As a biker I don’t know what you were thinking, especially in that traffic although accidents can happen anywhere and at any speed, the lid and safety gear might just save your life , you really should know better , enjoy the holiday and hopefully no accidents.
That's way too crazy for me, holiday of a lifetime could've been over before it's even begun....

Why has the rider got a helmet and you haven’t. Your travel insurance would be invalid if the accident was serious. You wouldn’t do this in London.

It costs tens of thousands to repatriate people who get seriously injured abroad. Do you think an insurance company will pay for the transportation if the accident severity could have been reduced by wearing a helmet?

It's not just Thailand where they drive like lunatics. All over Asia it is pretty much the same. The only Asian country I've been where they drive sensibly is Japan, and I've visited many Asian countries. When I lived in Korea I remember the taxi drivers protesting because the government was bringing in a law that was going to mean they couldn't watch TV whilst they were driving and if they did they would be fined.
Enjoy thailand mr DJ. Watched another vlogger recently in Thailand..no helmet as well and vlogging while on the back of his bike too. Very unsafe. I thought you brought your helmet? Maybe just forgot it! Forgot to add,this vlogger got fined for not wearing a helmet too.
When I went to Thailand it was pretty much the same as now 20 years later, a helment and a biohazzard suit might be something to think about while in Bangkok atleast. Have a safe trip, Beautiful country, cities are chaos.

Assuming that you had not been walking arround with a blindfold on, you were fully aware how crazzy the road behaviours were, then decided to jump on the back of a bike withhought a helmet. Unbelievably foolish behaviour. Had you been 50 yards further ahead when that fella went down, he may well have taken you down with him. At best, probablly a hospital visit in a foreign country, at worst, doesn't bare thinking about. And then claimig this to be an awareness piece for others, crazy

Take extra care DJ! As u said some of the bikers drive like madmen! One of my mates moved 2 THAILAND 10 years ago! Unfortunately he died in a Motorcycle accident 3 years ago! Apart from that enjoy!x
Ive been all over thailand last 19 years, next time go in April for Songkran and Loi Kratong in November, its quiet there now.

Some motorbike taxi have helmut just look for one your insurance will not cover you or down load bolt taxi still very cheap

Darren, 'you' are a complete clown..!! This is the first time you have annoyed me. You went on the motorbike without a helmet. The fellow who fell off, (through no fault of his own, imo.). He "did" have a helmet on! It doesn't matter what you stand for, if you don't stand for it. .. don't call someone names, when they are doing what YOU say you stand for, but he does... I was in Thailand for two months this year, and I would have asked your driver to stop, so I could have checked he was ok!

I can't believe you took a helmet all the way to Thailand, and didn't wear it. The locals believe if its buddha's will it will happen (or not) you have one life and travel insurance.
I believe all advanced motor-cyclists SHOULD wear a helmet; but they shouldn't be forced by law to wear one. I believe in personal freedoms, and that comes with responsibilities too. If you fall off, and you aren't wearing a helmet, well... tough.
With that said, it doesn't make sense to hop on the back of a motor bike as a passenger - esp. in a Third-World country - without knowing the capabilities of the driver, and not wear one. You are literally putting your life in their hands. Again, it's your decision, and I'm not judging... I've done the same in that region too, when I was younger. It's not smart.

Darren, I hope you didn't take a motorbike taxi back to your hotel after a few 'Chang's', not recommended !! and no helmet !!, last time I was in BKK we were going to The Palace in a minibus,early morning , 4 lanes of traffic at a standstill, motorbike taxi's weaving thru the traffic with many girls sitting sidesaddle on their way to work, on their phones !! putting on their makeup !! not a care in the world, crazy place, I love it!!

Like you said you went totally against all the rules of motor cycling in the UK , I was very surprised you had no helmet ? Probably none available, you know your skill levels handling your powerful machines , especially on the ride out abroad , but to trust a unknown rider as a pillion passenger, and the idiot rider who lost control, no thank you , no matter how well you can ride it only needs to be someone else's fault and life over. Stick to the rickshaws.

Really bad move not wearing a helmet. Your insurance could be invalidated if you end up in hospital after having an accident out there. Personally I would just take a normal taxi cab or a tuk tuk/rikshaw.
I wouldn't of got on a motorbike in Thailand not a chance & make sure you go back to that strip when it picks up after 10pm you'll love it & try the food stalls 😇
I never ever liked Bangkok, it was just too hot and noisy for my liking. However get yourself to Chatuchak Weekend Market. You'll be blown away at the sheer size of it. I went on the floating market, which imo was utter rubbish, as the things you can buy are far more expensive than any other market or shop. Wait till you see an entire family clinging on to a moped lol

Almost had my knee cap broken riding on the back of one of those taxi bikes cutting through traffic in Bangkok, stuck to Tuk Tuks after that !

I recommend the sky train or a taxi a little more expensive but you can’t put a price on your life! Tuk Tuk’s are just as bad! Try saying Cha-cha-noi, means slow 😂 x
