Wonderful escape
Great instructional. Catching your arm with your thigh and getting their elbows elevated over the head works very well in all sorts of kimura positions. From top half guard, I can do a kimura from this defense when they far side kimura.

When the bad guy on top then you has no chance to escape . This kimura is 50/50 if you not laying on your back

Thanks for the video, but at 0:59 why does bottom open up his guard? He could have used his legs to keep you away from him in closed guard so that you can't drive into him to get his arms above his head.
It's just a demonstration and I imagine he wasn't thinking about stopping Tom from doing his instructional. But Tom's leg stepping up creates a little bit of an angle and with good top pressure it tends to pop the guard anyway.
