  • Welcome to the Episode 2 of the second series of High Street Histories featuring illustrated conversations between historian Ivan Bunn and writer Dean Parkin, this time exploring Kirkley & the south of Lowestoft.
    Episode 2 looks at Turret Corner, known by many locals today as Tuttles Corner. It tells the story of the town's first purpose-built department store, and what happened to the turret in July 1964.
    Each episode of High Street Histories will have an accompanying worksheet, ideal for young people age 5-11, which will be available shortly from - www.historicengland.org.uk www.poetrypeople.org www.thinklowestoft.co.uk
    Filmed, created and edited by Dean Parkin, featuring archive photographs from the Jack Rose Collection, the Bert Collyer Collection and from Ivan Bunn. The opening credits also includes contemporary footage of Kirkley filmed by Joshua Freemantle.
    High Street Histories is a partnership collaboration between Historic England’s Heritage Schools programme, the London Road Lowestoft Heritage Action Zone, Poetry People and Ivan Bunn.
