@@-nYs-what he said is realistic tbh. Based on how Carr an the rest of the team played over the last 5 or 6 games, they would have been a SB contender. Unfortunately Carr needed time to adjust to the new team, and the OC needed time to figure out Carr. Double unfortunately, it took the OC until the last 6 weeks to figure out that play action existed, which set the offense way back over the 1st half of the season.
If we get an as good or better version of the saints offense that closed out last season, Saints will be a powerhouse. They will win 11+ games. If Kool aid and Chase Pan out, the defense will be elite, even if ML isn't 100%.
I predict the run game will struggle again, but not be as bad as last season (bottom 3). Good thing is, saints have a QB who can carry an offense, as he's proven over and over (including last year). So, it's entirely reasonable to think Saints will be a good team.
Only 2 things could prevent this.
1 The OL is terrible. Carr is still good even with terrible OL's, but mixing in a new system on top of that will make the 1st half of the season rough.....just like last season.
2 Kubiak is a bust as OC. This is the least likely to happen, as there is solid evidence that he will be a very good OC. Cousins played very well under Kubiak, and Carr is better than Cousins (anyone who knows QB's and understands the situations each QB was in knows this). Cousins gets credit for being better bc he's had an elite WR making his 50/50 passes look good the last couple years.
Anyway, as long as the OL can be not terrible, Saints are in for a very good season.....that could very well end up with a ring.

The less snaps taysom takes at qb the better tbh, he needs to be used less in order to keep the defenses guessing the times hes in, also carr can run the qb draw here and there if needed as defenses will expect it even less and he doesnt get thrown out of rythm in a 3rd and 14 like lots of times last season

Ppl have the wrong idea in general. Just bc Kubiak likes to run the ball, doesn't mean Saints are going to be a run heavy team. They're going to focus on what they're the best at doing. If that's passing the ball, then they'll be a pass heavy offense..... which is exactly what I think will happen.
The OL will struggle, at least initially, and in that time they'll have to lean on the pass game to score points. Maybe once the OL gels they'll be more balanced, but there's a chance that doesn't happen until much later in the season, if at all (if last season is any indication).
It will be heavy screens and dump offs to simulate a run game, combined with deep passing to keep defenses honest. I just don't see them suddenly being great at run blocking, esp with most of the same starters coming back.

Not to nitpick, but just one minor correction. Payton arrived in 2006, after the Katrina season (2005) in which the Saints went 3-13. They were 10-6 in 2006, a 7 win improvement. So, technically, 18 years of the same offense. Close enough to call it 20, but he didn't arrive in 2005. His hire date was January 18, 2006, so it wasn't even the 2005 calendar year.

James it’s funny how everyone was completely ripping on Carr last year but he was in a new offense with all new receivers and most were 1st or second year players and hurt for some game time. I got to looking around and Aaron Rodgers had a similar season in 2022 when he had new receivers but was in the same system he had been in for years and I don’t remember Rodgers getting trashed. I really believe the new system is great but more important Carr with most of the same receivers for a second season is what will take this team to the playoffs. Green Bay had a similar ending to their season in 2022 winning 4 of 5 of their last games.

@@BrentonBannister-gc2ptbuilt in excuses? Literally no QB in NFL history has been successful in the situations that Carrs been in. Hell, in 2020 the Raiders defense gave up the most points in a season that Raiders have ever given up, averaging 30+ PPG. They are only the 2nd team in NFL history to win more then 7 games giving up 30+ PPG. Both teams won 8 games, so Raiders tied the record. No QB was going. Raiders had, by far, the worst defense in the NFL from '13-'22. It's not even close. That 10 season span is arguably the worst stretch of defensive play EVER. Only 1 team even comes close (Chargers in the 60's).
No QB wad going to be successful with the Raiders in that time. That's not an excuse, it's a fact. The fact Carr earned 4 pro bowls in that situation (along with 5 HC's and 6 OC's) is mind boggling. It was by far a worse situation then Stafford was in with Detroit, who had similar success (and damn near identical stats) as Carr with Raiders.

Also, Brees had15 years of consistency with Payton who catered to Brees to maximize his talent. If Carr had 15 years with the Saints under the same system, his numbers may even be better than Brees’ because Carr is a true gunslinger by nature with a stronger arm and he was even more accurate than Brees on 3 step drop back passes.

This is why I think Micky Loomis and the Saints are a great organization. They found their franchise QB in a veteran Derek Carr and decided to rebuild. Well maybe not rebuild so much but more like retool the offense. The defense is solid with Cam, Carl, Demario, and Tyrann as the veteran leaders at all 3 levels and they probably brought them all in for a meeting and told them last year was going to be a year for Carr to get familiar with the players and set his foot as a leader on offense. That's why we didn't hear them bitch or complain too much about the losses. They already knew that Pete was going to get replaced and told him to run plays to get Carr familiar with everybody's abilities on offense from the weapons to the Oline. That's why the Saints offense didn't look like they had an identity and why you hear a lot of positives coming out of camp this year especially from the defense giving the offensive scheme props. I think the Saints are going to come out fast and stay fast and allow Carr to command this offense as if it was a 2-minute drill from the get-go to smack opposing defenses in the mouth to the point where their offense can't recover. I'm super excited for the Saints this season especially for Carr who finally is surrounded with talent on the offensive and defensive side. I stand my prediction that the Saints will end up 15-2 and win the division. WhoDat!!! Carr Go Vroom!!!

