UA-cam algorithms are harsh! However, this video has twice the views as any Paradox produced videos on Vic 2. This video should get a bump with Vicky 3 being hot garbage!
"The consequences of playing Belgium when France is your neighbour" I just finished my very first Vic II game and chose Belgium. France got bullied by Germany, they tried to reconquer Alsace Lorraine several times without any success. They never attacked me and when France and Russia tried to take back their territories by declaring war on Germany and their ally England, I joined Germany and even took two states from the French 10/10, would play again
I just started playing it this week after seeing Bokoen & Cia play it for years. I learned the basics with Ecuador. 5 or 6 unsuccesful games until I pulled a "nothing is on fire" victory, with a decent army, a transport fleet for the Galapagos and 2 factories working nice and smoothly. The only rebellions I had were fascists in the late game.
@@nosouponhead March of the Eagles for example. Imperator Rome, this is kinda controversial but personally I couldn’t have fun with it. There are more but they’re old so it wouldn’t be fair to bring them up.
Best part is that Vic 2 still has an extremely active MP community that engages so many people. Large competitive and casual MP games are still very prevalent!
I recently started playing Vicky 2 again, but I found the diplomacy and army creation tedious, and my biggest gripe with Vicky 2 is that I constantly had to go into the game files to understand how for example migration works. I still have no idea how the game prioritizes which pops get which goods that they need if you don't produce enough for everyone, which is hugely important to prevent rebellions and push reforms. That said, it is probably the best Paradox game where peacetime is concerned, as a lot of the game doesn't have to do with war; things like literacy rate and pop welfare and migration are at the core of the game. So far it looks like Vicky 3 will be much more player friendly, and could well become my new favorite game, surpassing even EU4 🤞
I'm a bit disapointed with CK3 so far, can't really say why. I played the heck out of CK1&2 and Vici2. It looks good but it's just missing something, I don't want to wait 5 years and pay 20 DLC's to enjoy Victoria 2. But it seems this is the way, nowadays.
@Deep Root Calanchus Might wanna try Terra Invicta in the meantime if you good with the setting (todays world, xcom-style alien invasion). It's a lot of subterfuge and politics and later on The Expanse style space combat. Definitly challenging and a nice sandbox. The tug of war over the influence over nations reminds me a bit of Victoria 2. Been playing it for a couple days and having a blast.
I think the best part about Vicky II is infinite replayability. The game has so many options that it's almost impossible to do everything in a lifetime. The sphere system is unique to Vicky Alone, and the industry system is incredibly fun to build up and expand. The War System (while favoring the AI) is still very fun, and giant retard wars are fun to fight. Vicky II in my opinion is one of the best for creating your own story. If you want to create a Nationalistic Germany bent on incorporating all Germans (and similar cultures) into one giant Monarchy, you can do that. If you want to restore Napoleon's Empire, you can do that too. If you want to spark a world revolution by puppeting half of Europe, then you can do that. And throughout it all you can create your own story for why it's happening and how these Empires came to be. You can alter history in an infinite amount of ways. I love Vicky II for this reason. It is by far my favorite Paradox Game. The only other game that even remotely captured this same sense of infinite replayability for me was Stellaris.
Because it doesn’t shove the morally right choice down your throat. It let you see the 19th century for what it really was, with all of its flaws and fascinations. It created a realistic dynamic and left the moral decision making to you.
@@haotatyan Ummmm Note to those with their heads in the sand, there is more slaves TODAY than there has been at any point in History. And I am not even talking about debt slavery

Vicky 2 was my first Paradox Game. It was by far my favorite up until Vicky 3 after they brought back private investments. I honestly have been enjoying Victoria 3; I certainly dont miss fighting my 12th Anarcho-Communist rebellion from Victoria 2, but it will always feel special to me.
Despite peoples doubts about it, I’m super excited for Victoria 3. Started playing Vicky 2 again to prepare. Got a good thing going as Canada, even became a great power, sphered Denmark and conquered Haiti…before USA declared war and obliterated my army out of nowhere and then like five rebellions happened before I could even make one new unit.

@@heathclark318my dear friend economics in Victoria3 is so much better but I definitely agree that in warfare and overall flavor which makes each country special victoria3 can be considered a failed game which is easily fixable with dlcs and updates and the new 1.7 patch and spheres of influence dlc is a sign that they are moving in the right direction atleast in my mind they are doing so

I think this games fans really hype this game up too much, it’s got great ideas but most of its not implemented all that well and is full of objectively bad game designs, I *kinda* like the game myself though the games fans are too liberal with their praise.
