You have a very good way of explaining things. You sound like a person talking to someone who is across the table. Great job and God bless
You forgot to mention there is app for the NVidia Shield that you can use it as a remote control or switching app.
-Apple TV 4K for Streaming (Bsst box that handles HDR and Atmos in the most Streaming apps) (This is the best Box for most people)
-Nvidia Shield for Streaming local UHD Blu Ray rips (This is the only box that can do this properly in an atmos setup)
-Roku Ultra - Closest to the Apple Offering and strong alternative
-FireTV (These are the cheapest and great for older TV's when you do not care about HDR or Atmos as the support is spotty) (Alexa integration is great)
I have 3 boxes on my AVR
- ATV 4K for streaming (This is the box the family uses)
- Nvidea Shield 2017 for my Blu Ray and 4KUHD Blue Ray rips. (I only use this for Movie nights when I want best Quality HDR, Atmos etc.)
-Fire Stick 4K To run Ultra HD Music via Amazon HD Music service. I use the voice remote to call up songs so I never have even see the video menu but I can if I want.
The point of that rant is all 4 boxes have their tricks so decide what you want get the best box for you. If the price is not an issue most will get an Apple TV 4K and call it a day but if price is an issue just get any of them that support 4K even if your TV is not 4K as the support of 4K means the processor will be faster and even people with older TV's will benefit from faster navigation and app loading and FireStick 4K's are about $30.
Thanks for the video but if I’m not mistaken the Roku Ultra is the only device that allows one to stream from an external hard drive, via the USB port, which say contains mp4’s, or other media formats.
nvidia can stream from internal storage or from a NAS device
Thank you
What game titles can't you play on the shield tv? I haven't found any that won't work with a mouse and keyboard.... Not to mention the shield has launchers etc. I also believe there's a way to get apple TV working on the shield as well. I find the shield tv to be the most intuitive and customizable of any android/Apple box. That being said you have to know android to get a lot of this stuff to work.
The nvidia shield does have a touchpad of sorts as the volume is controlled in the center by touch
Hi Christian,
This may be a bit of a moot point but I’m going to mention it anyway if you’re in the UK and you’ve invested a lot through Sky Store in terms of digital purchasing of movies and TV shows instead of Google or iTunes it may be the way to go especially if you don’t have or want a sky subscription to watch your purchases on the big screen.
Again as you’ve stated and as I agree with it just depends on the individual circumstances of the individuals and what platforms they use on a daily basis, daily drivers and stuff.
Christian, i have some mkv shows and movies on my computer, i know that by nvidia i can put in an external hd and plug in usb, but on apple tv can i play them? since there is no usb input?
Hi Cassiano! I think the best way to do that on the Apple TV is by setting up your computer as a Plex server. Then you can stream to your Apple TV from your computer using the Plex app. Your computer has to be on, but it generally works pretty well!
@@techbandicoot ok, but the plex is disponible oficial app on apple tv?
Yep the app can be downloaded straight from the App Store!
@@techbandicoot tanks, you prefer this apple tv our nvidia shield?
I think it depends! I personally prefer Apple TV because I use iPhone and Mac, etc. if you use Google products Shield TV is better!
I have both Roku for bedroom and NVIDIA Shield for my living room. Both are great but I have to mention. The remote control on Nvidia shield is garbage. I got a defected one when I first got it. Now a second one went bad. Planning on getting a universal one.
I’m sorry you got defective remotes! I’ve had mine for a few years and still works great!
my problem lately with Roku Ultra is some shows have "choppy audio" - i tried restarting under settings and even unplugging and plugging it back in - didn't work - i may try Shield
I had a similar issue with R. Ultra. I have switched to the Shield. In opinion there's a reason Roku is a 4 letter word. LOL
If you wants less options than go with Apple or Roku,I have Nivida shield, I love ❤️ it because of the chip it has.the features it come with I do more than streams games like most people. You can add external storage ,the other two product are limited to
What it can do .mom always said you get what you pay for
Martin Phillips except it doesn't support Dolby vision.
craza holic Yeah you right, but the average person like me , isn’t looking for this special feature .
Martin Phillips I think the latest version does support DV. If that’s true then I’m getting it too. Lol
Apple TV 4 does not support Dolby Atmos on third party apps like Infuse or Plex. Shield TV is the best choice.
