I still wondering why so many people actually weren't fond of LALALAY. It's my favourite Sunmi song. It's the anthem of being different when everyone around you follows the crowd. Even as a baby, I was different because teletubbies made me cry and metal music was the only music that would make me sleep. I'm good at drawing, especially butterflies. I had been drawing butterflies in a proffesional tattoo style ever since I was 12, and one of my teachers started calling me butterfly because I was always doodling them with my head in the clouds. LALALAY literally shook me because it felt like my anthem. Even the way the crowd started copying her in the end even though others ridiculed her for it first felt so relatable. I dyed my hair crazy colours before K-POP got huge and dip dye became a trend, got ridiculed for it. You still managed to keep it concise yet maintain the essence of each reaction. Great video, and yes, you were mostly getting the meaning of the songs with a message. Let me give you some info on her as a celebrity. It should be noted that Sunmi is a celebrity who, despite her immense success, has faced a lot of hardship and negative commentary from the general public. Assumptions on issues with self-body image and eating disorders have been popping up due to how she's seen on camera in shows/concerts/TV, as a result of body shaming and slut shaming. When she gains weight people call her too fat and when she loses it people call her too skinny. It's not just her who goes through this sexist treatment, but it's worth mentioning considering she keeps going and doesn't end up radically changing her image or quitting. If you watch her on variety shows you'll see how she's been shaped into a model idol celebrity by her experience and company training, (going with the flow-being obedient-following up on reactions and fake laughter-playing nice) and despite that fact, she still yearns for self exploration and expression, breaking taboos and expanding her image and sound beyond what's expected. She's also one who has been working with a lot of the same dancers since the start of her solo career, not sure whether that's her own choice or decision, but it's worth mentioning. Last but certainly not least, she's openly expressed her support towards the LGBTQ+ community in concerts after being asked if she's part of it, essentially declaring she's an ally. People are torn between her resorting to doing it due to pressure of her agency or her actually being a true ally, but regardless, she still openly declared her allyship, which is a good thing.
Sunmi is so talented and hardworking! She originally strived to become an idol because her father was ill and they had a lot of medical bills to pay in addition to his lack of income. She has two younger brothers she helped to take care of, too, until she left to be a trainee and her brothers had to try to take care of their dad. I don't know what was exactly wrong with their dad, but he had to be hooked up to a breathing apparatus and was bedridden. Her dad died a few months before her debut, unfortunately.
Sunmi is the best! I agree about Pporappippam being the best song! I was (& still am) obsessed with it. I know I watched a Korean reactor who mentioned it was better translated as "shining purple night," as it was supposed to be like a best nostalgic night. I love how much you noticed Sunmi's acting! Two more solo artists to look into: the mellow, often jazzy stylings of Heize, and the powerful fierceness of AleXa. How's that for a study in contrasts?

she's a legend
Sunmi is so talented and hardworking! She originally strived to become an idol because her father was ill and they had a lot of medical bills to pay in addition to his lack of income. She has two younger brothers she helped to take care of, too, until she left to be a trainee and her brothers had to try to take care of their dad. I don't know what was exactly wrong with their dad, but he had to be hooked up to a breathing apparatus and was bedridden. Her dad died a few months before her debut, unfortunately.
sunmi's discograhy is unmatched
the reason i stan this man ✨ REACTING TO ALL MY ULTS👑
pporappipam definitely deserved more recognition
"I do not like this song, but it has me singing it" SO REAL OMFG
Sunmi is the best! I agree about Pporappippam being the best song! I was (& still am) obsessed with it. I know I watched a Korean reactor who mentioned it was better translated as "shining purple night," as it was supposed to be like a best nostalgic night.
I love how much you noticed Sunmi's acting! You'd provably like Hwasa of Mamamoo!
Two more solo artists to look into: the mellow, often jazzy stylings of Heize, and the powerful fierceness of AleXa. How's that for a study in contrasts?
