Every year, between dance, cosplay, and Halloween costumes, I need a pretty bow. And every year, for literally the last decade, I come back to this video to remember how to make these bows! Always beautiful, always easy, for pretty much any size/fabric I'm using. Thank you! 🩷🎀
I have never really sewed before outside of small fix up holes in clothes, but I wanted to make a bow for a prop I was making and your tutorial was super easy to follow along to for a complete beginner. I absolutely love how it came out!
Its very helpful that you show not only what pattern pieces go where but also how they look midway through making!! Will so be using this for my cosplay
i love this tutorial!!! even after 11 years it is still a great way to learn to make a bow!!! i made a bow for a cosplay earlier and it turned out amazing and so simple to do 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Thank you for such an amazing tutorial :) I'm entering my convention's mascot contest, and while I have made bows before I wanted to make this year's many bows perfect, which following your instructions I feel I can do. Thank you!~
Making a Sailor Mars Halloween costume for my daughter. Thank you for this video. It's perfect, easy to follow. Your bows are exactly what I need to make. Thank you 😘
Thank you! :D I'm sorry but I don't remember the exact measurements I used. Just measure across your chest to see how wide you want the bow, then double this to get the length. (same for the back)
First of all, Awesome tutorial! It saved my butt. Though I would like to say that when you go and make the little strip for the middle part, using the zipper foot attachment is a ton of help. You get super close to the edge and it doesnt make the fabric go all wonky, also it looks really nice when its done!
This is a pretty nice tutorial!! :> I might be using this tut for making a faux obi knot (it looks a lot like a chocho musubi/butterfly knot! i was thinking of making a chocho musubi for the obi) for a modified yukata cosplay in the future.
Try using a stiff fabric, or you could use felt (although that might be a little heavy) You can also use normal paper, but be gentle and make sure it doesn't get wet.
Thank you so much for this! I’ve been looking for how to make a giant paper bow, but I keep getting the round kind that go on cars. I’m going to use this approach and hopefully it works.!
The outer fabric is a polycotton. At the time, I didn't have much budget and it was the cheapest option. You can make the bows in many kinds of fabrics.
I love the way you done the bows, I have to make bows for brides maid's dresses with longer ribbon my question is I have to use satin would this still look good.
thank you so much for this tutorial! i'm going to be cosplaying rabbit from steam powered giraffe and this was the one part of her costume i was having trouble with, this helped tons! ^w^
Do you know what number of interfacing you used? I am working on something similar (your method is a thousand times easier than what I was trying to do) and tried the foam style interfacing and #70 interfacing and yours seems better, less stiff. I was just wondering if you remembered the number you used?
Can you do the same process for a Marilyn Monroe costume? I've wanted to make a large pink bow for my DIY Diamonds costume from the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Pauline Hutchins I have all of my videos on one channel (sewing, cooking dancing, random etc.) I make playlists of the sewing videos, you can check them out on my channel.
Great tutorial!! I'm making curtains/Valences for my grandbaby's nursery and was looking for a LARGE bow tutorial to add. I have a ?, on the long "tail" piece, do I need to fold over the edge of the actual fabric, over the interfacing, before I sew the 3 edges together, or does it matter? I hope you understand what I'm asking, haha! (I'm pretty new to sewing and what I do know is self taught, haha!)
Okay for the long piece: You can sew a tube first, then cut the interfacing slightly smaller than the tube, then slide the interfacing inside and seal off the opening.
Its ok. I seen another video that did the same kinda bows and she put the measurements in the discription. Both were great but i really liked youre video more better lol you seemed lively and she talked like she dull c: But they do seem easy to make and hopefully it will be a breeze for my cosplay
The material for the bow is called broadcloth or poly cotton, it's cheap, stiff and easy to work with, you can find the paper-ish stuff (interfacing) at a fabric store, just ask for it, they will know what it is
Great tutorial! I'm trying to make a bow for a Final Fantasy VII Aerith cosplay. Do you have any tips about making the ends of the top part of the bow pointy instead of straight/slightly rounded? Thanks! :)

Try using a headband, and you can place safety pins on the back and then use clips/bobby pins to attach to your hair

Great tutorial! I'm trying to make a bow for a Final Fantasy VII Aerith cosplay. Do you have any tips about making the ends of the top part of the bow pointy instead of straight/slightly rounded? Thanks! :)
You will need to clip the corners closely before turning it inside out.
Awesome, thank you! :)
Would wax paper work? For the inside to keep it stiff?
I don't think wax paper is stiff enough.
Thank you so much this is amazing! Would you be able to make a maid cosplay lace like head band tutorial?
Thanks! Yup, actually I've been into lolita recently. So a tutorial is coming soon!
