- GM's early-2000s European supermini was a best seller in the UK and for very good reason, but does its refinement and ease of use make it dull?

My corsa c is the finest car I’ve ever had, I’ve only spent about £600 in the 11 years I’ve had it on brakes , exhaust, crankshaft sensor, and a few bulbs blown , it’s now on 132,000, i oil change every 6 months, new filters , it’s a monster of a car, oh, and I only paid £500 for it, and it only had 31,000 on it. My bargain of the century
My parents had one when I was younger. I remember it as a well build car. I would always wash and clean it, many memories
I guess GM knew their market well. I worked with a lady who had passed her test in one and she wouldn't buy anything else. There you go, customer for life, probably. Good to see you out and about again, with added wind.
My friend had one for 15 years and never went wrong!
Still got mine today, had it for 6 years now. Solid as a rock, has got me up and down the country and sat at 70mph on the motorways comfortably, paid a grand and its paid me back 10x over with where it’s got me, love it.
In Denmark they rarely came with A/C, but fully specced with safety features. My Corsa C had 6(!) airbags, ABS, active head rests, electric heated mirrors, but no A/C. They never came with less than 4 airbags, and I find it crazy that it only came with a driver's airbag in the UK! I had the 1.7 DTI, and it was hard to kill. Did 500'000 kms in it
I’m in the U.K. and mine is one of the single air bag ones. Definitely not reassuring 😂. Still a laugh to drive fast though
I wouldn't have one but it's certainly the last Corsa before they got too big and bulky to be considered "small cars"
The newer ones not only feel too big, but also so inefficient when it comes to their packaging!
The saxo models are alot nicer including vts/vtr and much more rare. You never see any saxos now.
Really? They are bloody everywhere here in Greece. In my town alone there must be at least 20 and I'm talking about all the versions.
@@jt-hb8lh Nope don't see them here anymore
Interesting. I had atleast two friends who had saxo vts's (one tuned and one mostly stock). Although mostly tuned both the saxo and the vts are still pretty much everywhere. I do admit however that 106 gti 's are rare.
Wow what a detailed, fully featured and genuinely very good review
Thanks mate, that means a lot ☺️
I rented one of these for a week back in about 2006, I was visiting the UK at the time as I’d been living overseas for a few years and I wanted something cheap that I could pick up from the airport on arrival and drop off on departure. I did a lot of miles in that week and by the time I came to return the car I’d come to like it a lot. It was good on fuel, fast enough for long motorway journeys and easy around town, the luggage storage was adequate and it didn’t rattle squeak or groan as I’d expected it to.
It is a perfectly adequate car. It's designed for a purpose, and it achieves it.
Absolutely.
Absolutely nailed it. Suits a lot of people perfectly fine.
They sold these in Australia as the Holden Barina. I own a 2002 3-door in good condition, with the 1.4 engine and 4-speed auto. I've had it for nearly 3 years, and love it. It's a great little car.
I'm a proud owner of one of these. Corsa c sri, massive community behind them. Easy to work on, we mostly buy them to put in a b204 or a z20let in them
This was the first car I drove after passing driver's ed (2001 Opel Corsa C 1.2 Comfort). I'd say that, for the most part, you got this review right (judging from my memories from back then). Here's my take on things:
The cupholders are terrible. It was a guarantee that any water bottle I tried to put there would fall very quickly, and the one on the glovebox was too small. It almost feels as if they were added just to tick a box on a checklist, and never tested at all. "Cupholders? Check!"
Regarding the headrests: I recall having three back there on the car I drove, but I could be wrong on that.
Regarding the interior: Mine didn't have that fancy trim in the middle, the radio was an older version with no CD player and it had no steering wheel controls. It was a sturdy interior, but boy did it look dull. My current Mk7,5 Fiesta feels like a Mercedes-Benz S-Class by comparison, when it comes to interior design.
Regarding the engine sound: I completely disagree. To me, that was the best part about the car. I revved it up whenever possible just to hear it. Lovely sound, by far better than the three-cylinder Dacia I drove after that. That close gearing affects fuel economy, though. Not that old me cared too much about that part, though...
Regarding the steering: I couldn't agree more. I remember getting into my driving school's Clio and wanting to take the car home with me, based on its steering feel. It felt excellent on 70 km/h roads. The Corsa's was very soft, by comparison.
