where would the country be without it's farmers doing all these things to help our community's..........i had a text yesterday from my horsey neighbor saying can you come up with your tractor and pull my horsebox out of the field
Morning Andrew, sorry to see the decimation of your farm, we had a tree fall into our garden and stuck the house, thankfully only the smaller limbs struck, has smashed loads of tiles, bought down gutting, smashed some windows, gas meter box door and manhole cover Like you say no one hurt so a positive Take care Geoff
Glad you are all safe. Shame about the barn at the out farm but as you said it might have been worse. We had a rough ride on the Isle of Man but I think you took the brunt of the Storm over there.
Be thankful Last February one of the best farmers I know lost his life in a storm where a roof flew off a shed. He tried to beat the storm to protect his cows. His wife found parts of his body mixed in with parts of cows bodies to the point where initially they couldn’t determine if 360 cows turned in a lane and trampled him and the tail end of the herd or flying debris caused the damage. It turned out debris of a shed roof found over 100 metres away caught in fallen trees from him was the cause. Paramedics needed counselling after they arrived describing the scene as though a bomb had torn apart his body and those of his cows.
That’s a sad story. Could have happened to myself at the weekend with 40ft sheets from neighbours shed 300m away one fit to cut through an average sized tree
I think a large number of farmers are going through the same thing you guys are, lots of damage and lots of repairs to be done, just drove around and inspected a couple of out farms and we have a lot of trees down which is not a problem really but almost every one of them wiped out 10 or 15 feet of fence so even repairing the fences is going to be a lot of work over the next few weeks. Still no one or no beast was hurt so can’t really complain much.
That 4th cut looks nice, would have expected more waste actually :) Shame about the roof on the outfarm, but i guess if the wind hits just right it would take down even a new roof. Definatlly something to consider for the future, to put some extra money on the roof if you are building a new shed :)
I've cleared a lot of trees off roads past 2 days in co. Antrim and have yet to spot a department of infrastructure employee or any of their signage around all of these road hazards! What do they actually do for their wages?? As Stormont MLA's are only just back from their 'winter break' I ask the question, what do they actually do in there? In most cases I've been involved in past 2 days, its amateurs trying to clear dangerous hazards off the highways. Planting tall conifers on the sides of the M2 was a great idea!! In Germany trees aren't allowed to be planted within 60foot of a highway.....this country is a shambles Andrew🙈🙄
Did you notice any difference in your silage when you had the two different covers- oxygen barrier and black cover to when you used the one where they were joined together? Was the result the same
Pity about your silo removing the roof would definitely be the cheapest option use the money for a shed at home hope you recover from the man flu it's not pleasant ☹️
Can’t help but feel that £20k (for the outfarm roof) would be better put toward the roof over the machinery park next to the silage pits on the home farm
Week done clearing the roads Andrew. Btw you're not citizens or persons you're people but you'll have to look at that for yourself. Citizens, persons equals corporate.
Glad that you Andrew, your family and farm staff are all safe

Glad you're all okay after the storm!
Great Video, there was quite a contrast between the joy of the silage compared with the frustration of the storm, thanks for sharing
3:15 “Where’s Calvin…?” 🤣 Should be a your slogan 😂
Auch sure... it's Andrew that does majority of work. Calvin's just a slacker..!!😂.
(Messing Calvin, lol)

Yep we all count the cost of damage. But we’re lucky when Only money it costs.

Another great video. Keep the chin up. It’s only a bit of tin.
It can be fixed!
Hope you are covered by your insurance.
Good luck with the clear up.😊
Nasty enough clean up job ahead.lucky we have nothing else to do…
Should have told Calvin to sit on the silo roof to protect it ☠️
We'll just blame Calvin. It's his fault😂
😂😂
Plenty ventilation for the cattle now the buliders prices will all go up now 😂

I agree. It's depressing where our nation current is
Keep.up.good.man♥️🇬🇧
Poor Calvin 😂😂
Andrew hope all is well since the storm…
Good stuff
Glad you enjoyed
Thoughts on the Keenan paddle mixer are more efficient on diesel and mixing time, but quite big for their capacity.
No idea, I have used about 600 litres so far!
@FarmTheoryNI that sounds a fair bit of diesel, how long have you had the feeder? And one load a day?
The extra meal cost versus buying maize silage would an interesting comparison. Maize could have been fed to milkers only
Know what your saying about the film on the silage pit. 1st roll we bought was 90 odd quid doesn’t need to save much to pay for itself
Hope you are insured! 😬 Just got myself the same camera as you after hearing farmer Phil raving about how good they are! Wish I did a long time ago! 🙈
They are great!! Just a bit fragile.
@ I paid for the insurance 😅 but I can see the gimbal getting snapped at some point
Roll roll roll!!!
What are nie at getting the power back on up around your area Andrew .
How did those bulls from red house get on are the calves any good?
Very very impressed. Both great looking bulls and nice calves.
Did you notice any difference in your silage when you had the two different covers- oxygen barrier and black cover to when you used the one where they were joined together? Was the result the same
DEFINITELY use both. The two in one sheet wasn't good.
What a pain that was.
I'm 54 and when rolling back the cover don't puff and get on like that 😂😂
I'm very dramatic. 😅
Pity about your silo removing the roof would definitely be the cheapest option use the money for a shed at home hope you recover from the man flu it's not pleasant ☹️
Have you found Calvin yet?😅. Glad everyone and stock are all OK.
How did the Tractor Rally go,were you the lead Tractor?
Can’t help but feel that £20k (for the outfarm roof) would be better put toward the roof over the machinery park next to the silage pits on the home farm
I agree, probably what happens
What's are your mats made of on the 4th cut please?
Looks like old mattresses from cow beds
👍👍🇮🇪🇮🇪🙏🙏👌👌💪💪👏👏
What wind speed did you get?
Forecast said 80-90

You mightn't feel the cold as much,,
