The sabotage campaign against Palestine solidarity with Max Blumenthal | EI Podcast

- Опубліковано 10 лис 2024
- On episode 40, author and editor of The Grayzone Max Blumenthal returns for a wide-ranging discussion.
We begin with his recent article on the Israel lobby’s manufactured claims of anti-Jewish bigotry aimed at distracting from last month’s attack on Gaza and Jerusalem.
At exactly the same time there were massive popular demonstrations in support of Palestinians, claims that there was a new wave of anti-Semitism filled corporate media.
But Max investigated and found these were baseless.
He tells us: “What they’re doing in the US is basically trying to find an exit ramp from the scenes, that even CNN was showing, of media towers in Gaza being taken out for no reason… or entire families being exterminated to replace the victimhood of Palestinians with that of … American Jews.”
Although the alleged incidents proved to be baseless, some in the Palestine solidarity movement began apologizing for anti-Semitism anyway.
Max explains that there was a campaign by the “NGO wing of some element of Palestine solidarity on Twitter to basically apologize for a wave of anti-Semitism that didn’t exist.”
The issue of Syria was also used to try to divide the movement once again, at precisely the moment it was beginning to reunify. “I saw a lot of tweets simultaneously denouncing the ‘Assadists’ in our ranks,” he says.

Thanks Max for exposing the lies and deceit
Very informative exposing apartheid Israel's crimes.
A huge thank you for your work and courage for standing up for the oppressed.
❤ max! He blows my mind every time.
1 of the best journalist out here i trust.
Dear Lord. Bless those with courage to stand for truth and justice. Thank you.
i don't understand why basic human dignity and basic human rights are so controversial. Thanks for standing up for whats right ❤️
We love you Max for standing up for the truth, God bless you all.
"Well, it's a trick, we always use it. When from Europe somebody is criticizing Israel, then we bring up the Holocaust. When in this country people are criticizing Israel, then they are anti-Semitic ... And it's very easy to blame people who criticize certain acts of the Israeli government as anti-Semitic, and to bring up the Holocaust, and the suffering of the Jewish people, and that is justify everything we do to the Palestinians."

@@Ibrahimsama Depends on what one means by "leftist." What's unusual in Israeli political discourse is that the terms "left" and "right" are often used to refer purely to one's attitudes on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but sometimes the terms are also used with the more familiar Western meaning (and I would not consider Israel Western, unlike the NATO countries). As a communist myself, I'm familiar (and sometimes affiliated) with several far-left organizations in Israel that are, properly, referred to as "far left" in Hebrew, Arabic and English.

Israel is doing what Nazis were never even accused of. Sniping children !? then pushing similar LIES about Hamas.

Great podcast, I've never listened to an EI podcast because they were too long but this time I was just cleaning up so I listened. Genuinely interesting; plus I like all your sense of humour. For all the gravity of the situation it's so human to just break it occasionally with laughter at how unbelievably absurd it all is. Solidarity.
Will be good to hear you on the podcast, Max. Kind regards!
Definetely worth a rewatch!!! Like most coverage of the conflict, extremely relevant today
Max your a legend. Lots of respect mate !!
'The lobby' documentary by Aljazeera a fine blueprint on how Israel lobby works. What ever discussed here didn't surprise me at all as it was what they are at best with all available resources
Thanks The Electronic Intifada for interviewing Max Blumenthal. IMO Max is an excellent journalist, one of the best. Very thorough with his research and rigorous in his analysis.
And fearless with his criticism of Israel which is something we really needed.
Every time i click on a video with Max, i'm blown away. every single time. love you all so much. peace brothers and sisters.
this is really gold

What’s amazing about this podcast is that 2/4 of these journalists are Jewish Americans and they have so much more integrity and courage than your average person from any other group- to be standing for a group of vulnerable and oppressed people who r different from them knowing that their careers, livelihoods, reputations may be on the line. There r many more influential intellectuals like Abby Martin, Aaron Mate, Kyle Kulinsky, the late Michael Brooks, Noam Chomsky, Bernie Sanders. My deep respect for these journalists and thinkers and we all need to support their courageous acts.
What you are describing, I call humanity. when I was child and naive I expected every one to be like that alas I grew up.
Also Amy Goodman and many British socialist Jews like Naomi Idriss who have been expelled from the British Labour Party.
I love Max Blumenthal so much. He's a great journalist, but I think deep down he wishes he was a stand up comedian!
He’s a gift to us all at this most troubling time. Thank God for journalists like him and the people on this panel. Where would be be without them? Believing Don Lemons lies.
I'm rather sure he's tried doing some open mics, since Ben Norton regularly introduces him as a failed comedian 😂. Also their Aaron Maté admitted to some horrible open mics of his own. There's an element of empathy and agency in comedy that is a good foundation for political activism.
Max is a great wit. That’s even better than stand-up
Max loves being deliciously wicked! He enjoys himself while being totally dedicated and serious, which is an envious combination. Then there's those eyes...ok, I'll stop now. Cheers!
@Yaron Zohar I don't support everything said or done in the name of Palestine, and I know there are fanatics in every community. I oppose all arrogance, oppression and bigotry, whether it comes from Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus or anyone else.
God bless you guys! Keep up the good work because you guys are the truth!
Palestinians recognize the people who identify as Jews that are helping fight the injustice and occupation. Don’t think your efforts go unnoticed.
Compliments to Max, an amazing amount of knowledge. So refreshing to hear some real insights into Israel politics, and into Zionism, with historical perspective

