Based my (very) small DIY channel on jobs I've taught myself to do. Learned more than I ever expected. Actually changed the steering rack out of my wife's Sienna, and am getting ready to finish redoing the front suspension on a friend's Civic. Got tired of paying chain butcher shops to change oil hand me a ticket for $1000 of "recommended" repairs...and I've never looked back.
'chain butcher shops' are not your pal. They at there to make money... You can find a reliable pro mechanic shop or local skilled mobile mechanic and pay them and thank them. Do NOT argue or try to negotiate!
Ernest, for goodness sakes get that big truck back on the road. It hurts to watch you go back and forth to the Ranger to get a screwdriver or other odd tool when you could have everything at hand in one place. Save time and money. Kepp up the great work and great videos. Love watching a pro at work.
Easiest way I found to get the fuel pump to lock in with the new rubber O ring is grease it up really good and it goes back together like butter! No fighting trying to get the o ring to slip around the pump and the lock ring to lock in place .
good thinking ... I use ChapStick to lubricate electric guitar parts and find the small tubes free at the local basketball court as well as clothes and balls... I give them away to those who need them.
@@moshet842 easy tasks you can do or learn to do can save a lot of money. Spark plugs and coils are a good example and oil/transmission fluid changes are dirty but simple. Some easy jobs are not worth spending time and money on, so let a local guy do them and just pay him!
I'm not a mechanic but I like to work on my own vehicle 03 Blazer . I've done easy jobs like alternators, starters ,fuel pumps, lower and upper intake gaskets, suspension work, brake jobs oil changes ,transmission gasket and oil change. Oh and spark plugs 😅😅
good thinking... I have learned that I am pretty good at most jobs and a few I have never been good at ... so I leave them alone and hire a skilled person to do it. And as you get older , your senses start to get weaker... get ready~
I have that exact same cig lighter extender in my car! Lol. Legit the same one, the adhesive thing failed, I ended up drilling holes in my center console and zip tying it to stay nice and tight so it didn't melt the adhesive and fall off during summers. Great product to toss out there on an ad. Love your content too, keep up the great work!
When did American car makers start getting a clue about putting the fuel tank under the back seat? Japanese car makers have been doing that for years to make the fuel pump much easier to access.
The "super weird" design is because the car has a saddle shaped tank. That hose is for pulling gas from the other side. The fuel pumps for Volvo P2 cars come with a loop of hose with a venturi in it to pull gas from the other side. You have to remove the fuel level sender from that side to pull the hose into place.
Better to have somebody else's finger trapped, greased and bruised than your own while figuring out what'swrong with your car. In this case the previous owner did some tinkering on the fuelpump and didn't tighten it properly because of lack of knowledge or the right tools. Ernest said it in the video.
whether it does or not ... a fuel pump is to pump raw gasoline to the engine. ANY small spark you get for whatever reason may cause an explosion or serious burn if you make a mistake. Hire a real pro and pay him!
It's only a bad idea to fix your own car if you don't know what you're doing,I knew a mechanic who didn't know what he was doing when he gave my car a wheel alignment so I took it somewhere else. I do all my own work except the wheel alignment & the registration inspection since I'm not an automotive mechanic by trade although I have done a small automotive course & a lot of reading up on the subject
Awesome video bro! Watching you from Mexico 🤟 Like the way you show the working process and describe everything! Just have a question, is it recommended to change fuel filter with a fuel pump at the same time? Or it’s not necessary? Have my buddys 2005 Nissan Frontier not starting and just changed fuel pump but the fuel tank is starting to rust inside and saw some flake’swimming
I had the fuel pump replaced on my 2000 Corolla by a trained mechanic. It means opening the fuel tank with raw fuel visible and any spark at all mean you can die or be very badly burned. I paid the man for what he knew how to do ...
'but but but ' he fixes his own cars for "small stuff" and said so and is saving some money. If you already know how to do something, sometimes another person needs someone with just that skill for a trade or just for courtesy.
is there a way u can test the new fuel pump before installing it? u wouldnt want to have a faulty new fuel pump, install it and find out the car still doesnt start cuz the new one is defective.
You can run a couple jumper wires off a 12 volt power supply and touch them to the connector leads on the pump and see if it turns on. I have a cheap knockoff power probe that lets me power individual components like headlights horn fuel pump etc. So I can tell if the part is faulty or if it's just not getting power to it for some reason. Handy tool

Just spray some stater fluid in intake to check.

Its good to work on your own car stop trying tell ppl they shoulden work on there own car
It is a bad idea to try to fix your own car, if you don’t know what you are doing 😁
IF you do not know what you are doing ... You are a master of the obvious.
What if you know what you are doing?

Your headliner is awesome! Loving the space theme.

Not easy for most people. Good work

Dodge charger has same style but with 2 pumps style sometimes you have to replace both
Play 6:45 to 7:02 with your eyes closed 😂
Jobs don't have to be super hard to be ouchy ! I felt that pain with you. Done it to myself too many times. All the best to you and yours.
Been fixing mine and my families cars for 30 years or more. It's only a bad idea if you have no clue what you are doing. lol
Never a bad idea to work on your own vehicle just need to be smart about it luckily my 98 Ford e250 fuel pump assembly is bolted in not lock Ring in
It is only bad if you don’t know what you are doing.
Skip the 'only' part.... every way is generally wrong unless you know just what to do.

Volvo. Nuff said.
....good job Ernest....enjoyed the video...thanks for posting... 🙂
ANOTHER GREAT JOB FOR THE BOOKS
Next time, test the fuel pump before closing up the lid. I have had bad pumps out of the box.
I'm not sure how the title applies.
The previous repair didn't tighten the ring. Not sure how critical that is, to be honest, but not unheard of by us DIYer types.
Maybe he just wanted to annoy his viewers a bit.. I clicked it so it must work a bit, as long as the content is ok

Never heard of clickbait

not 'ONLY' ... you can be ignorant and make a mess and be without a running car and no one to repair it. Do not assume.

All right like your videos I wish I could donate please keep them coming
you being here is all we need! thanks for the visit!
Nice video! What was in that red and white can that was sprayed on the fuel pump connector? Brake cleaner? Silicone? Or…?
How is your Launch scanner???
But you fix your own cars ! lol
'but but but ' he fixes his own cars for "small stuff" and said so and is saving some money. If you already know how to do something, sometimes another person needs someone with just that skill for a trade or just for courtesy.
that old fuel pump didn't look too old
Hopefully that is an OEM or Motorcraft fuel pump. Some of the aftermarket ones are quite sketchy at best.

Ford thunder.
Title is click bait.
So what? if it is, it does not mean this video and the other ones are useless.
anyone who thinks he can figure it all out like a pro mechanic is kidding himself.
Why are you not driving your van anymore? I can't find an explanation.
