Interesting setup! Thought about something like this myself . Nice work! I'm honestly surprised a lot more drummer orient their hi-hat closer to their snare like this.
Thank you. It's not as drastic of a change as some may expect. The hardest parts of this are snare mic placement and rolling left (if you even wanted to add toms that way). It's really comfortable to play and with a rack and a remote HH, you could do it for $30-40. It might be a little more complicated without the rack but do-able. Check out Harry Miree's set if you haven't. He has a video where he shows how he did his. More involved than mine but was a road map.
I like your playing a lot - the sound quality was a little distracting. I think a few mic placement adjustments might help but..that's all secondary stuff. Your playing is what matters and that was great. Thanks for posting and keeping the drumming community on YT active :) Did you have the snare miced individually? Either way, try some EQ to try to get your sound a bit less muddy.
@@Peteski510 Hard to explain completely without writing a book but..... I just record practices so it isn't a situation where I can get everything completely right before each song. You can tell if I am wearing the same shirt for a series of videos, it was all in one sitting. Additionally, the set up I have creates mic placement challenges that I didn't expect but accept. The snare mic needs to be tucked just right or I get a lot of HH bleed. The tom mics pick up a lot too. How I hit for a particular song also plays. Too hard and it peaks the mic. If I blast the drums and cymbals, sound quality suffers like the snare picking up too much in the floor mic.
Thank you. It is super comfortable. I went on this kick about a year ago to try and get everything more ergonomic. When I was younger, I could play for hours with no issues but it gets more complicated the older you get. It's not as drastic of a change as it looks and the hardest part about the kit was rolling left and/or rolling left and right. Thanks for the view as well!
@@DrummersKey You look really comfortable playing. I started as a drummer way back, but can't call myself a drummer today, even though I play sometimes. But I hit harder, not as comfortable. Watching you was actually helpful for my own drumming.
Hey, I went to look at your drum videos to critique your playing and awwwwwwwwwwwww, there aren't any. If you can one-take it better without practice, post it.
Sick! You should enter the iRock Drum Contest!
Thanks so much!!
Chris , you did a fantastic job on this cover. Great song choice Josh Freese is a great drummer. You rocked this my friend!
That means a lot coming from you Joey. Thank you.
Awesome performance here bro
Thanks a lot!!

That sounds awesome bro! Very Well done 👍
A near perfect song.
Kit sounds nice. Danny Carey inspired high hats 🤓

Thank you for the constructive criticism. All of the drums are mic'd individually.
@@DrummersKey might just be the room/mix. anyways, thanks for the upload

Sure, this is nicely played, but I have to complement your setup. Looks great, seems more ergonomic than a lot of regular drum setups out there.

@@nedim_guitar That is a very nice compliment. Thanks again.
Sounds good....
Seems effortless for you rather than you look unenthusiastic. Lol
HAHA!! Thanks so much for the view and the comment.
Unenthusiastic. Also the snare and floor tom fill was a bit overplayed.