Regarding driving excitement: old me could drive just about anything and feel excited about it, but I remember that it handled decently. It was no Nissan GT-R, but decent enough for some spirited driving.
Overall, answering your question: the Corsa C had a very dull interior design, a decent exterior design that could be improved significantlly by customization, and was fun to drive (despite that steering feel). That doesn't make it a bad car, though. It was well engineered, I have to say.
Thank you for making this video! It brought back some old memories, that's for sure.
Thanks mate :)
@@TwinCam You're welcome. :)
Installed leather seats in my corsa. Then put pop out cup holders in the middle of the rear seat too. Got it on Irmscher wheels and a load of other mods. Still an absolute turd to drive and the steering is more of a suggestion 😂. Brakes get hot and don’t work after a while and the worst part is no damn cruise control. Wish mine had it but it’s only a low end spec. It’s going soon and I’m gonna be a lot happier cause I won’t be fixing it every week 😂
well said, I would give it 7 out of 10 score.
Woah! Twin Cam 2.0! Still everything that's great about your channel but with added production value. It was like watching the best sort of car reviews the old Top Gear used to do before they went mad and decided to become a comedy show.
Great stuff Ed!
Thanks Phillip, that really means a lot 🥳
Totally agree. It’s content like this that makes UA-cam so great.
I ve owned my 06 corsa c 1.4 sxi for 12 yrs now. Love the thing.
To my mind, cars can be put into 2 groups. Cars for enthusiasts, and cars for people that just want comfortable, reliable and cost effective transportation. The Corsa C is clearly in the second of those groups. And I have never understood why they have been slated so much for that. In general the motoring press seem to be only interested in enthusiasts cars. Most people just want a car as transportation. Another great video. Thanks.
That's about right.
Thanks again Richard :)
These were good little cars. Every one afterwards just got worse. I had a corsa D and the only words I can use to describe it would be unbroadcastable.
Passed my test in one of these, and nearly bought one of them six years later. A car that does everything and has a model in the range for everyone.
I had one last year, a 3 pot 1 litre, it sounded good, good on fuel, cheap on insurance, but I think the interior leaves a lot to be desired.
The exterior is well designed though, but dull? Just a bit.
I mean if you tell a seasoned Petrol head you own a Vauxhall Corsa C, for some reason they just say “oh right, ok” and then move on to something else!
Great video though Ed and you certainly do your homework.
Thanks William :)
I think you could just about be the next Matt Watson from car wow.
Matt if your watching please give ed a job at Car wow he is amazing
That is a massive compliment
This is now my favourite channel.
Thanks mate, that means a lot :)
There's nothing wrong with a corsa, they get their bad name through chavs "modding" them really badly
Great video Ed....loved the "let's start with the doors" edit 👌
they're great cars. its nice to see one that hasn't been modified
My first ever car (originally my mum's) was a 1.0 active with electric heated wing mirrors, a/c, the works. Wish I still had it tbh, I bloody loved that car.
Top video Ed.
Loads of friends had the SXi version which seemed to be one of the most popular versions.
When I went to work for the company I still work for in 2003 the girls who worked with us had these as company cars with the 1.7 diesel engine which in such a small car made it almost quite nippy away from the lights.. I do remember surprising a few town racers when I borrowed one and leaving them in a cloud of black smoke..
Thanks again Paul :)
I had 3 of these. The best of the bunch for me was the 1.7 CDTI with a DTUK Tuning Box. Decat and Pipercross Cone Filter. The thing flew and could stick to the tail of a Corsa D VXR.
Fond memories.
A well flowing video there Ed!
I love the out and about videos, trying to recognise where you are....makes me feel home sick, not been back for a while.
Ormskirk boy living in the southwest!
Aww thanks mate ☺️
I have a Corsa D which followed this model. They made it a bigger car but I think mine has an identical 1200 cc engine to the one you are driving. I think it is slightly under powered especially if I try to overtake anything. It gets me to work and the supermarket though which is mainly why I bought it. The dashboard seems more or less identical to the car your driving.
Like the video?! I love it! You’re driving! Adds so much to the video. Well done! Great looking dash. I don’t understand why car makers skimp so much on the seats. What could be more important than the chair you’re sitting in? For me, The best seats I’ve ever sat in were in my 93 Nissan Sentra (Sunny?) SE-R. They had simple adjustments, grippy velour cloth, great bolstering. And wings at the top to hold your shoulders in place! All in a cheap car...brilliant!
