That wooden tube is called a penstock, it is fed from toketee lake just above where you were, it travels just beyond and goes threw the mountain in a tunnel just short of a mile long where it exits and goes down hill into one of the toketee power houses, the water is then returned to the river. As someone who has grown up in this area you missed so much more to see that is not on the maps but i know how it goes. Safe travels
Sweet hearts, the further north you go, the more mosquitos. Get some good natural bug spray and use it. It might cut down the swarms a bit. The bugs are the worst around early July as the snow melts in the mountains. Later on, as the forest dries out, it gets better, but then, be prepared with reports on wild fires. Welcome to the PNW, y'all!
Welcome to my home state guys! Yes the mosquitoes are out. Sorry it’s part of Oregon. The coast should be much better for you guys for the temperatures. We normally camp July through September on the coast so we don’t have to worry about the temperatures. There’s some amazing little cities along the coast. I would highly recommend starting at or around Newport and work your way to Astoria. Yes everything is full this time of the year. State parks do have last minute spots available that are first come first served but at a cost and time. Because you have a rig that allows you - there’s plenty of off grid places that are in the woods all over Oregon. I’ve always been able to find a spot even when everything is reservation only. I’ve stopped by the rangers stations last minute before to find someone who can point me in the right direction. Almost every country has a ranger station and can be found in google maps. Every time I’ve thought I was going to be out of luck I ended up getting a spot. Also note that Oregon State parks have last minute reservations every day online starting at 4am pacific time for any last minute cancellations. Fort Stevens is one of the biggest campground’s of the Pacific Northwest. You can try that campground in the early morning for a spot. If you use their webpage, you can do a general search of an area as well.
Another beautiful video! But it makes me sad. You travelled all the way to Oregon and didn't go to the most beautiful lake in the world. Crater Lake. People come from around the world to see this wonder of nature right in my back yard. You really missed a gem. And there's plenty of snow up there to cool you down! Maybe your next trip. Plus, you showed up during the height of an unseasonably warm weather pattern and the start of the mosquito hatch. It's typically not that bad with skeeters as the summer goes on. Blessings on your travels!
HELLO , ENJOY CRATER LAKE OR 101 COAST LINE , BEWARE ALMOST ZERO BOONDOCKING OREGON COAST . HEAT WONT LAST BUGS WILL . HWY 20 has more falls n bend cool too.
Cody you are SO cute calling your wife Toketee 😍🥰 I love coastal Oregon where you can experience some amazing waterfall action! That pasta dish looks SO yummy! Thanks for sharing guys!
Yay FINALLY!! Our hone Washington ❤ You’re just south;) Was just up in Gifford Pinchot National Forest today Near Mount Adams. I’m so glad you’re here!!!
I think it is so cool that you use Essential Oil bug spray 😊 I created recipes for an entire "First Aid Kit" including recipes for Bug Spray, Sunscreen, Bed Bugs (whichI use for any hotel stay), Bruise, Burns, Blisters ( before and after they pop), Bug Bite, Briken Bones, Chapped Lips, Inflammation, Pain, Stress-A-Way, Cuts & Scrapes, Burns includibg Sunburn, Bruises, Fever, Bee Stings, Cramps, Bleeding, Headache, and Massage Oil. Wow, that was fun to inventory --- thanks Kelly :)
New Sub here! WELCOME to our beautiful State!!! Definitely head for the Oregon Coast there is so much to see there and it’s way cooler!! Oregon Coast is my happy place! I’m an Oregon native and love the Coast!!💜 Love your Chosen shirt God Bless!!!🙏💜
Kelly, made your veggie fusilli feta pasta recipe! So delicious and so easy! Threw in some chopped Klamata olives and garlic cloves! Thank you for sharing!! 🍽️❤
Hi Cody and Kellie, welcome to the PNW! If you come to the Olympic Peninsula in WA, we have some great MTN bike riding. Port Gamble has the Forest Heritage Park, and west of Port Angeles is the Olympic Adventure Trail which you can access off Hwy 112 on your way to Joyce. Both have fun trails that are not too technical.
This is my old stopping grounds and one of the coolest places I have ever visited. You were very unlucky with the mosquitos in summer 2023. We did not really have much snow the previous winter till March and we got hammered, which caused the mosquito population to explode. I have camped in that area my whole life and it as never been as bad as it was summer 23
I've seen my fair share of waterfalls but for some reason those are absolutely magical looking❤❤❤❤ Thank you for sharing your awesome adventures once again❤❤❤
If you hike above Multnomah falls, and go the opposite direction of the falls once you get to the top of the trail, there's several other falls further up the trail you can swim in.
