LOL, I always take notes, but I never look at them.
+MinJun “Botchey dog” Kim that's exactly it! You remember so well due to your note taking that you don't need to get back to them >:)
+MinJun “Botchey dog” Kim Thats what I do ;-; I dont know why! I should start actually looking at them!

I use three main types of note taking.
1. The "meeting-minutes" type of notes that serve as a reminders of stuff to put on the to-do list. This includes writing down questions that I need to figure out later.
2. Note taking as a memory aid, and a more active mode of learning and gaining understanding. In class. I would use my "notes" to derive formulas, summarize concepts, and work out problems in parallel with the instructor. This was so effective at helping me understand the material, I rarely needed to go back and review notes of this type.
3. Note taking for research. This is the most difficult type of note-taking for me because it requires the greatest amount of organization. First, I like to create an outline of the topic I am researching. Then I create lists of questions I would like to answer about the sub-topics in the outline. Then I start researching / searching for answers to the subtopic questions. I create a separate sheet for each of the questions, and their answers/evidence, being sure to keep track of the reference information on these sheets. I number the question/answer/reference sheets, then write these page numbers on the outline to index the information I have gathered.
I know it's a bit late but thanks for the technique you shared ❤ wish you all the best 🌟🙌
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
you saved my time for reading tons of articles. what an efficient piece of advice!
1.Write Down Conclusion
-Make Questions
-Make Conclusion Per Sentences
-Understand
2.Use Color
3.Review
-Explain It Into A Classmate
The most useful comment is right here. Thanks for saving my time man.
Thank you very much I was searching for this comment 🤝
Much obliged dude!

What I do is I give my complete attention to the teacher and really try to absorb the lesson, all the while taking quick jot notes. Then when I get home, I re-write the jot notes in a more thorough way. Works like a charm, been getting the best grades for my class since I started ;)
@@0fficer_friendly lmao I didn't expect that
@@0fficer_friendly truee
hi! do you write the notes all on paper? or do you first write them digitally and then on paper when you get home?
Doesn't anybody hate when their teachers/teacher b like "u have 2 write this down because it's gonna b on the test/quiz," and then u write all the useless facts/info, basically write down all the shit, or whatever, study whatever u wrote, and what ur teacher said was important we had 2 write it down, doesn't end up in the test/quiz? -,-
😭😭😭😭
Same here - I think teachers are trying to trick us into focusing on things they won't mention in a test.
+Maitha AlFalasi that is right
yeah!
I know right!!!
notes i took from this video :)
- Write down conclusions instead of facts
1. You will never be able to write down at the same rate someone is delivering you information, thus being an ineffective way of taking notes.
2. Instead of trying to be an audio recorder and write everything down during the lecture you should pay attention to the class and note down keypoints instead of raw data. **Notes should help you learning during class, not after!**
- Use a template for your notes
1. By using different colors, visual structures and multimedia you will be able to remember your notes visually.
2. By setting a set template you will also be able to take them more efficiently.
- Review your notes instead of relearn them
1. Spend time going through your notes **a**fter class to test your comprehension.
2. You can also try teaching the material to a classmate to see if you were really able to learn.
Note taking is more than just a tool to help you graduate it is a life-skill that you should take to daily life. By making it a habit you will also be able to absorb more from the world around you.
good notes! XD
(they're actually pretty good.)
why are you on this video? You need no help, look at your notes! Keep up the good work
YES THIS VIDEO IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEED I'm crap at taking notes...
+doodlist and I have a course that doesn't have a textbook.... I depend on my friggin crap notes :"(
+Trez Cast I don't have textbooks ;)
+TheGloryHunter FV I guess I forgot to mention that he sits on his chair talking the whole lecture away without writing a single letter/number on the board... And that I'm a visual-Kinetic learner... I win this loser game! YEAS!!
+Trez Cast What's a classboard? :o (sarcasm we don't use 'm over here)
An invention that's going to waste, that's what they are. A moment of silence to grief for them and ourselves.
1. Take notes before class
2. Listen in class
3. Do Exercises (better than just rereading b/c you are actively searching for something)
3.5. Do not be afraid to use multiple sources for exercises. There are 100s of different books for some topics.
4. Rinse and Repeat
how do you take notes before class
@@thevideodude-mustard2645maybe you know what's going to be lectured on the following class by looking at the textbook. If your teacher follows the textbook, then you know the material beforehand and can study it before class, so when the teacher is explaining the subject, you'll be able to comprehend better the lesson, but also if you had any doubts at home, now, listening to the teacher, might help to understand what you didn't before. Also you can pay full attention to the lecture and not have to worry about taking notes and understanding what is being explained.
