Coming off of two back to back bouts of bronchitis, I’m using the run-walk method to build back my endurance-

I completed Jeff's 16 week 10K Garmin coach plan last year. It was pretty tough, but I was rewarded with short videos from him encouraging me to continue. What a guy! I ran my fastest 10K last year. This year it's only a 12 week course, so I'm curious to see what it's like. This video explain a lot of questions I had while doing his Garmin coach. In particular the "Magic Mile." The last week had me running 20x800m@3:59~4:12/km with a 3 minute recovery in between. I was thinking, "There must be some kind of mistake. I'm only training for a 10k."

I used Jeffs first book to obercome injuries and restart my running career at age 40 when i led a half marathon start to finish for my only overall road race win in 78 minutes. The endurance base helped me have a successful masters track career at 800/mile distances.
One of the founding farhers of modern running.

Run walk run helped me out greatly on two of my marathons. First, was at NYC when I didn't train at all specifically for 26.2. Only my fitness from completing my first year of Sprint Triathlon racing. The water stations at NYC were all 1 mile apart so it was easy to take a one minute walk break at each one. I finished in al little over 5 hours. Second, I used it for my first and only Ironman triathlon. I took a 30 second walk break every half mile for the first six miles and then a 1 mile: 1minute pattern up to mile 20. I felt so good, I didn't take any walk breaks for the last 10K. I was able to negative split and run a 4.5ish hour Ironman marathon. My standalone marathon PR had been 3hours 59 mins. three years prior.

Thank you so much for the great information! I just recently (1-month) got back into running at the young age of 65. Really enjoyed this conversation and I am looking forward to getting the interval timer app and have already ordered my first Jeff Galloway book! I began training for my first 5-K and I am certainly going to use this information to help me get through it! Thank you!!

I want to do a half marathon. This gives me hope that I can do it. Love the idea!

The only issue with the predictions for the marathon from the mile is to encapsulate the idea of fatigue as the distance grows 26 times. For this, I find incorporating the Riegel predictor useful , then you can compare the predictions from Galloway to Riegel. Data from a real half marathon or a 30K would offer significant truth to the predictions rather than taking a blind shot.
