Hey Everyone! Today we're revisiting an old mod project, the Kiesel RV69K from our friend The Beard of Doom! We originally modified this bass with a pair of EMG P6 pickups and a darkglass tone capsule. What's better than one tone capsule? TWO! We're adding a second Tone Capsule as well as upgrading our pickups to EMG P6CSX X-series pickups to give us some mean and lean tones. Let's do this!
This bass and all my other basses with rounds are strung with SIT Foundation Nickel Plated Stainless Steel 45-105(125) unless otherwise noted. Check them out at sitstrings.com/

That's a wild amount of versatility--Every tone in one bass!
The reverse P forces your thumb further back toward the bridge too. That probably has some impact on the tone as well.

Lobster man. That's a ridiculous, over the top mod my man. A couple switches for the pups to make series/parallel and you'd have a "studio bass". For me, instead of individual volumes. I'd have a volume/fader combo. I think it's too much fiddling around with 2 volumes. But that's my opinion. Having 2 eq's is already too much fiddling around. But I can see what you're doing here and I'm going along with what you've got going on here. I gotta say though. All these mod videos is starting to give my brain some "thought provoking" exercises. Oh my... The possibilities. Until we groove again ✌️😎👍🦞🎸

For some reason I’m just now seeing this, what a killer mod!! Kiesel is getting bigger and bigger! At least to me, and that spacing looks very comfortable for a 6 would love to see this mod on a HH stingray!! 🙏😁

I would love to see a comparison between this Kiesel and the FGN double P just to hear the difference P vs reverse P makes in this configuration.
I don't think it'd be the best comparison as the position of the pickups is quite different (FGN has them both much closer to the neck), but it does still intrigue me 🤔
Somewhere out here on YT is a comparison of a pair of vintage BC Rich basses, one standard double P, one reverse double P. Check it out!
There is one with two BC rich, it does make a big difference, this is the principle behind Leland Sklar "producer switch"

That bass looks and sounds beautiful, and that dual Darkglass preamp configuration does give it a lot of tone variation. However, I personally would find that level of tweak-ability to be very distracting and would spend way too much time twisting knobs.
Way fat tone ! Very versatle with the Darkglass pre amps. These basses a rock solid built.
Jeff Keisel and Roy Vogt must be having a stroke over this.
Roy actually commented on previous vids and gave us compliments! Really awesome dude he is.
I'm really liking the double P config. Gonna have to make/get one. Just curious, are you playing out of that ORANGE in the corner?
Thank you Ron! Yes, I'm using that Orange Crush 50 in all my videos. My goal is to present basses in a realistic manner for hobbyists instead of using effects and multi-thousand dollar amp rigs and I think the little amp does a great job. I'm using the direct out into my focusrite scarlett.
@@LowEndLobster Thanks for the info. I have an OC 50 as well and it's not happy. I get changing dead notes. Some days the E string sounds like it's in overdrive and others it's the A string. Can't figure it out. This happens with all basses and all cables. Is the Rumble series worth a look? Hartke? Where I live I don't have a lot available. The selection is limited. The nearest music store is about 2 hours away and I'd need to have several weapons in hand to get out of that part of town with my purchase. So I am always buying on line.

I am considering a similar configuration in my Yamaha.

On the real, watching you do mod videos (especially this one) makes me glad i dont do the work on my basses myself. I just do NOT have the patience (or knowledge) to do any of this.
So does that mean that i can install a darkglass tone capsule on EMG X pickups?
I love your videos, only one criticism or suggestion, can you frame the basses differently. I can never see the headstocks. Maybe it’s just UA-cam on iPhone cropping the video but top of the video frame is at the nut on most basses.

I don't know if you have any 8 string basses,
but I would really like to hear how an 8 string bass sounds strung B E A D.
I have always played 5 and 6 string basses, and have never been satisfied with the sound of the low B.
I'm wondering whether pairing that low B with an octave string would improve its timbre.
The B strings of a multi-scale bass (like a Dingwall or Spector Dimension) sound significantly better than most 34 or 35 inch basses I've played or heard.
I expected this to sound massive, but it just kinda doesn't
