Nice pattern. I'm tying a few to fish the upper Green in WY next weekend. Here's a tip/alternate (and I think easier) method for wrapping the hackle. End the dubbing wraps with bare thread behind (hook bend) side of the post; invert the fly in the vice so it's pointed close to straight down then wrap down the post and whip finish around the post instead of returning to the eye. Much cleaner and you don't have to mess with rearranging hackle fibers. Any renegade fibers can be trimmed out after you whip finish.
Just wanted to give you a Huge Thanks!!! Your videos has really taught me a lot. on fly tying. FYI your videos are GREAT!!! These are filled, with so much info, and background info on the fly. Keep them comming please :) and Great going and work man!!!
Shaban85 You are correct! One tasty little tying nugget that might go unnoticed by many. Watching Matt do it while I was shooting, I'm thinking "what heck is doing?... oh I get it now". Makes you wonder just how many of those little tricks he has stashed away in the archives.
tightlinevideo Exactly, and since i have to tie small (size like this trico) black ant parachute patterns for this part of the seaseon, will save me a lot of time, no more wondering if the hackle will go unraveled.
Could you do a review of your tying desk if it's not to much trouble? I've been trying to organize mine and a review of yours may give me some cool ideas.
Zweimas If you want to use CDC puffs as a post on this fly, that's a good option. Just tie it in with the tips forward (about a hook length long - bend to eye), stand them up with some wraps at the front base, and then wrap the lower portion just as I did in this video. - hold the post with one hand, and wrap with the other. The stem of the hackle will help stiffen the post so it will wrap fine. MG
After watching your light Cahill video with the Bondic parachute I'm thinking you could the same with the Trico, right? Have you tried Bondic parachutes in sizes 20-26?

I just bought one of those super cool hackle pliers a couple of weeks ago, it's fast becoming my favorite pair!
George. What are those hackle pliers? Something that doesn't let go of tiny genetics would be a blessing.
Once again the best video tutorials on UA-cam! Thanks guys!
Greetings from Bulgaria!
