    Sure brings back memories. Lived in SB for 25 years. Did this route in about a dozen different motorcycles and vehicles starting about 35 years ago now.

    I woke up to that gorgeous view every single day for almost a decade. It is absolutely amazing at night when the atmosphere is perfectly clear. I lived at the very end of West Camino Cielo where the pavement ends by the gun range. We lived completely off grid with a wind machine and solar panels and a solar powered hot tub and in the earlier days we grew a lot of great weed! The weather up there is extremely gnarly to live in year-round. Gnarly winds and gnarly bugs and an amazing amount of rain in winter. On a heavy winter we had 82 inches of rain up there where Santa Barbara only got about 30. Rode my motorcycle and mountain bike out to Reagan's ranch at Refugio Road many times. Loved playing around out there. The G in Refugio is pronounced with an H. Thanks for the fun video! That was great.

    Next time you do the trail, you should head out towards Buellton at the fork at the end instead of going to the beach. Its the best section of the drive. Not technical at all but the tree cover is awesome!

    Drove it last Saturday with crazy marine fog that’s been rolling in.
    Most beautiful view to see when it’s completely clear and sunny out on one side and the clouds sitting below on the other. Really is the road in the sky “Camino Cielo”

    This vid was one suggested by UA-cam, what a find! I’m in Ventura and sooo tired of watching with envy as all these off roaders play around in Sand Hallow, Moab, etc.
    I’ve been part of a local 4x4 club but their runs are all Mojave based, which is fun, but I had no idea there were some trails MUCH closer by. I’ve got a stock Gladiator Rubicon I’m looking to get out in the dirt, now I have a trail to hit, thanks!

    One of the most beautiful drives I've done, but I haven't done the whole trail. I went up to where the radio towers are at and then turned back like 2-3 yrs ago. I think the rest of the trail was closed towards Refugio. It's a pretty easy trail for the most part. I did it in my 2011 Honda Pilot 4WD. I wanna go back and camp up there for a night or two. I also have AT tires now too. Nice Jeep btw. I want to get an FJ Cruiser for my next vehicle.

      @wjoverland5109  5 місяців тому +1

      The WJ with Quadra drive is a Vera lock system. The rear works perfect it’s the front that needs a locker but because it’s all time 4 wheel I can’t put one in with out changing the axel.. anyway… I have climbed everything I have attempted… the front slips but! it seems to get me up where I wanna go! Cheers! Thanks for watching!

      And once you are out there on that dirt road you can camp anywhere and no one will bother you. Unless you run into some drunks who like to shoot out their window while they are driving. And I lived up there so that does happen! 😂

      I’m gonna do a walk around sooner or later, I get a lot of requests for that but I keep going on adventures! 😁🤟

    Very cool, I live near by and didn’t know about this road. Is it wide enough to easily fit full size trucks? I tried several trails at Rock Front Ranch and most were too narrow due to the overgrown brush.
    How long does it take to complete the trail? Do you have to come out the same way or does it drop you out somewhere?

    • @wjoverland5109
      @wjoverland5109  Місяць тому +1

      Mostly it’s a fire road, full size trucks no problem. You can go all the way through or you can go out and back .. I’m guessing it’s about 12 miles.

      Go up highway 154 out of Santa Barbara and you will make a left on West Camino Cielo. At the gun range the pavement ends. The road used to be wide open all the way to Refugio, and there you can go down to Highway 101 or you can make a right down the backside and end up in the Santa Ynez valley. But I don't know if they are open anymore after the storms.
