I'm with you on this.. I think is too boring stick with just one media or painting just one type of drawing... I do all..portraits, landscapes, animals... gouache, watercolor, alcohol markers, color Pencils... hahaha.. much more fun ❤
@@paintingandchocolate exactly 🤣🤣😢😢 we want to do all in the same time... and we can't.. here in Brazil is a holiday today... so... 3 days just doing art 🥰😅 I love your channel
Thank you Paula! I really want to start using more sketchbooks to let loose with all these mediums and more like colored pencils, gouache ...(everything in fact 🙂)
@@paintingandchocolate To let the playful spirit of creativity loose, right? I'm still new at a lot of this and need to get into playing more in sketchbooks.
I understand from many UA-camrs and other social media reviews that the Perfect sketchbook is supposed to be amazing, but I don’t understand that they market themselves as “by artists, for artists”, yet the price is simply too ridiculous for words! As you so rightly said, it ought to be possible to purchase one at a time. However, even then, the price per sketchbook is still very high. For all the reasons above, I am not impressed by Etchr at all. They haven’t even used the most expensive watercolour paper in the world (Aches). Arches is a joy to paint in, but I still use it sparingly. And I most definitely do not bulk buy it. Perhaps I should simply rob a bank…? 🤔😂 Many thanks for the information François, and your artwork is, as ever, a joy!! ❤️🎨🖌
I see your frustration with the pricing, maybe we will get to see it as one sketchbook for those wanting to try it. And thank you for your kind words 🙂
@@paintingandchocolate I decided to do a quick price check. Jackson's, for an A5 sketchbook (the one I might consider if I were not on a replacement only no-buy) would be £35. With shipping, and French TVA (UK VAT deducted) it is £39.35. In Euros, the Jackson's price is 45€ 34. A&P is slightly less at is €42.66 including postage. A&P only offer Landscape format. A4: Jacksons 57€ 62. With TVA and postage, €63.35. A4: A&P €49.42. With postage: €57.10 Comparing this: the Hahnemühle 250gsm 100% cotton is €45.13 (A&P) (I couldn't find it on Jackson's) so maybe Etchr isn't so wildly priced?
@@MrsBarnabas thank you for all these details! Personally, because I love so few watercolor sketchbooks, I'm okay with the price, if I were to order some, having tried it before. I get though it might feel like a big commitment when you haven't tried first, although now I think Etchr does have samples of paper, might have to check. As to Hahnemühle, even their recent 100% cotton sketchbook many seem to love, I can't for some reason paint decently on it, I get those drying marks all over and I'll just have to recycle that one for non-watercolor projects (it's one of those with thin and fast drying paper).
@@paintingandchocolate Françoise, on its release, so many ArtTubers sang the Hahnemühle's praises, and I couldn't / can't see why. but I'm wondering how many of those who sang its praises on their first painting now don't - because they will have found the pages which just don't work. I have seen a few who have been brave enough to be honest about it, and it was such a relief! They've been relieved by my comments that I have problems, too. I have the same problems that you've mentioned, and I also find the colour shift is weird - it seems to bleach out colour as it dries. Given that it's 100% cotton, and 250gsm, the fact that it doesn't layer well is also an issue. The paper just looks grubby and tired if I try. Now it's an expensive 'just for play' book, and I've decided that I will go on making my own sketchbooks from my favourite papers. I'm not happy with myself, though, as I bought the A5 portrait (because it works for landscape mode as well) but also a 5 x 5 square. That's the one I planned to buy, and got drawn into the portrait one! And that's something I just don't normally do! Hey ho. Who lives and experiments with an open mind -may- will usually learn... 😄
Love the life preserver watercolour along with the ink and pencils ❤. Etchr sketchbooks are my favourite. I’ve never purchased them directly from Etchr and have found it cheaper to order from Jackson’s or other online art stores. The individual price often is cheaper elsewhere than buying from Etchr (and Jackson’s has occasional sketchbook sales that include Etchr products).
Just a bit to pick. As a US Coast Guard veteran, I would like to point out that what you have beautifully rendered is a life ring, which is a life saving device. Buoys mark channels for navigation.
You can buy them individually in Jackson’s (for Europe), even though they are currently at £35/50 respectively for the size A5/A4. That’s why despite the price difference I got them from their site instead. It’s a bit cheaper, even though it’s investment.
My other sole favorite (I have tried twice once Arches, lnce Fabriano), thank you for pointing it out. But yes, pricier, and harder to get maybe for all internationals than Etchr's I think.