Thanks Jeffery :)
I had a 2003 SXi also with the 1.2 as my first car. And like you said, it's a great car. Nicely styled, well equipped, well put together, frugal. And the short ratio gearbox meant it was kind of nippy. I never loved it, but I couldn't deny that as a car, it was really good.
Halfway through the time that I learned to drive, one of my instructors changed from a 1994 Corsa B 1.4 (82 bhp) to a 2001 Corsa C 1.0 (57 bhp). The first impression was the lightness of the steering, the first car I ever drove with electric power steering. It was very basic, but not really tinny, and was quite revvy, although not fast. Visibility was excellent. Many years later, my former housemate finally passed his test at the age of 27, and got a 2006 Corsa C 1.2 SXi. It had the same Twinport 82 bhp engine as this one. I never liked the gearing, the acceleration was strong, but turning over almost 4000 rpm at 70 mph in fifth gear was just too much. The gearbox reminded me of the Corsa B as well, being a bit long in the throw, and not very nice to use, but definitely easy to know if it was in the right gear. Modern Vauxhall gearboxes are much better. The SXi had additional features over this one, such as seat height adjustment (which transformed the level of comfort, as the steering wheels do not move at all), a passenger's airbag and remote central locking. The Corsa Cs had the issue where water would leak into the passenger footwell if left for any length of time, and this one was no exception. General Motors used to give driving schools a healthy discount on Corsas, which is why they were so popular, I think. Excellent review, definitely livens things up a lot if you are able to go for a drive!
Yep, this one has a height adjusting seat, which is why it can somewhat compensate for the lack of steering column adjustment.
In terms of the water leak, they all do that, sir! (including this one).
@@TwinCam, ah yes! I thought that one would probably leak as well. It is a bit unpleasant. Oh yes, having the seat height adjuster is much, much better than not!
4K at 70 is very annoying. Mine tops out at 112 ish and it’s at 6300 revs at that speed. And it doesn’t handle well over about 80. It’s great around town though. Can be in 5th gear at 30mph
I had a 2006 Corsa SXi+ from 2013-17 with the 1.2ltr engine with a body kit & low profile alloy wheels, it had the half leather comfortable seats, electric windows but not a/c. It was very good on petrol, easy to drive & cheap to maintain. I did over 50,000 miles in four years & it always started & ran well. The boot comfortably took my two medium sized dogs with the parcel shelf removed. It’s the longest I ever kept any car. The downside was lack of creature comfort extras on long journeys.
It's good that you translate your video, I intend to buy a corsa and this serves me a lot, greetings from Mexico
We've had a 1.4 SXi from new and love it. Great little car.
Fantastic review Ed. Great to see you behind the wheel. I haven't driven one of these but I did drive the 2010 corsa, I wasn't keen on it.
Thanks again :)
I don’t think there is really any bad small cars from Europe. This is very popular first car or great shopping car. Easy to live with and easy to drive.
Great to see you driving something. Good start.
Great video! Brings back memories of my first corsa with that engine. Completely agree with the agricultural engine.
I've always had a soft spot for Vauxhalls. They seem to have paid more attention to 'ergonomics'. Things are where they should be. Your hands fall naturally to the controls, no need to stretch, twist fiddle or look, for where they are. This unfortunately, cannot be said for French cars, where function is eclipsed by form. This lack of 'quirkyness' unfortunately makes them appear dull. I think you are right that they appeal to those, who are not neccessarily petrol heads. You just get in it and go somewhere, without fuss. But I admire the engineering and thought that's gone into them.
Vauxhall is opel and opel is german
...and Opel is PSA. PSA is French.
@@TwinCam Which probably accounts for the more quirky features on new models. Electric hand brakes etc.
@@TwinCam PSA is the parent company. It is still is a german brand.
Ooh Ed.. You've upped your filming game, I think you did a great job, flowed very well, camera angles, sound was good with the new mic too, well done. 👌
Haha thanks Adam ☺️
Many great things about your videos Ed.
The most important thing for me is that we get interior views.
Modern car commercials don't often do that. Most of the time they don't even seem to be about the car!
