❤I like this song Chakaniraja in Karaharapriya raga rendered by the great maestro Dr. Yesudas. What a voice, what a song, what a raga and what a singer. It is a pleasure to listen and gives me so much peace of mind that I cannot imagine. God bless. ❤
Your description is truly apt ! This is one hell of a rendition... I have listened to this infinite times and continue to listen even today... Thanks for making it available online...
This is yesu das. A human being beyond religion....a dozen of carnatic music. Let this be a reminder for the small minded right wingers. This is our south Indian culture, spiritual and divine...
The mightiest of the maestros rendering the mightiest of the ragas....awesome awesome....no more words...the maestro and the raga made for each other or rather one trying to challenge the might of the other...the rasikas are the ultimate beneficiaries of this test of might between the two....Music is bliss...or rather with pride i can say the Carnatic music is....Shri Yesudasji the god's gift to the rasikas of the Carnatic Music.....Pallandu pallandu pallayirathandu vazhga neevir.....
Yes, sir. This is truly an excellent performance by KJ Yesudas. Same here. I too have listened to this so many times and of course thought that it would be nice if this could be heard by other Rasikas all around the world. :)
The song "Kali ghodi dvar khadi" from Chashme Buddoor (1981) too is in Kharaharapriya - sung by DasEttan and Hemanti Shukla. Quite obviously, it is not comparable to Chakkani Raja
I think Khara was a Rakshasa- Asura. Khara Hara means One who conquered or killed Khara. So Khara Hara is Shri Rama-Vishnu. This Raaga is perhaps very dear to Shri Rama & Vishnu.
Khara and Dooshana were the brothers of Shoorpanakha, who held court at janasthaana and attacked Shri Rama and Lakshmana on the banks of the Godavari. Another view holds this prefix comes from the katapayadi numbering scheme - the Harapriya (dear to Shiva) ragam is the 22nd melakartha and has the prefix kha-ra to denote the position 22.
Chakkani Raja Ragam: Kharaharapriya (22nd mela kartha) Arohana: S R2 G2 M1 P D2 N2 S || Avarohana: S N2 D2 P M1 G2 R2 S || Talam: Adi (2 kalai) Composer: Tyagaraja Swami Pallavi Chakkani Raaja Maargamulundaga Sandula Dooraneelee Oo Manasaa! Anupallavi Chikkani Paalu Meegada yundaga Cheeyanu Gangaasaagara Mele Charanam Kantiki Sundara Taramagu Roopame, Mukkanti Nota Chelage Naamame Tyagaraajintane Nelakonnaadi Deivamee Yituvanti Sri Saketa Ramuni Bhaktiyane Meaning: O mind! When the spacious royal path to salvation is available, why should you take to by-lanes? When nutritious creamy milk is available, will anyone think of detestable toddy Ð Gangasagaram? When you can feast your eyes on the ravishingly beautiful form of SRI RAMA, when LORD SHIVA is eternally chanting the name of SRI RAMA, who has condescended to grace the abode of Tyagaraja, why should you resort to devious and labyrinthine paths instead of the royal path to salvation?
The geniusness of St tyagaraja in composing can be clearly understood in this keertana. Chakkni rajaamargamu undaga sandulo duranela manasa, here the saint thinks of himself, meaning that when god Sriram is. With him why he should think of others. 2. Chakkani raja maargamu undaga, sandulo duranela manasa here the St. Asks Sri rama, the raja, not to go sideways ignoring the prayers of the saint. What a Melody?

I wish there were a dozen yesudas. A single example is not suffecient.