Watching this a second time. That pasta dish looked so anazing. I knew you would find a spot.I am making German shepherds pie, as Jack calls it. Mashed potatoes, seasoned ground beef, finely chopped celery, onion, carrot, garlic, brocolli, and cheddar cheese. One with a crust, one without. Mm mm good!
Beautiful water falls!!! Glad you made it to PNW safe!! Have lots of fun, see marvelous things and don't forget to share with us!!! Thank you for a wonderful video!
Hello from Sandpoint Idaho! Glad you are having tons of fun in the Pacific NW. The waterfalls are spectacular! It is fun to watch the cooking process. I have been liking cooking again. You guys are really doing good things. You are teaching people all kinds of things as you make vlogs. Even things like how sweet a compliment is.....or how Cody loves trees and walking up creeks....or the way that you go through life with positive attitudes and focus on the good things, and appreciate. Safe travels!
Cody you’r right. It happens every year the flies/mosq come in FORCE after the snow melts. Intense stuff. It’s also warmer then usual in OR. We know you’ll both make the best of it 💚.
There is a ThermaCell type product on the market that you can clip onto your clothing. When I used to hike in the woods, I would clip it on the back loop of my jeans. Works pretty well. Can't remember the exact name though, so.
I know it’s touristy but Multnomah Falls near Portland is beautiful! You can hike to the top but it’s a tough hike. The restaurant was really good when we ate there.
The falls are each as beautiful as the next. Such a beautiful area. America has so much variety and beauty in that variety. It’s amazing and sad what we so often take for granted. Arugula with a sweet fruit like pear and a bit of sweet dressing is awesome. Give it a try!
Lovely falls! We've been to Toketee Falls and I even did a painting of it. It was such a neat waterfall. 😊 Oh! And I love Bend! We did some hiking around there at the end of November a couple of years ago. It's so beautiful. ❤
Beautiful falls! The first time I visited Oregon I did a home exchange which worked out great. Unfortunately my visit was in mid July and they were having a heat wave in the Hood River area. It was 103 the day I arrived. Each day got a tiny bit cooler, but no hiking was done. There was no wind at all so the wind surfers were bummed. Finally the last day I was there, the wind came! You are going to love Bend!
Oh, those mosquitos, and did you know they have found a few cases of malaria in the US? I'm sure it's treatable though... Beautiful falls! Great Video!!
Another video I watched said to wear light color clothing. Happy 4th to y'll. The falls are great. Look at the big ferns growing under the bridge. I love spiral noodles.
Try Picaradin for the mosquitoes. We live in Montana and used deet based sprays for a long time. Picaradin has been just as effective without the hard chemicals. We found it in Honduras and haven’t looked back.
Welcome to Oregon, something in Oregon you won't find in the midwest are chironomid's or midges which *don't bite*. They look like mosquitos to mid-western folks but they are not. In Southern Oregon, especially close to Crater Lake there are millions that swarm at dusk and will pelt vehicles when you drive. Ask locals, store workers if not sure. To me watching the video it looked like you might be encountering midges, not mosquitos.
Just a few years ago a couple of guys on MTN bikes were attacked near Bend. One of them died. Most of the dams and hydropower plants in the west were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. They built so many that conservation groups are removing the ones that aren't serving any good purpose so the salmon and steelhead can return to their ancient spawning grounds.
New subscriber here, and you two are just adorable! I just found your channel today and am binge watching your vlogs. Have fun in the PNW. Your neighbor in Missouri. It was 93° today and humid 🥵 Happy 4th of July! 🎉💥
We are having unusual heat here it’s not normal that’s why head to the higher points like Hwy 12 from I 5 east takes you to sone beautiful heights ;) Also our Johnston Ridge observatory on Mount St Helens is closed for a year due to land slide So head to Mount Rainier and climb for cooler weather - :) Sending positives for you both to love our PNW 🎉❤
Very relaxing!

I plan to travel to that area in early September to see Crater Lake. Would you mind sharing other things to see in the area?
Beautiful!!

You are exploring my favorite part of the country☺️. Lived in Eugene for almost 20 years and did lots of camping ...

Toketee Falls is my favorite place, so beautiful, so cool and it looks prehistoric. Love your channel.

😁 My best summer camping 🏕 memories were at Smith River Falls on the Coast of Oregon 30 miles east of Reedsport!! 🌴 #davesandersstepdaughter
Hwy 138 is how we get to Central Oregon from our OG HS.
Thanks!
Thank you!

Sounds great! 😋
If you’re looking for a place that has lower temps, look into Mt St Helen’s the Ape Caves. Lots of history, lots of things to see.