Thanks again mate. 👍🏻
Thanks again mate :)
Good review. Your spot on with how you review cars
Cheers mate ☺️
I have the Opel Corsa C 1.2 Twinport which I guess is exactly the same car as the Vauxhall Corsa mostly.
It's an A to B car and the plus point is mainly that it's cheap to own. Tax, insurance, low fuel consumption and for spare parts mostly.
I have airbags for driver and passenger, electric steering power, electric adjustable and heated rear mirrors, AC and ABS and some anti slip function I could be without.
I live in Stockholm and can't see any reason to have a big fast car with big engine and high costs for tax and insurance. What's the point when you spend half the time in
queue anyhow?
You can turn off that the cd/radio starts when you start the car. Just took me 2 years to find out :).
In Sweden we say "Lagom", meaning: not so good but not so bad either.
That's Opel Corsa. Lagom.
So, it's perfect for a Swedish guy. :)
Always remember an old friend of mine had one, lovely little cars and if I hadn't of come across a decent 206SW I would have definitely got one of these as my possibly stereotypical first car! Do always remember her passenger side seat had a metal bar running through it, not the most comfy for duration! Was a Turbo Diesel, was pretty nippy too. Great video!
So much cleaner than mine XD i got 2004 only thing i hate about the car lack of cup holders
Ah thanks for the throwback for me, my learner car and subsequently my first car 🚙! I think most 00’s learner drivers would have had driven a Corsa! The car that I learnt in had adjustable steering, I think it was an option but most cars weren’t ordered with one. I loved the steering wheel mounted audio controls and the 2004 one had the older stereo which didn’t come on automatically when the ignition came on. Simple car for simple times :)
Thanks mate ☺️
Another great video mate. You can stop the radio coming on all the time, in the stereo setting on the CD30 btw lol. 👍🏻
You can stop it, but that also means the radio won’t go off when you take the key out! 🤦♂️
I really like this shape Corsa. Alongside the Mini R50, and to a lesser extent, the Fiesta and Clio of this generation, the Corsa is still a regular sight here on British roads,
You more than welcome to test my corsa SRI 1.8 C.
Its completely standard.
I always said the door close noise sounds like a transit🤣
It’s good enough for me and apparently this one somehow seems more basic even though mine dates back to 2004 and it’s a 1.0 and it’s black and I think I made the right choice it certainly works very well and you just showed how well made this really is especially for something quite basic but I noticed this one actually has manual mirror adjustments the ones on mine are actually electronic so I guess mine isn’t quite as basic as it seems but I did have to replace the radio as it came with some kind of radio you’d get in Halfords but I replaced it with its original radio it would normally come with
Drove a Corsa Combo recently and was very surprised by how much I liked the little thing. 1.3 turbo diesel! Switchgear felt positive and the instruments are a great design, with the usable speeds right in the middle of the dials.
Much preferred to the PSA vans.
I have the corsa twinport 1.4, love it!
My son's got a 1.2Twinport Design on a 05 plate.
His first car. Taught him to drive and pass test in it.
I'm reliving my teen years by pimping it up for him, he's not into cars, put SXI seats and the white speed, rev etc clocks and front bumper with fog lights in/on it.
Redone all the brake lines and am getting Corsa alloys on soon.
Cured the infamous footwell leaks(thank the maker for UA-cam vids) and now he's got Aircon (standard on the Design) and SXI add-ons. Upgraded the stereo to a cheap Chinese touch screen flip up, also changed the internal dash lights to green LEDs.
Nice vid btw
My brother had an 05 plate 3 door 1.2 twin can as a coutesy car in 2005
My friend had a 54 plate 5 door 1.3 CDTi in 2013
They are not cars for driver enthusiasts, they get the job done and that is what they were designed for
A fair, balanced and well edited review - job well done 😊
I have a Corsa C that i'm rebuilding. I'm gonna have a 3,2 V6 in it soon. A really nice and cheap car with good quality!
watching this because tomorrow I'm going to take a look at an automatic one. Might just become my first car.
Did u buy it?
@aysea1977 No. My first car ended up being a 2003 Mini cooper. Sold it abot 6 months later.
@@tomi210210210 Oh ive always wanted a mini cooper they are really pretty! i have a corsa c now. What car do u have?
Another good video I do like a vauxhall being a proud owner off a nova this is the first time I have seen you driving another vehicle besides Melvin is the corsa we see in the back off your other vids
Thanks Paul :)
Yep, this is the Corsa from the background of some other videos, and the 'modern' plate I held up in my number plate video.
