I take Metformin ER, extended release. I find it very helpful for me. Controls blood sugar well, with very little side effects if any.
Besides me going from drinking 3L of soda a day along with horrible eating habits, I was able to bring my A1C down from 11.2 to 5.4 over the past couple of years. I dropped down to 7.2 within the first 3 months of taking Metformin.
I never knew about any of the side effects, because I've never had any. I recently was off them for 3 weeks because of a prescription foul-up and my A1C shot up to 8.2 from the low-6 range. As soon as I got back on it, it dropped down to the high 5 to low 6 range. It works for me.
But, all the meds in the world won't work with people still treating their bodies like dumps. Garbage in, garbage out. Eat right, stay active and the body helps those who help themselves.
so do you have to take metformin for life in order to not let your A1C shoot up to 8?
@@freddychico3621 I was off Metformin for almost a month recently.
My A1C remained relatively low without it.
I will be seeing a specialist to see if I can get off of them now.
Great question.
Metformin has worked great for me for over 30 years...no side effects and good blood sugar control. I will soon be 79 and am hoping the longevity effects which are being studied prove to be true.....I take 2x1000mgs daily......
@@robertstancliffsr9575 Thanks a lot for that firsthand experience. It gives me great confidence to know that if l had to stick with it, chances are I'd be okay. 👍
My Metformin adventure started 8 weeks ago. My weight has dropped from 210lbs to 190lbs from Sept/22 to Nov/22. I'm not pre-diabetic, so I'm taking it off-label. Motivated after studying Dr. David Sinclair, (my son said we should be guinea pigs and do this experiment} taking Berberine, Resveratrol, NMN and practice regular intermittent fasting. He is doing it for longevity to live to 150 years. I am doing it NOT to extend my life but to reverse my biological age so that I have the cardiovascular performance, physiology and hormones of a 20 year old cyclist, yogi at the age of 100 years. I take Metformin rather than Berberine as Metformin is David Sinclair's first choice before Berberine. My target weight is to lose another 30lbs to get down to my college weight of 160 pounds over the next 3 months. I regularly fast and eat OMAD (one meal a day) and am active every day either cycling or yoga.
@naeemravat how is it going did you get down to your goal weight?
VERY informative. Thank you.
I never take any diabetes meds, i was told i was diabetes 12 yrs ago..so instead of take drugs, i stop eat carbs, sugary stuff, stop doda, stop smoking, and walking 5 miles a day helps too. Im 65 yrs okay now, not on any meds not even aspirin, and doing just fine. I never get sick, except once i awhile i get runny nose but that about it. I ate whole foods and drink water. Oh, my only drug is black coffee in the morning 😅😅.
smart person
Good for you!! Perfect
Inspiring, thank you!
Thank you
There is nothing wrong with helping yourself . You don’t have to stay on them forever if you can use other lifestyle changes but also nothing wrong with getting help . Don’t do what I did and let the years go by and do nothing.
Yup, I did the same thing. Thought I didn’t need anything
Same here, it ended up in a keto restrictive diet, hey the drugs there to help as long as you’re trying and need help nothing wrong with itc
That's the basis on which I have reluctantly accepted after making some dietary changes but not enough to control it.
I hope to be in a better position in the future to reduce dosage.
I really want to try this because the anti psychotics I take cause hunger. I'm getting kind of fat.
The best choice
So why it's on recall now?😢
Is a question: is Metformin first choice for diabitis having also liver cirrhosis ?

Please change your eating lifestyle to more of a keto diet (it does not have to be too strict ;-) Plus add regular exercise, walks daily etc. I would strongly advise that you don't take up the easy/lazy option and swallow pills to treat your many years of unhealthy eating and lifestyle. Change YOUR life today. This is by far the healthiest option for you in the long term and will quickly achieve the same results without possible symptoms or side effects from taking Metformin. I tried the keto diet 4 years ago and made a commitment to increase my weekly exercise and it has proved very successful within 3 months. Great results. I only wish the very best for everyone reading this. Check it out the cause of diabetes x
Type 2 diabetes isn't always caused only by lifestyle my mom and dad both were diabetics so n it is genetic not everyone that gets diabetes is fat either so for b you to blame diabetes on only lifestyle is just wrong
I stopped Metformin I couldn't leave the house unless I took the toilet with me, I took that for a long time and the diarrhea never stopped, asked the doctor they changed to the 500 2 in the morning and 2 at night, that's not living because I was dying from Metformin, I do insulin because I needed
Way too high of a starting dose 250mg once a day is what doctors should be starting with and then titrations up.
how about doing a low carb diet and possibly get off all meds?
@@wab_ just took my first pill yesterday and im glad I was home, I'm doing IF omad so I'm worried if I can take the first tablet in the morning on an empty stomach as I only want to eat one meal and that's dinner. The idea of being told I have to take it for the rest of my life didn't sit well with me when I asked the nurse how long I should take it for and I believe if I lose the weight and eat well I could stop reverse it.
Safe? What about B12 Deficiency?