Thank you!
For those that have not read Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel, I strongly recommend that you do. Blumenthal’s ethnographic power is displayed in stunningly beautiful narratives about things so ugly that it is difficult to hold the book for too long. All of his publications are extremely fine and it is important to realize the bravery that is required to write so clearly about these matters. His grace under pressure is remarkable and I often marvel at how he seems to swim right through the rain of insults. He will claim he has it easier than his non-Jewish colleagues. I don’t think so.
At least Max is not being 'Assanged' at the moment. Maybe that's what he means.
He hasn't had to flee the country like Christopher Bollyn, another really good American reporter who should be listened to.
Always happy to find good alternative media content on UA-cam.
Great discussion! Thank you!
Wow where has your channel had been all my life.
The second half of this podcast is straight fire 🤯🔥🔥🔥
Big up EI
Phenomenal interview, thank you!!!
Max's comment about Ethiopian IDF commanders being even harsher to prove their loyalty brings to mind how black police officers in U.S. cities in the 1940s could be so brutal for the same reason in black neighborhoods that some residents would prefer "white justice."
Personally I think that's a rather simplistic view. We cant pretend that there is something different between one IDF zionist and another based on skin colour, they were not forced to partake in the Zionist project, in fact Ethiopians demanded it. They have agency and are no more victims of circumstances than zionists fleeing Europe. The curse here is Zionism not skin colour, you partake, you're guilty by way of your own agency. In the same way Obama doesnt get a free ride for his war crimes and crimes against humanity on the basis of skin colour, you start playing that game you just uphold the entire system of brutality.
@@orlamcmanus9019 thank you! I really dislike Blumenthal, I think he eliminates nuance, and the good kind of nuance not neoliberal nuance

RE: 'scraps from MSM' (Guardian) - these crumbs are 'bookends' sustaining the narrative in support of the the imperial empire.
Absolutely love this discussion. Unfortunately, it won't claw it's way into the manstream zeitgeist anytime soon but that shouldn't stop us from the fight to get it there. Asa's work in the Corbyn era was very strong and I felt a great deal of sorrow for the character assassination he endured. The Struggle, however, still goes on and this discussion is an example and beacon for us all to get behind. Things ARE changing and I take great comfort in that, however slow those changes can sometimes appear to be.
Awesome content, solid analysis, really great work you guys do.

True journalism, MB is as outstanding as always - he talks about many many interesting cases, but where has he documented these? I found a couple of things in the EI website, but where can I find the rest of it?
He's written several excellent books in which he documents these cases, I highly recommend any of them. Just don't buy them from Amazon, lol.
Also check out The Grayzone's website, lots of great investigative journalism. MB is the editor but also writes many fine articles, too.
I don't know how the crew at the Greyzone does what they do - they're all amazing!

This is a great, insightful discussion and I thank you all for it. I'd like to mention, though, that there are two men and two women here, and the discussion is essentially a dialogue between the two men. On the rare instances when one of the women would try to get a word in, they were very often cut off or interrupted by one of the men. The men did not do this when the other man was speaking. I hope Max and Asa will become more aware of this tendency and try to sit quietly when a woman is talking and simply listen to what she is saying. And I hope the women will step forward more and equally join in the discussion as well. I for one really want to hear what they have to say.
You are missing the content and focusing on the wrong aspects - doesn’t matter who is speaking more.
For as long as America gives this blind and unconditional support to Israel the Palestinians will always suffer .
The reason the Americans do this is because it achieves their foreign policy objective .
We call the NYTimes newsroom the IDF PTA.
Just when I think I've got a grasp on who the zionist players are (Israeli + US) in terms of power + propaganda, you guys show up with tons more info + examples… Never stops