Is anyone else just watching this because school is coming soon?
I am! Lmao
+Kasim Rizvi no im forced to watch this for a first year experience class
+Kasim Rizvi yep -.-
+Kasim Rizvi yupp..
+Kasim Rizvi no my second semester is going on and I don't have any notes....
This helped me like ALOT, every time i have to take notes, this cloud of stress comes over me because the teach be talking so fast its hard to keep up. But with the tips, you gave us I'm able to record important parts of a speech and not just rewriting. I'm actually home school and what i have to say is, you just made this section of learning fun and understandable, videos like this should be in public schools. I appreciate your hard work to make these videos.
Who else was taking notes about this...
me
XD
noteseption
me
Omg your a genius thanks for that idea xD
when the teacher is saying something, i reapeat his/her words in my head
same but still forget later
but your teacher is constantly speaking. so you would have to take the notes resay what the teacher said and listen to what shes saying at the same time
Same but yet I still forget but then the teacher says something new then you try to remember what she said first but the you forget what she said new that is how I forget
Meiツ ill try to use your advice
Video begins at 02:15
correct bro
+Varun Shrma Lol
+Jibreel Ahmed I know its so annoying
Jajajajajaja.
ikrrrrr
I've been taking my notes in question/answer form for a long time... it helps a ton! and also you don't have to make a separate review to study before the test, you already have practice questions!
Listening to you talking about Shakespear makes me grateful that in my language class we either don't talk about important people (anymore) or we're talking about german ones.
But I'm going to try coloring notes. We usually don't really take notes, since most teachers write everything on the blackboard and we just have to copy that. But it will be useful for social studies/history (this year a mixed subject o.Ô) and university next year.
Great video! As a college student, even I have a difficult time taking notes. I have terrible focus and try to copy down everything the teachers say. It's an exhaustive effort. However, this Q&A format may work quite well! Thanks for the tips!
Hey I don’t think you expect someone to like your comment and also comment after 9 whole years.and I also have a hard time focusing in class
these things never work for me, i always end up writing everything :::''''))))))
me too lol :)
the struggles 😭
Dace :/ SAME 😂😂
I write everything then make an outline out of what I wrote.
It works for me
These videos are SO helpful! Thank you so much. Before I watched this my notes were a jumbled mess. Now I am getting better grades in school and understanding what the teacher is saying so much better. And the voices you make keep me focused. Again Thanks SO MUCH!
You guys at Wellcast are awesome! Thank you for caring about the rest of the world in ALL areas!
I have always took good notes but I never did it the same way and that always made me feel as if I'm just not organized:/ but these tips are just amazing! Absolutely love this! I'm now a little excited for school to start now!
This is what I NEED not those aesthetically pleasing notes that are IMPOSSIBLE to take when you’re in class and in a rush duh
Thank you for the effort to post.
Recap:
1. Don't write facts write conclusions and
2. Use questions to make connections and
3. Review notes.
Thanks for watching!!
The most helpful suggestions was to note down conclusions and not facts :)
We have iPads at our school which really changed the way we took notes. It's easy to color code them but some teachers just gave you the PowerPoint with all the notes already on it. Using pictures and sharing study guides are a really nice feature though
ep18 So cultures do affect your hieght of intelligence huh?
I like how you make your videos refreshing, positive and simple. But in this video it really needs some more tips and more specific ones.
revolutionary for me.
i always note down facts on only page per lecture in order to re-visualize lecture in head whenever i go back to notes. it helps me partially. will add points given above and see it improves the whole method.
thanks.
This actually helped me... thank you so much!!
I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this video and it was extremely helpful. I actually do use colored pens but I also incorporate the outline method. Very tedious. The first step is a very good idea that might make note taking much easier. Thank you.
Using this in nursing school rn. The q and a is helpful and so is the colors tip. The questions are mostly priority questions, and helpful for future test questions (I.e. what do u do first when.....).
My teacher said in college when taking notes, you should makes big words into short form to copy the notes quicker to remember, and quicker when writing.
My 9 year old daughter said "this really worked for me. thank you!"
you are an amazing teacher... and a good mind reader of the students... I have always preferred to have visual teaching rather then getting notes of lectures on it... keep it up...
