Regarding pricing your offerings: something I heard on this same topic (different industry, but same philosophy) is to remember that you ARE NOT your target market! The market YOU are in is the one where you are doing the work yourself; your BUYERS' market is the convenience of someone else starting the work FOR them
At my Spring plant yard sale, I sell herbs and flowers suitable for making teas and heirloom tomatoes. And I have the sale on the second Saturday in May. I live in a small mountain town. The local hardware store sells all the vegetable starts and a good supply of herbs. But they are completely out of stock , except for a few scraggly tomatoes, by the first of May. So I sell slightly larger plants for those people who couldn't get their veges in April, or want a few more. This way I'm not competing with the business in town.
Excellent video thank you so much. I am on the beginning journey of doing this for a fundraiser and I found your video so very helpful. Thank you. Hope you have a great day.
Love all the tips encourages me to take a chance and go for it, I am kinda backward and do not like putting myself out there but believe I can do it with all your advice! Thanks
Loved the video! This type of thought process is so helpful. This info is what no one usually talks through. I love plants and garden videos but the thought process of the business side is so helpful and not really clear on other videos. What I am getting while you talk about this is inspiration. Thank you so much for figuring out a teachable way to talk through your business process without making it overwhelming. 💚
Great advice. Profit is not a dirty word. I am looking forward to the plant sale ... Already booked our hotel. Carry yourself a chair too! That baby just needs to hang tight until I get my tomato plants! 🍅
Great advice! It's always nice to grow for cheap or give away to friends and family but when you grow for profit keeping your set price is the hardest advice we give but have trouble following. I struggle alot of selling to friends that think because we know each other I should give it to them. You are correct on saying it's not fair to other farmers it definitely de-values everyones product.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I’ve been planning on doing a plant sale this year and you just confirmed everything I have been thinking and planned so far. The only thing I haven’t really planning out yet is pricing. Waiting to see how much I spend on soil and possibly containers first. 😃
I usually end up having to give away a bunch of seedlings every year.. My yard is so small but I get overexcited and start way too many plants lol 🌱💕 I'll maybe have to consider this for the future 😋 Great info as always! Thanks for sharing!
Another great informative video this is my first year doing this thank you so much for the good content . Looking forward to seeing how you start them all .
Thanks for the great info. This will be my first time selling at the farmers market. I'm nervous but excited. I've been growing a long time but never sold my starts or produce. :)
Looking forward to your seedling sale! We got our grow lights out and cleaned them up for another year. We enjoy your channel! If yall need anything, give us a shout! Mary & Justin--Greenhill Farm, Benton.
Just an FYI, the instagram name you have in your description is not correct. I had to search around for you and finally found you, but it was not what you have listed in the video description.
Girl my favorite part is the bloopers at the end. Love it! And I reallllyy want to do plant sales this year! I’m trying hard to not get overwhelmed but with your encouragement I think I’m just gonna jump in and take a chance. 🤞🏻😅😜 Thanks for all the tips and advice! 💚🌱
Very good information! I used to go the last hour of craft fairs/sales because vendors don’t want to take lots of items home. I was thinking of hosting a plant table by the side of the road in my town for house plants/extra seedlings. I ended up giving them away instead and already was sent an email asking for more free plants. Please get a card reader! I rarely carry cash in the quantity needed for sales. Personally if I set up a table this year it will have to be cash only and in a drop box honor system with a sign donations welcome, otherwise I have to get a permit from my town. HOW’S THE BABY? Kicking in the bloopers? 💕
Baby Is doing great and just cooking away! I know a local flower farmer that has great success with drop box/honor system flower bouquets. It’s worth a shot!
Super helpful! I love growing all the things and usually start so much that I give them away but I have been thinking about selling out of my yard. My biggest struggle is, I don't know what to charge...how do I go about pricing plants?
Think the most expensive part of the set up is the pots. They seem such a waste and is a continuous expense, also, when people plant their plants they throw the pots away. Trying to think of an alternative such as cardboard toilet roll inserts or pots made from newspaper, not sure if that would put people off buying from me.
If someone undercuts everyone else then the result is people think they are worth less and sales at a reasonable price become difficult. The goal is to make a bit of money and there are some costs, seeds, soil, water, pots, your grow light setup.

Think about donating extras to food banks or childrens homes or homeless shelters
Absolutely! We ended up donating extras to a local school last year.

I’d take a look at what your local nurseries are pricing. Consider that your product may be worth a little more than that.
Hagglers can be nasty.
Soooo, you all talk about price fixing? How about that. Shady way to do business. Sherman Antitrust Act