Nvidia cannot support app vudu for movie 4k..
But apple tv can
@@fadhilharon5489 Apple is shit dude.
with roku can i watch content from my computer?
The Roku Ultra has a separate Optical audio output.
Great tutorial! Please make a video on the transcoding capabilities of the shield running plex media server.Try to play a 140mbps (bit rate) 4K HEVC 10bit colour file from jell.yfish.us at 720p, 1080p etc. really want to see if the nvidia shield is capable of transcoding 4K. Does the nvidia shield come with a free premium plex pass? If yes, for how long is the pass valid?
I don't believe it does come with a free premium Plex pass but I could be wrong on that -- it's been a while since I set up the device.
Ugh. Roku ultra all the way. Simple cheap and fast. My setup has my tv connected with an hdmi cable that goes all the way to a female wall port i installed next to my desk so i can connect my computer or anything else i want with little effort.
irregulargamer13 it doesn't support Dolby vision or atmos. Neither trueHD. It sucks
@@crazaholic7978 oh no. I cant get a slightly better picture off a 50 dollar device that lets me watch youtube and netflix. Look buddy if i want good quality movies ill have the videos playing off my computer or bluray player.
irregulargamer13 it’s the 21st century buddy. There is no reason to deliver less for the amount they are charging per unit. And you are not getting full potential of the streaming services you are paying for as well. I have three Roku including ultra. I’m waiting on them to upgrade their features if not screw them. It is cheaper compared to shield but you get what you pay for. They even advertise DTHD on their settings but no one knows how it supposed to work. It’s poor business practice.
best players. worse comparison. Apple tv can bring up a keyboard on your iphone when you need to type something? wow. Roku has a fully functioning tv remote on the phones. you can literally throw out your remote and still be ok.
NVIDIA Shield TV this product and the company are just garbage. when the warranty expires and the product has software problems, no one can help you fix it. nvidia support comments: throw it in the trash, we can't help you
If you have half a brain it's gotta be shield it's so flexible you can do pretty much anything you want not to mention Kodi ... emulation....ESfile explorer. The list goes on its a beast👍
@Tech J 37 not 4 me it's not I can do anything I want open ended operating system it's far more flexible can't be fuked with apple
@Tech J 37 apple just not versatile os useless to me quality is amazing media players are better codec support networking and file sharing has to be seen to be believed so no good to me at all I can go to any website and download any file can expand the storage massively for next to nothing usb ports etc so not 4 me I know apple is good quality but no
@@iandrain.7277 Who can be bothered with all that? I tried Kodi long ago and it kept needing updated and all links broken. Some of us just want to turn on our tv and watch a show. Don't want to mess about setting up pointless things and stupid UI tweaks.
@@philmcclenaghan7056 each to there own
but the new " shield " is in the shape of tube and you cant connect usb with it.... which removes many possible.
You know if LG supported HBO Max I wouldn't have to search these kinds of videos. What a joke.
Don’t forget the shield just updated none of the other do I have a Apple TV and no it’s not the NVIDIA shield you can install anything i have two of them
this sentence makes no sense
@@xxdarkknight lol
I think it's a complete lack of punctuation! I think it translates to - this user thinks Shield is the only one that updates, and that you can install anything on the Shield...?
The Shield, just updated.(Do not forget)
The other streaming devices never update
You own the Apple Tv, not the Nvidia Shield
You own 2 of the Nvidia Shield.
You can install anything on the Nvidia Shield.
I'm not much of an Apple person but Apple TV's interface makes the others look UGLY!
Except you can change the actual interface on the Shield to look even better than Apple's interface just by downloading a custom launcher on it lol. I don't think many people know you can do this.
@@darrellm9915 You know what? I never thought of that but it makes perfect sense cause it's Android.
@@yaynative It's pretty awesome in my opinion. :) You can't really beat the Shield in terms of being able customize everything to your own liking, and you can just do so much more with it overall. Even though Apple TV is nice too, it's just a lot more restrictive than Android which is honestly a huge deal breaker for me.
@@darrellm9915 But the moment I buy the Shield, Google will finally release that Chromecast-like dongle that finally comes with a remote (so probably runs Android). I gotta have that thing.
Terrible
