No band student should EVER make it through middle school/junior high school without playing this piece.

We played this in band, back in 1970-71. I played flute and piccolo. We took it to State and got a standing ovation at the end of the song! One of my favorite concert pieces ever! Still love Mr. McBeth's music. Thank you for putting this song here.

We played this in jr high back in 77-78. Seems like yesterday. For all you young ones, you will remember your jr high and high school band days. Enjoy it!

Kim Huckaby we were supposed to take this song to state contest and it is one of the hardest contests we would go to for band as a freshman band, freshman have never gotten above a 3 at this but apparently with our band we were looking good until corona virus hit. Now I’m trying to stay in shape with my instrument and I needed to hear it so I get it right.

We played it the same year. Waxahachie, TX. I played Baritone.

What sets this song up is the Euphonium-Clarinet pairing at the beginning that leads to the Flutes taking over the melody with the Clarinets and the Euphonium backing to the counter melody. In my opinion....that is one of the (if not THE) best Woodwind/Brasswind pairings. Soprano Clarinet (in lower and mid range) and Euphonium.

I was fortunate to know him, and to live for many years in the same town, Arkadelphia, Arkansas. There he wrote music, and taught as a music professor at Ouachita Baptist University. He signed some original scores for my daughter to give to her band director at her high school in Florida. He lived just down the street from me, and his home was lovely. Dr. McBeth was a most kind, gracious, Christian man, with immense talent. God gave him a gift that he shared freely with us. Thank you.

Richard Robinson so nice to hear. He was a friend of my high school band director's. He conducted our honor band my senior year, and I got a chance to meet him and at with him. Such a nice person! He is the master of bandstration!

Dr. McBeth took me to lunch back in the 1970's at a music workshop in Bemidji, MN. I was a lowly first year teacher - but it was an experience I will never forget. Truly, he was a special man!

I was honored in my first years of teaching to have not only attended a band workshop with Dr. McBeth, but he treated me - just him and me - for a lunch. That is a memory someone 'small like me' was encouraged to move forward with my career - that was in 73 or so... it was in Bemidji, MN. He was a treasure, for sure! HIs music lives on, however, and I always think of that lunch whenever I play something he wrote.

I played this in 1983 when I was in the 7th grade. Our middle school band killed it and we got a standing ovation. I played trombone. Interesting that the high school band director had us sight read this when I was a junior but it didn't sound nearly as good as when we did it as younger musicians. Thanks for the memories.

This was one of our two entries at the Florida State Band Festival and Symphonic Contest in 1970. The event was held in Sarasota, Florida. This piece is so moving...thank you, Lord, for giving us Mr. McBeth who, through you, gave us this music.

I performed this also in 1970 at the North FBA Festival held in Tallahasse. The state contest had been devided between north and south Florida. A great time for high school bands in Florida. Sadly, I doubt we have a band in north Florida that could play this beautiful composition.

I sure will. I worked in the band department with Carl Albert for awhile and got to meet Mr. McBeth and the greatest band directors in the entire State of Texas, as well as the Cleveland Orchestra's wind section. Arthur Gurwitz was astounded when I went up and told him who was looking through the UIL Solos near the Choir Dept.! (Of course, he went down and they got "the GRAND TOUR!" ) lol
