With straws is dangerous! it can actually obstruct airways and if somebody falls asleep it can be dangerous they can also accidentally get bumped and jam up into the nostril making a person bleed. The video is sped up they were very much clearing the bottom of the nose and making sure it did not seal around the nostril nor did it cover.
@@vozera723 The entire concept of using the straws is for extra safety aka less danger. The point of the straw is to not collapse the airways but keep them open. Knowing that the straws are in one should be super aware of that and not bump into them. If u do ur probably too clumsy to be working on something of this calibre in the first place. The straws don't necessarily need to be placed in the nose either, it can go in the mouth. Ik the video is sped up and I don't see them clearing it at all despite the video being sped up. Also I do this for a living myself.
@@thatgirl1887 yeah I also do this, I guess it's different techniques. doing straws in the mouth can change your mouth shape so if you're doing a prosthetic it can sometimes come out wonky or not fit the face properly. what I see is that the person was able to breathe perfectly fine and it's not like we have audio so they could have been talking asking her if she's good and if she could breathe. I've seen many life casts being done without straws going anywhere. you also can't necessarily blame somebody for being "clumsy" there are different disorders that cause people to be more clumsy, and it doesn't really affect much motor function; just enough to where things can happen, also accidents happen all the time two people that are not described as clumsy.

If a person has been awkward in their handling of their task at hand enough to the point where they bump into their client in an unprofessional manner and their client is now injured - they're clumsy. I call it as I see it. I'm very careful and aware of my surroundings while working on pieces like that because I understand as a professional that I have to be.

I was taught by Makeup effects people in film to not add straws bc they can cause more harm if they're hit. So long as they're not covering her nasal passages then she'll be okay!
y’all they closely watch the nose and move any of the product from getting in the nostrils, straws can be just as dangerous and claustrophobia/anxiety inducing. I’ve been fast casted multiple times and have done it on others straws are not necessarily required as long as you’re carefully watching for the nostrils as they did.

I did this!! Also without straws. It feels like being buried alive. Being removed from the cast feels like what I can only assume being reborn feels like. Every space on you being touched completely, it is HEAVY and you are being pressed into from every nook and angle. On your face, chest, neck, everywhere. Its like drowning in heavy water, if the panic sets in. I am personally claustrophobic, but I was able to do it and stay calm inside myself. Definitely an unsettling feeling though. If it barely covers your nostril too much, it can suck up with one breath, and make you feel like you are drowning. Very scary. Happened a couple times. I did it with fellow sculpting students in college!! I don't regret it one bit. It was super cool.
As someone who has ACTUALLY gotten a face cast before, you arent supposed to put straws in because it is acrually more dangerous and makes it harder to breathe. Typically during the process there will be one person whose role is dedicated to making sure that nothing blocks your nostrils. Also i would like to say a lot of people actually kind of enjoy the process, as ling as they dont have claustrophobia! It has a similar effect to a sebsory deprevation tank. ALSO, just want to preface for ppl freaking out, the person can take it off easily within the case of an emergency

@@literallylondonnusually it’s to help make prosthetics that’ll fit the face of the model you’re using like right now in my class we are building clay on top of the castings to make a mold so we can make foam prosthetics it’s just to get the right fit for the model so it doesn’t look odd on the face and you can use it for many other things I’m sure but my class just hasn’t got to that so I don’t know much about them other than that
I had a friend do this with a professional and I was there just to keep an eye on her for him. She was fine one moment and having a seizure from lack of oxygen the next - as someone who had never ever had one before. She was -fine- but continued to have weird panick attacks for weeks that I can only attribute to having done this. So uh... nah... You could not pay me to do this.
An art teacher I helped in high school needed a cast model, so I volunteered and came after school one day. She had me lie on a work table and did a full face cast. But it was much more relaxing while laying down, and she put straws in my nostrils, so it was easy to breathe and less anxiety inducing 😅
I had my face done like this for a theatrical makeup college course and I found it so relaxing. I also have a bit of claustrophobia, but for me it's in enclosed spaces where I can't move my body. Something like this where I can ask for assistance or could easily rip it off if need be doesn't really bother me.
I like all of the newly found experts in the comments about casting! Very cool. And also, the model has hands, and the medium is not hard to remove. If the model can’t breathe, they signal, and the medium is removed.
For everyone mentioning straw in the nose, i did that when i did this to myself, it doesnt help at all, infact my nose ran into the straw and blocked it, i coudnt breath for a solid minute because the straws were stuck in place in the plaster. So no straws, theyre just as dangerous, you just gotta be so careful not to block the nose, so if it runs it just runs onto the plaster, and for the love of god dont do it by yourself.

They're supposed to put small hoses/straws in your nostrils to prevent them from getting covered and inhibiting breathing.