A great looking little car and a great review as always
Cheers Craig ☺️
Same when I was a toddler my parents had these cars and I would enjoy it
I have an SRi which in Australia were badged as Holden Barinas. It's a great car.
I learned in one. My first one was a corsa b and after a corsa d i went back to a 1.8 corsa c.
Best corsa ever have an Audi but absolutely love this shape in black as well
I've got an 04 1.2 energy 5 door. Pretty good car apart from poor seats and can't get a really comfortable driving position . Drives well, nice engine
I passed my driving test about 3 to 4 weeks ago maybe and I have the 2003 5 door elegance model in turquoise, and I have already done 1000 miles. It's a bit of an all star, you can have fun and get some wheel spin and throw the car around corners but its sensible when you need it to be aswell
👍
I had 2 of these.
The range was facelifted in 2005…the one in the video is a twin port so is a face lifted model.
My first was an early 2000 3dr 1.2 Base spec.
The other was a facelift 2005 1.2 SXI 5dr.
The trim is a little better on the facelift and with a sporty finish on the SXI…different gear lever, steering wheel, better front seats. Despite being a 1.2 like the Base model, the SXI was more sporty to drive mainly due to different gearing.
The poverty spec I had didn’t inc ABS, whereas the later model did. I recommend getting it with ABS….big difference in an emergency despite still having the same disc/drums.
Steering….the pre facelift had regular electro-hydro assistance whereas the facelift got all electric steering…..be aware, the electric type used in the later models is WORSE…devoid of feel, and more prone to fail. The steering was the main reason I got rid of it.
I also test drive a pre facelift corsa 1.4 2002 automatic (proper automatic not the semi EasyTronic system) which made a lot of noise. Very disappointing. No auto lockup?
I also had the opportunity to drive a 2000yr 1.0 Yaris and 2002 1.3 Yaris….those maybe more reliable, but they are way smaller than these corsas & in manual form the Yaris is horrible to drive - like a car 10 years older.
I actually like the styling, centre stack definitely reminds me of the Saturn Astra (Opel, Vauxhall), especially the radio controls.
I assume most purchased this to get to point A to point B without fuss, hence the compromises you pointed out.
Another brilliant video, and observation! Thank you very much!
That was the 'family' look of GM Europe interiors of the time!
This is my Mum's car actually, and I remember seeing that link when she first got it. My Grandad had a Vauxhall Astra a few years before.
@@TwinCam I like your Mum's vehicle, it still looks fresh, modern.
And I truly like your videos, hence why would I subscribe? I have! I like learning something new every day! Stay safe young man!
I live in the US so we never saw the Corsa even as a rebadged model. Too small, I guess. I did drive an Opel Corsa for a few days around the south of France and northern parts of Spain back in May 2005. I found it to be competent and easy to live with, more than roomy enough for 2 ppl. Not a bad effort at all, but yes some of the cabin plastics and electronics are obviously well out of date these days. This video brought back some good memories for me!
Cracking little car, but the bulkhead water leaks, around the brake servo, are a pain in the @rse.
Interior never was VAG quality and they are noisy, but they don't rust like the Ford's.
Although slow, I loved the sound of the 3 cylinder engine.
Corsa Breeze you've got there - same as we had 😁
As expected, this one is a colander. The interior quality is exactly what I'd expect to be honest, but it is built better than I'd expect.
Even with the water ingress, you're right about the rust. They're galvanised!
@@TwinCam yeah, mine went back to the main dealer 3 times, and it had still started leaking again when I sold it.
They had a 12 year anti-rust warranty, and they do seem to have got that part right.
Pity the Corsa B wasn't as rust proof - although mine did last 16 years and was still a cracking little motor.
My Corsa B seemed to be pretty rust-free at 15 years old (apart from where a tiny section of paint on the tailgate had been scraped back to bare metal, and so a teeny spot of rust had started to form). Mind you, this was in New Zealand's North Island (where the car was called a Holden Barina).
Friend of mine had one of these for a while. I definitely agree on how they feel cheap but well built lol
New camera and mount, nice wide internal shots and mounting positions, view of the driver, cockpit and the road ahead all in one.