This video makes a lot of good points about how hard it can be to take notes. It goes into how you only actually listen to 1 word of every 10 you hear. Furthermore, it explains very clearly something that most people don't know, taking notes is a form of learning. You learn on a deeper level. Something I think could be touched on perhaps in a different video with a different audience would be how professors can influence how students take notes. When a professor gives a good structure with a PowerPoint presentation is can be easier to take notes as long as it isn't too wordy. Also, people learn really well though active learning which should be explored by teachers as well.
I find this super helpful thank you so much
TexasDancers 4 j
who else NEVER take note? (at least since college, or work, who give you that freedom as long as you deliver)
really guys this is gold than you so much for this video,i was following a medieval way of making notes for years but now i understand this has been holding me back from learning .This is literally gold
Extremely helpful information. Even more helpful if implemented. Much appreciated. Thank you.
For your information, Potter, asphodel and wormwood make a sleeping potion so powerful it is known as the Draught of Living Death. A bezoar is a stone taken from the stomack of a goat and it will save you from most poisons. As for monkshood and wolfsbane, they are the same plant, which also goes by the name of aconite. WELL? Why aren't you all copying that down?
+Liam Mahan Only in your muggle spelling. Muggle!
+KOBUN40 lol....this much obssesed with HP....I know that feeling bro...or sis....why the hell aren't they allowed to use magic to write notes in hogwarts....and sad when u reminded snape
We've got a couple episodes that might help-go to our channel page and check out "Anger Management" and "Workplace Stress." Thanks for watching!
I have to admit that even as a college senior I still struggle with note taking. This is not something that any school I've ever been to teaches, so THANK YOU!
its been 10 years you uploaded this video.
thank you!
I don't have to take notes in my school. At the end of a unit the teacher/s gives us a print out of all the class notes :)
You lucky duckling.
watching this for back to school
I'm glad I'm reading this at the beginning of the semester instead of the middle or the end. I'll pass all subjects this sem! Thanks for the tips.
Thank you so much!! This will help me so much with studying for my pass test this April! (And help me write book reviews for my channel!)
This was such a nice video!!! Funny, well-animated and essential. The thing is: I'm just afraid I'll lose something out of class if I do that. I just want to hear EVERYTHING, write EVERYTHING and make sure I did that at the end of class. More notes means somehow more information for me. I know this is not correct :D, still, I feel this way. Is this a disease?!?! :P
Lalaris Portela you are a true OCD philosopher in the true sense of the word. Philos Sophos. A lover of knowledge. And you take it to critical levels. Welcome to the club!!!! There are treatments, you are probably aware of Phi Theta Kappa. The best way to hear everything and write everything, etc, and to learn everything is like one poster already advised, get a recorder or use your phone to record each lecture. I prefer to use a voice recorder like ones from office depot or something. One with an SD card. Play back anytime anywhere. drop it on your 'puter and load it on any device you want etc. still not sure how or if this video will help me and taking notes or learning.
2:00 actual video starts☺️
How'd you do that??
I miss this channel so much... Such useful videos, just like this one!
Great video. Short, simple, and to the point!
I'm taking notes about a video that teaches you how to take better notes
What would be the difference between a fact and a conclusion?
Nothing really... A conclusion is based off validation of fact, so I suppose what she means is you use facts to come to conclusions.
A conclusion is a summary of the subject you talked about or a summary about the imformation given.
A fact is...um...basically a fact about a subject.
Aedra Daedra in the case of Romeo & Juliet, facts are what happened: people killed each other across family lines; Romeo and Juliet hid their love; Romeo and Juliet killed themselves over a misunderstanding. Conclusion: grudges kill.
Aedra Daedra I dunno
A conclusion is a summary of what you have learned and facts are things that are concrete and can't be change. What she meant was to not write everything but to pick up important information.
EXCELLENT! I will be sharing this video with my high school students ASAP as something that each of them must watch. Thank you.
it’s my PD homework in secondary 😂
FOR CRYING OUT LOUD i needed this video so much😭😭 this was really helpful ive been doing it wrong all this time
One time when I tried to take notes in a class, one of my classmates kicked me in the back (we were on the floor) and the teacher did nothing.
can you do a video on how to stay awake in a really boring class. I'm in AP Gov. class as a freshman and its really boring can you help me? i've tried going to sleep early but that doesn't work! I need your help.
Raebae Today Eat sugar or work out for a bit before class if that doesnt work then youve got another type of problem.