Taking metformin for 35 years, 2x1000mgs daily. Just had my B-12 checked (again) and it is midway in the :normal range. I do take a B-12 supplement because, why not.........
Our medicate first "heathcare" system is reprehensible. Pills forever. Disease has been normalized and monetized.
What would you suggest for type 2 diabetes that does not respond to lifestyle changes?
There is nothing 'normal' about diabetes.
Why do you think the average human lifespan is the longest it’s ever been? Modern medicine, hint hint !!
@@Nick-yl8qw amen
@@Fomites maybe the lifestyle changes you di weren't sufficient enough to get off meds. I'd highly recommend doing a low carb diet + intermittent fasting.
Yo.... So you eat several carbohydrate meals a day, which puts loads of sugar in the blood. Then you take Metformin to assist insulin to push the sugar overload into the cells. There is a simpler solution, and that is if carbs are being resisted, don't eat them. We do not need carbs and all the glucose we need can be made from fat. Eat fat for energy, not carbs, and watch your glucose kevels go back to normal, your insulin level go back to normal, and you'll start to burn your body fat. Also... eat one meal a day, (possible when eating fat because fat is very satisfying) as this rests the liver and pancreas and enables them to heal.
Your body cannot synthesize glucose from fat. Fat gets converted to ketone bodies which can fuel your cells like glucose. Your body can make glucose from protein, however. Intermittent fasting is also good advice but the reasons are a bit more nuanced. Fasting will deplete glycogen (stored carb) in the liver and force your body to burn fat instead.
@@y.shrestha6936 gluconeogenesis converts fats to glucose. it also converts protein to glucose if you eat too much protein, not if you're doing a low carb diet.
Completely agree with your comment. It is also true that Metmorfin seems to revert insulin resistance, which means that it could be beneficial in reverting years and years of bad eating habits, so it may make sense to take it, even if and when you make changes to your habits.
I never took a diabetic drug. I was told I was a diabetic 18 years ago. I did my study on Metformin and it is something that diabetics should not be taking. for the 18 years I have fast. Also have taken herbs and vitamins. I do not eat after 6 p.m. my A1C is 5 and a half. My eyesight is perfect. people who I have on Metformin have gone blind and lost limbs. I have had friends die from years of taking metformin from complications of diabetes. Again as a diabetic I have never taken any type of diabetic medication in 18 years. I have perfect eyesight my A1C is 5 and 1/2. Without this medication.
" people who I have on Metformin have gone blind and lost limbs. " I think your friends with incontrolled BS' lost limbs from the ravages of diabetes not Metformin. WoW your comment is so wrong. Now being used as an anti aging drug.
@semmie. I disagree. Metformin has helped alot of people. You are so wrong on this one
I'm so glad being so young that you did your research on this drug . Your smart young lady. People should do the research before they take anything that there Doctor 💊
Me at 56yrs old and I did my research just like you have done. I don't take anything that the doctor says ( research on all my pills)
Nothing but love for everyone Amen FREEDOM

It’s the diabetes that causes the blindness and limb amputation, not the metformin bro.
Metformin can cause nerve damage!
Show us the facts.
False
I stopped taking it as it was doing a lot of bad stuff. Its not reccomended to be prescri ed anymore.
I was taking 4 metformin tablets a day and my blood sugars were still sky high. I find the injections much better but I’ve got to buy mine privately. It certainly is not a miracle drug, it’s a very old drug and it’s cheap. We need the weight loss jabs for free!!
no thanks. after doing some more research, I think I'll keep my kidneys if I ever develop diabetes I'll find some other way to treat. this stuff is horrible for the kidneys.
Stop spouting nonsense
