  • Miami is best known for its luxury lifestyle, Latin-infused culture, and as a popular tourist destination. This four-part documentary series focuses on Miami's most notorious ghetto 'Liberty City,' documenting the struggles, the failures and the successes of Liberty City locals. Watch this raw, uncut four-part series that captures for you aspects of Liberty City life: how things go down in the hood, violent shootings, police corruption and the drug epidemic.
    Director's Note:
My aim in producing this Documentary series is to give the people of Liberty City a voice.
Though currently known for its Bad and Ugly aspects, there is also much Good in Liberty City; and the words "Hope" and "Never Give Up" remain strong in each individual in the City.
    3rd Episode:
We visit Poonsville and the historic Hampton House where Muhammad Ali, Aretha Franklin and other black celebrities and entertainers used to stay.
Please share on all Social Networks.
Episode uploaded every week. Watch, Subscribe and Enjoy!

The glorification they give about the struggle is crazy to me. They're not talking about how their trying to get out the struggle. Their talking about how they cheat, take, thug & steal to take care of themselves, their family, & their "circle". Even if someone decided to come through to help this community, they would be scared as hell to even help! Crabs in a barrel. Pulling each other down. Nice cars but house look like a trap, crack & shed houses. 26 inch rims, tvs, video games, & custom sits in your car can go towards a down payment on a house- OUT OF THE STRUGGLE! smh We gotta do better.

I'm probably the only one watching in 2019 but sis you speakin the truth. I'm a project baby but also first generation college grad. I was raised with this shit. Mama and daddy both r.i.p but they glorified this shit. I was different. I refuse to let my kids glorify this. I make it my business to continue to rise above my circumstances. I respect where I'm from but I also keep pushing forward for more. I choose to break the cycle of poverty. I'm from the mud but I will not stay in the mud you feel me.

One of the only things I don't like about the depiction of cities like Miami and others, is that they either show you the best parts... or the worst parts. When I tell people from Miami and what part I'm from they go straight to thinking I was raised in the projects. Like there isn't a middle class anywhere. But I guess that's the aim of the media.

    • @GamerGee

Come up in an area like that it's all you know. Most young poor people who now have jobs that provide a decent income will spend most of their money on clothes and shoes and cars. They want to feel good about themselves and it's what they have seen on people that in their eyes were doing well.

I believe its circumstantial. My father sold drugs & I have never done drugs, nor chose a path of life to pursue them in interest or by force. Every street hustler is not all bad; my father provided for us the best way he knew how when other things didn't work out best. He wasn't violent, but I'm sure he took precautious, protective measures for the streets. I'm college educated & my family has long moved from the 'hood' in Liberty City. I just believe ppl do what their circumstances allow.

Toward the end of the vid, an older man talks about The Hampton House. Blacks weren't allowed to stay on Miami Beach during the 60's, so they'd stay at the Hampton House. Well, the man said that they are restoring the Hampton House and it will be used as a Historic museum type place, that'll chronicle Black Miami's history. Muhammad Ali, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway, and Sammy Davis Jr. all stayed at the Hampton House, at one point. That segment was the GOOD.

Those of us born into slavery accept it as a fact of life. It matters not whether the slavery is urban, suburban or rural, it creates its own story and we adapt - something we do very well. Of the few seeking a way out of this trap, even fewer will succeed. For the few seekers I recommend "How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World" by Harry Browne. The book made a huge difference and assisted my escape from slavery.

ANYBODY who stays in poverty and says it's because they are "having trouble finding good jobs" where they live simply does NOT have a "good education". They may THINK that they do but a "good education" would include several things including the knowledge and confidence of how to pick up and go TO the "good jobs" or even better how to CREATE a "good job" regardless of where you are.
Anyone who can't do that ...does NOT have a "good education", just a facade of one and needs to study MORE!

The Gentlemen at the ends shows some of the root of what we see today in neighborhood like theses, centuries of racism and being starved out economically.

Racism and discrimination is a bad problem in the USA. I am originally from the Caribbean. I lost everything because of attacks against me by racists. My ex wife was Hispanic and her mom (Rose Fredericks) who had black in her was racists against blacks. My business fell in Miami by acts of a racist Judge (Marc Schumacer) who was Jewish. My business on wall street was attacked by a racist Jew (Hal Shaw, 10 Hanover Place, Ny). Before all this, when my daughter was just a newborn, my Management job in Miami, I had to leave when a racist name Ed Cunningham continued harassing me. He became the comptroller at Canam Associates in Miami Lakes 16095 NW 57th Ave, Miami, Florida... and the owner would not stop him because the founding partner wanted to promote me to a partner. A cuban woman named Maria Garcia who worked for me at the warehouses on 5100 NW 167th street, Miami, Florida... joined the attack against me and she even told me that I was hiring too many black people there. Well, they pushed me out of my partnership and now she is managing. She later rehired one of the former black employee as a part time as her cover up of being a racist. I can clearly remember being threatened by a grpup claiming to be white power ran by Dean, the boyfriend of Alise Bergamo in North Miami, Florida and even had to deal with a man name Alan Jack Small of lauderhill Florida who tried to intimidate my family members as he impersonated a Fedrral Agent which he even stated at the Broward Court in front of Judge Peter Dijols who did not allow him to succced with his nonsense there as he did in front Miami at the racist Judge Schumacer..... ken Ramnath, Director, Celine int'l, Inc Wall street, NYC... ken.ramnath@gmail.com

You have kids, but you spend your days hanging out in the alley? And the cycle continues. And did you hear that fool rapping that he could have bought a house with what he spent on that huge necklace? I am glad he does not live on my block. He could turn the whole neighborhood just by moving in.