That's what I was going for, John! :)
Great video Ed - agree with everything you said- Drove one of these for 7 yrs with no probs- except I'd take one of these over a clio or anything french because of the vastly superior GM build quality.- I fear for Vauxhall/ Opels of future now that they are owned by Peugeot e.g too close positioning of accelerator+ brake pedals in particular.
I had what I believe to be the Corsa B model 1.2 GLS registered new in 1999. I owned it from 2004 until 2017. One if the best cars I have ever owned with hardly giving any problems in all that time and took me miles in the last year's I owned it and never ever let me down once. It was still perfect mechanically with good strong engine clutch and gear box. Unfortunately it failed the mot quite miserably in 2017 with the usual under body and sill corrosion which rendered it un echonimical to repair given its 18 years of age and the really sad decision to scrap her. I decided to stick with vauxhall based on how well the Corsa had served me and given I really needed something a little bigger opted for a Meriva. This hasn't served me so well unfortunately with the All so common power steering issue which to put right is apparently expensive. Intermittent sun roof leak 😏 Air con never has worked and occasionally does a weird thing on start up where it will start and then cuts out bringing the spanners up on the dash but then when you re start it it's fine. Unsure if this may be something to do with a replacement key I had to obtain. Don't think I will have such a long relationship with this one 😂
I had one when i was 19 back in 2004. Gave it the boy racer treatment.. miss it bad :)
I have one now, a sedan variant made in Brazil with a 1.8 8v 102hp engine, and is nice to be honest, you are all the time below 2000 rpm is very relaxing has a lot of torque, AC, good radio, electric windows, power steering, a big trunk, is like you said, a GOOD car, and that's what I need right now. I had classics in the past, 79 Escort, 91 Renault 19, etc, and i need a break from them to be honest, i need a car that i don't love, just transport something that i take care and keep running but that is just a car, and im very pleased with it.
Great review of an underrated car, I have had loads of different cars but this is one of the best I've owned...does what it says on the tin ..I have a 2000 1.2 comfort and I worked at the garage it came from new and it even has an invoice from me for some parts 😅...
My first car! A 2002 SXi in nepal yellow. Nothing special and defintely dull as dish water to drive, but as my first car it'll always hold a place in my heart!
I had the same one as this just in silver 2005, I called it rustang willy coz it was rusty in quite a few places . Great little car lots of fun I found it to be very comfy
my 2002 sxi had to have a new gear linkage as it was made from plastic and wers out. there is a upgraded metal replacement. loved my corsa c
Loved It!
In 2001 I once hired a Corsa B 1.2 16v when my Fiat Tempra was being...errr...temperamental! I was very impressed with it - like a little rocket.
The ignition turning on the radio can be easily disabled. Check the radio manual... Also the RDS function of the radio stations can set the time if you want, so your time is always correct!
I had one for my first car 4 years ago i had the 2002 1.0 3 cylinder with 60 BHP and it was fairly okay to drive, the engine did sound like abit of a loud sowing machine and the clutch was really unforgiving, to get a smooth drive and to not stall. if you could drive that car you could quite honestly drive any car. (albeit the cars clutch was on its way out). i totally agree with you it wasnt exciting to drive but at the same time it was just nice and it gave me 100% pleasure and reliability of driving for 2 years until i bought myself a new 1.4Turbo Corsa E, which felt like a Rolls Royce to drive and thats why i believe getting a cheap car for your first car is best as it keeps costs down and makes it feel so rewarding when you save and move onto your next car! excellent video by the way!
Thanks mate ☺️
Great little cars. Yours testing the grandma spec. Sxi, Sri, handle a lot better. Nice to see road testing the cars
Do sxi and sri Handle better then?
Will P Yes got slightly low and stiffer suspension. Slightly bigger anti roll bars. And better brakes.
I love your facts and figures. I like your style too TwinCam. Pete UK
Thanks again Pete ☺️
Have you done any on the Ford focus mk2 I have one I think they are really good id be more then happy to let you use it for a video
Another good video Ed!!
Having recently travelled in one of these, I can see the appeal - but would rather stick to my Fiat Panda!
Thanks Robert. I love a Panda!
@@TwinCam Me too - I have two!
Great video.. The Corsa is a nice car, i thought about buying one, good looks and not bad interior, but inside it just didnt crack it for me, when i was down sizing i wanted a real special supermini.. But yeah the Corsa is well proven and a major brand so a safe buy.. And yes the alloys are smart as is the design of the car..