Animate in your mind what is being said. Add color to it. Make it fun.
You’ve judged the class as boring and now it is. Keep telling yourself the class is exciting and it will be. Keep looking for ways for you to love and absorb the info. Make the connection between the info and how it relates to you or somebody you love and you’ll remember it. Ask the teacher for tips & tricks on how to retain the info. Usually, if you don’t like the teacher and cannot connect to them, you’ll hate the class. It’s always about relationship.
I like those 3 steps. I normally use the # 2 method.
Thanks for the notes
I've used this video in class. My students loved it. Thank you so much.
I have a suggestion: how do you focus on doing homework?
you cant because you have add and youre destined to have benefits from life for no reason
Takes a lot of getting used to to learn the colour scheme of your notes...Probably best to write practice notes to get used to it before trying this in a lecture.
Jn7rum
Very helpful, this approach is refreshing for note taking!
The methods are great. They seem to be very practical and easy to apply.
2:13
Step one: Don’t write facts. Write Conclusions
Step two: Use color
Step three: Review
Just saved your time. Your welcome
I find it sad that I passed the AP U.S History test without studying my notes at all.
Why? That's awesome!
I heard from a friend it was suler easy last year. This year they changed all the material soo
Tizzy.Marie
I am taking the class this year, and from what is said by my teacher, it has changed. Everything now is based off of historical thinking skills and themes. If you take good notes, you can do good in the class. I haven't done grade A work in that class yet, and that's really why I am here.
Marcus I'm in the same sucking at APUSH boat.
These tips helped so much for me!!! Thank you Wellcast!
I had my first real lecture at uni today, in chemistry that is, and there's such a huge flood of information that is actually important to understand the complex task at hand, that merely writing short conclusions or notes every now and then seems impossible. Dx
How do you write conclusions for physics lol, basically everything is facts.
Yuristable Celestene well you make the fact shorter so it's easier to remember. Or you can write it in your own words.
I'm not sure what kind of physics you are taking, but I think most of the information relates to each other. It is in that relationship which one can establish connections and conclusions.
+dudesfriend You can't really make the facts shorter without losing important information and most of it is figgers graphs and occasionally drawings luckily for many modules the lectures are slowed working through the problems they use as examples and correcting the odd mistake when they finish, but it's very hard work and I still ended up taking pretty bad notes.
The best that can happen is for the lecturers to film their lectures, which one did for 2 modules in my final year and it made a massive difference.
+Yuristable Celestene Physics? just write down the formulas, what each formula is for, and the relationships between formulas. Take note of any graphs the teacher writes down to explain something with brief descriptions. You can write down examples the teacher solves with you, and some facts that the teacher says that you feel is important. Ppl usually study physics from textbooks, so your notes are simply references that'll help you if you get stuck. And LOTS of youtubers explain physics, so you're fine even if you don't get your textbook...
My teachers don't let me jot stuff down, they say I'll be too slow and miss half the lesson!😣
Thank you for the useful and practical note taking skills or 3 step method. These are highly appreciated. :) Will be taking a test soon. Hopefully :) Things would get better. :) Many thanks
It's my first time watching your video and I'm in love with you already! Keep it up!
What if I take my notes only on my laptop? How am I going to do what you said on my laptop? Thanks in advance :)
+ZiyaD Bin Fahad I take note by laptop with Powerpoint
+ZiyaD Bin Fahad You remember better with hand written notes, but if you use a laptop:
-Use bullets points
-highlighter tool
-and font color
My Advise: Have a phone with *active noise cancellation,* record the lecture, sit in a front row or near speaker if your classroom is big. Take note and review later, Concentrate during lecture, pens down!
+ZiyaD Bin Fahad You should download OneNote. It has a built in recording feature so you can try recording the lesson while typing notes and then you can listen to it again if you want to make sure you got everything. Then maybe write out your notes since it helps you remember them better.
Test Anxiety! I have terrible test anxiety! HELP!!!!!
Susan K days before the test, repeat to yourself "I'm going to ace this test. I know my stuff. I understand everything, and I'll pass" walk into the class like you're the boss. Be confident. Even if you're not confident, act confident.
Thanks for the advice. I will try it.
Susan K write down all your worries on a sheet of paper before going into the exam
Woow! All of your videos are really great.I like it especially drawings. Thank you!!
can u do how to be motivated to study
If you color code that helps
think about good things that going to happen if you study.. like an A or a reward
How to stay focused in classes.
