Anything from PackIt Gourmet. I see you like them, too. I was a big fan of Sarah McConnell’s freezer bag cooking, but modern freeze dried meals are so good I just go with them most of the time.

My favorite hiking 🥾 snacks are oatmeal with dried fruits, organic chia and flax seeds on it . Dried dates, pistachios, guava paste , cheddar moon cheese ,dried figs, and pecans, I liked to add natural 🍋 to my water with a pinch of salt, or naan tablets to hydrate my body

Could you submerge the candy bar (wrapped, of course) in your water bottle to cool it off & "solidify" it a little before you open & eat it? It should be waterproof in its packaging....

Very interesting food choices! Its great to mix it up and try new things. The crackers and salmon was a good idea. You could probably even throw the salmon tuna bag into your chick pea meal to add some hardiness to it. But thats if you weren't putting it on crackers. I just got into the pakkit gourmet freeze dried meals and they are awesome! They sell a sampler pack that has like 11 meals and a few desserts and such. Although i just had the mountain house beef stroganoff and it was awesome. Mid sized meal not one of the large ones. My favorite new snack is the Belvita soft bake oat and chocolate chip breakfast bars!! Wow totally recommend them!! They make a blue berry version and belvita Protein bars. 200 calories each and 10 grams of protein. I can eat like 3 of them things! Stay safe guys! Hike on!!

I just bought a bear canister & shopping this wknd for all the food, of course from all your delicious recipes! I keep wondering, is everything going to fit?! 😭 I’ll be doing a 6 day backpacking at mineral king loop!! Any advice I would be extremely appreciative! THANK YOU

I've definitely had moments of contemplating how in the world I was going to get everything into the bear canister and unfortunately I don't really have any good tips, other than sometimes you just have to really pack it all in there and squish some things down! Sorry I couldn't be more helpful on this! Your trip sounds awesome though. I hope you have a great time!

Idahoan instant potatoes (various flavors) with freeze dried cheese and dehydrated ground beef or chicken. The normal package is typically too much for a single meal, so I split the package for individual portions.

My favorite backpacking meals so far: Mountain House breakfast scramble and Backpacker's Country banana coconut granola (good with hot or cold water). We have no room for a dehydrator in our teeny lil house, but one of these days when we have a bigger home that'll be a purchase for us! I'd love to make my own food for an overnight.

Something worth checking into as I was having this issue... everyone knows the longer you leave meals sit to rehydrate, the better they taste. But after 20 min or so, some of my meals were starting to cool off too much and now I'd have a fully rehydrated meal that wasn't all that hot anymore.... Enter:

This totally awesome backpacking cozy that I found on Etsy! Fits pretty much any size dehydrated backpacking meal and keeps it nice and hot while it's rehydrating. GENIUS! And it weighs practically nothing (bonus!) and it's only $10 (double bonus!)

Having just watched your video other than your main meal I was appalled at the processed junk food you ate. Nothing beats oatmeal as a natural base for all but the main meal. Add fruits, chocolate and fat or honey. Have it as a muesli, cook it into bars for snacks or cold pressed as a high energy snack. Second is rice: think asian and cold boiled rice in the morning with tuna flakes is nutritious, pressed into bars with crystallized fruits is really yummy and full of energy. A favorite main meal is noodles with dehydrated mixed veg and a boiled egg crumbled on top. Boiled eggs may be heavy but they travel well and in the shell are good for a week in temperate climates.
