    I’ve been playing the league card game for a while and they’ve been consistently expanding and improving on their single player side of the game and I hope project L offers the same. My league friends who play Runeterra mostly play the single player and the updates keep them in the game.
    Most of us on the fgc don’t care that much about single player but we all know that the casual audience wants more of it and project L having a good single player mode will undoubtedly be good for the community and would fulfill a need other fighting games can’t fill

    • @ladjiel
      @ladjiel 3 роки тому +7

      @@sonicthehedgehog1416 no offense tho, but the thing is lot of f2p game focused on multiplayer gameplay that include lot of "social interaction" to make the game not boring and people still wanted to played it, exclusivity (or something that make them feel special) is what make people want to buy something when they already "in love with it", so basically they could make people love the game by the "core gameplay" and make them buy lot of exclusive stuff once they already in love with the game (just like skin, win pose, color customization, story for the character, rarity item, etc), the main idea of f2p game monetization is to make the player/audience love or care about the game first, then it will make them buy lot of stuff about the thing they love or care within the game (thus thats why cosmetic is one of kind to make the player feel special about something that they already enjoy and love about the game)
      Also there's lot of way to monetize the game just like what dota 2 did (a free core game, with full roster), and they mainly focused on "battlepass" and international tournament for the potential earning from lot of sponsorship as their main monetization (yes, skin and other misc cosmetic also a factor)
      My point is, just make the basic/core gameplay free, and then the other feature (like story, skin, battle pass, fun mode, arcade mode, minigame, misc cosmetic, etc) as their main way of monetization, they could also include half or maybe all of the side feature for free, but its "optional" to make it free, cuz the thing that matter is the core/basic game which will be mostly played by the general audience
      Basically we are not "paying for the full game" so its kinda fine if they doesnt give the full game to the audience, which back to my point that they should just give the "core/basic game" as free and monetize other side feature that arent the main gameplay of the game, so i hope that they just let the full roster free, free training mode, free frame data, free hitbox/hurtbox indicator, and other free basic feature of a FGs, but put other side feature behind paywall (or if they generous, then put the story prologue free to be played but the next chapter till finale behind the paywall), the problem with SFV lack of story mode is that we are paying "fully priced game" to just get the basic/core function of the game
      Again, no offense, and sorry if it sound kinda harsh

      execution is not an arbitrary component of fighting games, if the execution is too easy it ultimately would reduce the depth of the game.

    • @BlazeMakesGames
      @BlazeMakesGames 3 роки тому +2

      @@polkunus but it’s something only new players struggle with. It’s almost entirely a massive wall that makes the barrier of entry way too high for most interested people to get on board.
      Hell, the origins of these inputs are literally anti-player. The whole point of having these weird inputs back in the arcade days was that they were secret moves that encouraged people to keep pumping quarters in to find and master. They were literally designed to be unintuitive and harder to pull off for most people.
      And honestly imo you could maintain about 90% or more of the “depth” these bad inputs provide while simplifying the controls.
      I mean is anyone saying that DMC or Bayonetta lacks depth? They have absurdly complex combos and move sets arguably bigger than most fighting game characters, Yet those sorts of games do it all while not having inputs more complex than back, forward + button.
      Yes obviously you can’t just rip them out of a game with 0 consequence because they’ve been designed around the limitations they create, but a new game built from the ground up with simpler inputs in mind can easily be just as complex as a game that insists you learn how to do pretzel inputs consistently.
      Hell I would argue that these complex inputs are a very artificial crutch for fighting game design. Instead of designing a move to be balanced no matter what, you design it to be harder to do, and all that does is alienate more casual players and create artificial gates that pr event even dedicated players from competing at a high level unless they learn some 1 frame parry or weird combo thing or whatever. Which imo is not healthy for a multiplayer game.
      Games like Rocket league do this kind of thing much better imo. It’s extremely simple to control, but there’s still oceans of depth to master. RTS games are another example. All you need to control it is moving a mouse around and the ability to hit some keyboard hotkeys. Yet once again oceans of depth materialize from the actual depth of the gameplay itself. Learning how to control a game is the most boring part and it feels like you haven’t even started playing yet. Games should be designed so that the controls are intuitive and able to be understood immediately or as soon as possible. When I’m learning how to do special moves and combos in a fighting game, it feels like homework. Meanwhile exploring combos in practice modes are fun in DMC because I’m just trying out moves together rather than learning how to do the move in the first place.

    I'm glad they're taking their time. Without a doubt this project hinges on getting it right the first time. I believe it's becoming a common sentiment that we are seeing the same mistakes repeated with FGs. Sure, we're getting new titles in beloved series but the online features and core gameplay doesn't see much innovation. My hope is that this game makes a strong case for simple inputs not detracting from creativity and complexity.

    I like the idea, but I really want to know how they will deal with the "no motion inputs" stuff. Like what about dp and fireballs, are they going to be one button? and what about charge characters?
    Big part of balancing those moves comes from how complex the inputs are, so I'm really curious about how they will deal with that.

    • @squeezlebub3593
      @squeezlebub3593 3 роки тому +73

      I mean the answer is fairly simple honestly, don’t create moves that are balanced because of difficult inputs. Just like you balanced certain moves around the fact that they are hard to do, balance moves around the fact that you can do them easily. Think moves like Zangief’s SPD, a move like that wouldn’t work on one button. You could alternatively make the move say, slow enough that it’s reactable, but give it armor (think Z Broly’s command grab). Both are perfectly good designs for command grabs, it’s just one of them is balanced around having to do a complete butter-churning 360 to do the damn thing in the first place.
      Just because lots of fighting game moves are balanced behind having difficult inputs, doesn’t mean that’s the only way to do it.

Even some of the big names that were hyper-critical keep returning and agree that it's landed properly and is here to stay. If they manage to do the same here it might even lift a lot of attention back to the genre compared to how it is now. That's just how big Riot is. But please: be prepared for a lot of crying. Many people new to FGs will join and won't ''get it'' (not at first at least). Same happens with Halo Infinite right now.