Thanks again :)
My mate had a 1.2 one, whereas I had previously had a 1.4 mpi B. My mate's always felt poorly geared; fast enough in 1st & 2nd, then too long geared in 3rd especially & 4th. Both were too short in top. Except for the 1.8 SRI I briefly hired, slightly vague steering on the C too.
I remember from my jolly time with my Corsa that the "radio turn on automatically every time you start" feature can be changed somehow! I don't remember how though. I really liked the power windows with their one-push up and down feature that continues even when you pull out the key. That's soo annoying on my Focus. I have to wait with the fingers on the rocker switches until the windows are all the way up. Rrrr.
It can be changed, but that setting means the radio stays on when the key turned off and taken out!
Nice one well put video
Cheers Carl ☺️
Hmm, i think i have same problem with radio on my dad's 2005 Opel Combo. You should go to settings, press arrow right to switch to system, use up and down arrows to the point when Ign.Logic ON appears, and use arrows left or right to select off. Then wait a few seconds, and it shoud go back to audio source, like a radio or cd. Sorry for english, second language :)
Corsa's used to be popular with young'un's because it was cheap to insurance, cheap to run and was easily customised.
My brother bought a new 2005 Corsa 1.3CDTI 5dr breeze. Felt cheap inside, hard plastics, rubbish seats and OK to drive. I bought a 2002 Clio 1.2 16v extreme at the same time. Much preferred my car. Had a lot more kit., supportive sports seats and a much better drive.
I agree. My mum bought the Corsa and I bought a Clio. Definitely preferred the Clio. Far better drive
You should try and review a similar age fiesta and settle the ford vs vauxhall battle
need to ask a question. There are 2 round seals on the door frame once the door is opened. What are they called? We've bought an old 2005 corsa and they've been removed. Anyone know what they are called
Thanks
7:35 - some did have ashtrays there - mine does. Pointless feature, but mine had it!
Found some ashtrays for mine in the local scrap yard
This is my first car, despite having only the 3cyl 60 horsepower one litre and god I love it
I've been given a 1.0 life which I'm looking forward to modifying. At the last mot it had a mere 32,000 on the clock
I’ve got a 1.0 Life too, never had a problem with it. And 32,000 miles is so low!
Holden Barina in Australia. Very popular and thought to be economical and reliable.
Beep beep Barina!
First time I've seen a review of yours (and I know this car well; I'm on CCUK). I have to say, you covered everything really well - great job. The only thing I would say is that trim level must be Life (imprisonment) or Comfort (GM extreme irony dept) because those flat seats are terrible whereas the SXi, SRi have side bolsters etc. I've put leathers from an Exclusiv in my front and they're good for 7hrs+ driving. Seriously well spotted on the armache, though. I have a lhd and my left shoulder really groans at me to use that door armrest (and I've put a Tigra centre rest in too) so I get exactly what you said about your right shoulder - and my wheel has height adjustment.
In the mid-2000s, I got a lot of hire cars in Malaga and two out of three times I'd be handed a Corsa C. Kind of sums them up; a car you could get into for the first time and drive off on the wrong side of unfamiliar roads without wrapping yourself round a lamppost. Easy, almost meh. Nowadays, if the car's solid but the spec's spartan, it's easy and cheap to tart them up with a better interior.
My 2004 1.2 Energy has those rubbish flat seats. It's the worst thing. It's not comfortable on longer runs. Mines got height adjustable driver's seat but I still can't get a really comfortable driving position. I find I get shoulder ache as shoulders not supported when I have seat back where I need it. Mines got 2 airbags, the passenger one was an option. Spec is good with air con, 4 spkr cd, alloys, remote locking etc. If I knew how to get more supportive seats put in I would change them as it's in A1 condition and low miles. I like the smaller size than new corsas as it fits in a garage easily. It drives well. I find the 1.2 engine quite smooth and perky enough. It's never let me down.
@@friendlyhorseuk7220 Seat replacement is really easy, cheap and I'd recommend it. The leather and part leather ones (Exclusiv and SXi+) suffer badly rubbed or torn bolsters from the driver dragging the seat belt over. SXi and SRi seats are cloth but supportive. Undoing four Torx bolts on the runners, and maybe swapping over the seatbelt pre-tensioners (another Torx) is all there is to it.