Love your channel, please do more vids!
Thank you, I am actually adding it to my google classroom site. suggestions for topic - Cornell notes and how to keep focused in class. Thank you :)
nobody heard that glitch
Is that ousfia
What about history class when all we get is facts?
Not everything is about facts. They do carry themes. What was the probable cause that sparked Hitler's rise to power. Learning this way is much faster than listing down all the facts and then concluding that this led to Hitler's rise. Regurgitation of facts is a B student, an A student is able to draw strong parallels with related incidences and conclude with his own substantiated opinion
moonshiry facts can be found in text books. But the thought process is more valuable. Everyone can read history, its how you use those facts that separate them.
moonshiry I disagree somewhat. While your advice is GREAT for some, your conclusion is wrong for others, like myself. I am horrible at history and would pretty much write as much as I could for notes. I would go over them a little right before tests and I ended up with a 104 final average with a little extra credit. I was dead certain I was going to get a B in that class and I was the top scorer in all of my teacher's different classes last semester. I couldn't draw conclusions to save my life, I regurgitated my way to an A++, too bad that can't be reflected in translation to the 4.0 letter grade!!! History is about facts. Math is about facts. I ain't saying you're wrong, just saying what you are correct about does not apply to 100% and I don't have a clue of what percentage it does apply to, but I am not one of them. Were it not for factual regurgitation, I would not be in Phi Theta Kappa
You can write the conclusions to things that are important like when did the Civil War start and end and other
So also you don't need to look through your book or look it up you already have everything important
As an educator this will engage students to help them take great notes. Thank you.
Awesome presentation and ideas!
starts at 2:03...
o-o I can hear the audio glitches where they used
'Noise Reduction'.
God that's distracting .
As a video maker, I'm interested--please tell me where you hear these?
You can hear them just before and just after the speaker starts or stops, also they appear whenever a breath is taken. Use a pair of high quality headphones, if you'd like.
i think maybe its not noise reduction but a gate effekte that only lets loud enough stuff get through
2:44 listen to the word "grudges"
Yeah it was.weird. but I think it's glitches
Love your art style!
My guide to writing notes.
1. When your teacher starts talking, start to record it with your phone.
2. When you come home and is going to study, listen to the recorded file.
3. Write down your with your own words, the most important things the teacher said.
4. Try to really understand what the things you wrote mean, and remember them.
Doing this, you don't need to write while you teacher is talking (you can't pause real life, but you can pause recordings) and you won't fail tests because your mind wandered off or you fell asleep :D
Anyone else notice that they sold their website?
+TheConfuzzledCat did they?
Yeah, I looked up "watchwellcast.com" and it said it was under construction, so they sold it to someone who's building a website.
lol
i dont understand the colored pen thing
It's a way of differentiating information on a page.
Say you're taking notes for a history class- there's more than just people you need to remember; there's places, maybe some dates, and all the key details related to those things. You could write all people down in red, places in green, dates in blue, and let's say key details are underlined in purple.
If you do that ^^^, then you can quickly skim a page of your notes and your brain will latch on to where the colors are and what's written in them.
Make sense?
+Platypus Person thanks dude :)
PHOENIX thanks
Going to try this methodology (conclusion writing, color pen usage, & 10 min review), will soon let you guys know about its efficacy and effectiveness :)
Haha, loving the voice of the teacher.
Charming animation, as well. Nice video!
who else is here because ur mom said to learn how to take notes
me
Homework? :/
Thanx thanx thanx thanx!!!!!!!!!!! I used some color along whith that question answer explanatin thing on my homework (and I know its for notes but...yah) and it worked! It changed the way that i was going to do my english homework (the hard boring, non colorfull, pain staking, headache making way!!!) ^-^ love it
I'd like to start by saying "THANK YOU" all 3 steps were very clear and straight to the point. Like anything they will take practice by applying them over time, nonetheless very helpful.
This was kinda annoying
thank you so much for these videos well all these videos they've been so helpful in my life ty so much
Teaching a friend and
learning from a friend , it will be so good
You can remember it forever
Thanks , it is helpful for me to know that writing conclusions instead of facts while taking notes . Huge thanks again .
Thank you so much for this video it's so helpful unlike those other videos that just take notes bc they look pretty and don't help at all
Hey I just recently subscribe to WellCast :D These videos are really amazing and fun to watch ! Super helpful+ educational.
-Love your animations !
