be used later at No. 7.
2. Set Camera perspective.
3. Apply "section" onto the "Main body" which is No. 1, & convert sections to "editable poly". Make a spare copy to be used later at No. 12, before converting it to editable poly.
4. Weld all vertex of "section" and apply shell modifier, which will give thickness to each floor.
5. Apply subdiv modifier onto main body.
6. Select all polygons of main body, and detach the top and down floors (roof and ground level).
7. select all "edges" of subdiv applied modifier (you will need to apply edit poly modifier) and detach "frame" also detach "glass panels", this part might be a bit tricky for new users.
8. Apply shell on frames.
9. Set Environment.
10. Corona scatter (to add details like lights and trees)
11. Apply Materials. (Water, Ground, Glass and Frames)
12. Add Corona Lighting using corona scatter.
13. Render.
14. Photoshop and there you go...
...

I dont know if it helps , but I saw a stream 2 years back and you had problems with FFD with plane objects or a 2d geometry , you can rotate it just slightly like 0.001 and the FFD well work .

Isn't Arnold already apt enough for renderings? Why do all studios and UA-camrs are hellbent on corona and vray?
Is not that Arnold isn't good enough. The problem is that because Arnold is an unbiased renderer, is very slow compared to V-Ray or Corona in CPU rendering. Time is money, the easier to get images the better.