Here's another example. If a running back has 10 carries for 100 yards it looks like a great game right. 10 yards per carry! But if he had 9 carries for 1 yard and 1 carry for 91 yards, was it really a good performance?

Points per game is still & will remain important, as long as the “team with the most points” is how “who wins the game” is decided.
“Yards per play” is meaningless, if you have a horrible “points per game”.
“Yards per play” is an efficiency stat, & yes, a higher number is better.
    It’s also typically more predictive.
However, if you struggle in the red zone and turn the ball over a lot, it will mean nothing, but you efficiently moved the ball in games that you lost, because you didn’t score enough points.

    • @lifeisboss7097

They both have their uses but you almost always want to use underlying metrics instead of surface stats to predict future stats. If we accept that the saints aren't winning the superbowl this year, I dont especially care how many points they score. What I care about is if the offense will work in the future or not. There are very few times where if there is a massive difference between underlying stat and what it is predicting and there is a clear reason for the difference (in baseball it would be something like fly ball to home run rate affecting FIP, the ERA predictor) such as red zone TD rate but outside of outliers like that basically always PPG will fluctuate further from expected than YPP, which means YPP will predict future PPG better than current PPG.

@@lifeisboss7097 There’s a lot of wisdom in “Old School Football” philosophy.
To quote a College Football coach from the 80’s, with a heavy Southern Accent on what his team needed to do to win the game.
“We need to run the ball, pass the ball & score a lot of points. We need to stop the other team from running the ball, passing the ball, & scoring a lot of points. We also need to protect the ball and take the ball away.”.
That covers everything that a team needs to do to win a championship and you don’t need to be concerned with EPA, YPP, etc.
At the end of the day, DA & Derek Carr won’t have jobs at the end of the season if they don’t score points and more importantly WIN games.
They can have the BEST YPP in the entire NFL, if they don’t make the playoffs & probably win playoff games, no one in the Saints fandom will hate DA or DC any less.
Also, analytics don’t work the same in Football as baseball, because the sample size is so much smaller, and games are often decided by a bounce of the ball.
Heck, the Saints had the 8th best points differential in the entire NFL last season, and they were Winston and the Saints blowing a 17 point 2nd half lead away from winning the division and hosting a playoff game, instead they lost the division on a 4th tier tiebreak to the Bucs, that for some reason are treated like they had a way better season than the Saints?

Same goes for After further review with Matt Mascona. Those guys are just too negative for me. If you listen to those guys, the Saints and Derek Carr are the absolute worst thing going in the NFL. And I know that is not the case at all. The Saints are trending in the right direction and I'm sick of these no talent, cancerous journalists just trying to get clicks.

Over the 1st 10 games, sure.....bc the pass game was still finding their rhythm and the run game was non-existent. That lead to a very hard to watch offense over the 1st half of the season.
Once Pete figured out that play action worked even w/I a run game, Carr made a huge leap, carrying the offense on is back. They were a top 5 offense over the last 5 or 6 games, and it was entirely bc of the passing game. Thankfully Kubiak is smarter than Pete, and will be using play action from the very 1st game. So they should be a fun offense to watch this season.

Apparently you aren't aware that Carr was literally the best QB in the NFL over the last 5 weeks of last season.....with the playoffs on the line, and even against several top 10 defenses.
It's not his fault the backup QB went 0-3 in the games he played while Carr was injured (the QB so many saints fans thought was better than Carr 😂). Dude managed to blow a 17-0 lead when he took over in the 3rd quarter. You almost have to TRY to lose in that situation, lol.
No, Carr has more then proven himself. Maybe some day all his detractors will educate themselves and finally be able to recognize what a good QB looks like (without having to look at the teams record to have a guess at it 😂).

@@goldenking562LBC only casual fans think QB's win or lose, esp in the playoffs. That's asinine.
The media dumbs down the NFL for casual fans, reinforcing the idea that QB's win or lose. Anyone with a shred of FB knowledge knows better.
If saints had the same exact defense from '14-'16, only over Brees entire career, hes never seen as an elite QB. That's bc he couldn't win with a defense that bad. No QB can. Doesn't matter. Raiders defenses were WORSE then that. So yeah, no, Carr (or any QB fit that matter) wasn't going to be successful with the Raiders. That's not his fault, that's the Raiders fault.....which they admitted once Carr signed with the Saints.
Educate yourself, bc no self respected fan of the game would EVER use playoff wins or loses to judge an individual player.