Good analysis.
* Between 1922 and 1948, it was control under British Mandate, called Palestine - That is the name of this land when it was given to you by the British.
* Before between 16th and 20th century it was under Ottoman Rule, it was called Kudus I-Sherif (Jerusalem), Nablus and Akka (Acre).
* Between 13th and 16th century During the Mamluk Rule, it was called Falastin, as part of Bilal al-Sham (Syria).
* During the Crusade, it was referred to as the Kingdom of Jerusalem by the Western Christendom (the princes in communion with the a Roman Catholic Church).
* During the Ummayad and Abbasid Rule between 7th and 12th century, the land was called Jund Filastin, with Gherussalaim (Jerusalem) as capital. Hence the Masjid Al Aqsa
* 400 AD to 700 AD; During the Byzantine Rule; it was divided in three districts: Palaestina Prima, Palaestina Secunda, and Palaestina Salutaris.
* During the Roman Rule, 70 AD - 400 AD, it was called Syria-Palaestina, with the capital in Antiochia.
* During Herodian Rule, between 40 BC to 70 AD; It was a Tetrarchy of Judea, a client state of the Roman Empire.
* During the Hasmonean’s rule (160 BC to 40 BC), it was called Judea & Samaria.
* During the Greek Ptolemy and Seleucids Era (350 BC to 200 BC), it belonged to the Hellenistic Egypt and the Seleucid Persian interchangeably, the entire land was called Palaestina (it is a Greek name).
* During the Assyrian, Babylonian and Achaemenid Persian rule (8th - 5th Century BC) - it was called Yehud Medinata.
* After the myth of Exodus, and before Assyrian and Babylonian rules: It was called Kingdom of Judah and the (North) Kingdom of Israel in Samaria (hence the Samaritans Jews). The tribes of Israel were not yet Monotheistic; So nobody can claim Jewishness, or a Jewish Identity from this era.
* Before 1000 BC; Canaan, belong to the Canaanites. Canaanites were the people whom Yahweh, the God of the Israelites, have asked to murder and pillage. Its capital was Jericho.
* NOTE: Only for about less than 230 years the Jews could call this region as their country WITH Jewish Identity. As an Independent State during the Hasmonean rule, and as a Client State of the Roman Empire during Herodian Rule; Between 160 BC to 70 AD.
The Roman and the Ashkenazi Jews were the only people who tried to expel the native of this land, in 70 AD and 1948, respectively. By contrast, upon conquering this region, the Achaemenid Persian (Iran), not only gave back this land to the Jews but also sponsoring the building of the Second Temple in 514 BC; because the Persian wants to built a “buffer zone” on the border with the advancing Greek.
The Jews are just one of several indigenous people of Palestine.
So your point is that Jews don't deserve a homeland because at one point they were strictly monotheistic, Exodus is 'mythical', many empires and kingdoms ruled it, it was one of many ethnic or tribal groups in this region, and they allegedly only had sovereignty for a few centuries in total.
@@TheLincolnrailsplitt Yep.
I heard something in a lecture by some rabbi whose name I forget but it was essentially about how during the time of the Masciach the Jewish people would become hard "like a heel" as in stubborn, do you not think they are trying to act out this theory and somehow coax out the Mashiach?
Absolutely. Netanyahu was operating under the delusion that he was the Jewish messiah.
@@kindGSL interesting do you have any leads on this? I totally accept the premise can be true but Id like to see what the indicators look like.

Excellent "conversation" ... Excellent... Thank you very much!
Nevertheless, with all due respect... I missed listening to Tamara.
When we have 4 people together - usually - even the most "democratic" group... 2 or 3 will take the lead and 1 or 2 will follow... maybe out of politeness or...
I think we should start "democracy" by being interested in the people around us.
Shouldn't a Conversation be an interplay of ideas instead of a Lecture by 1 or 2?!

Unlike Palestine, it's important to recognise that Syria is genuinely complicated and a very different backdrop. Yes multiplicity of hidden players and motives behind the scenes (not black as white as portrayed), but extraordinary human suffering of populations is largely due to the horrific tactics employed, the people are like pawns in this regional game.
The US wanted regime change in Syria and had done for a long time. So did Al Qaeda and the Sunni jihadists, and Israel. Russia and Iran felt threatened by this prospect and reacted. Turkey and the Kurds had their own regional agendas, and the Gulf states more or less followed the US and Saudi Arabia as usual.
Unfortunately the Arab spring forces were small and quickly overtaken by stronger forces.
Is that too complicated...?
@@ebflegg Not if you ignore the history of the country but take that into account and it becomes more nuanced. We all know the drivers and proxies, but this is not taking place in a vacuum, it has its own backdrop and history. Nor is there uniformity of ideology, purpose or objective in the opposition to Assad. So it seems over-simplifying the narrative can be as misleading as over-complicating it.
