- Benefits according to Sutra are included in the full name of this mantra -- "Dhāraṇī for pulling out the fundamental cause of karmic obstacles and obtaining rebirth in the Pure Lands" (Chinese: 拔一切業障根本得生淨土陀羅尼). It is also known as Pure Land Rebirth Dhāraṇī (Chinese: 往生淨土神咒; Wang Sheng Jing Tu Shen Zhou), or Rebirth Mantra (Chinese: 往生咒; Wang Sheng Zhou) for short. They also state the benefits of chanting -- auspicious circumstances and rebirth in Amitabha's Pureland in the future.
RECITE OR PLAY FOR LOVED ONES and PETS: It is is also recommended by many teachers to recite this Dharani for your loved ones, including pets, who have passed on, to ease their way to Amitabha's blissful pureland. For example, playing the mantra at end-of-life (for all beings, pets incldued) is a common practice.
DAILY CHANTING: It is usually recited 21, 27 or 49 times per day. For retreats, healing or special meditations, and hour of chanting is recommended.

Reciting or listening to this mantra brings a peaceful and joy in this life, and helps them to be reborn into the Buddha Amitabha's Buddha-field of Ultimate Bliss Sukhavati. It can also be recited to help the spirits of the animals that a person has killed in the past, including poultry, game, aquatic creatures, insects, etc. to ascend to a higher spiritual realm.
Also known as Sarvatathāgatāyurvajrahṛdaya-dhāraṇī and often incorrectly labeled the Amitayus Dharani - here, beautifully chanted by Buddha Weekly with the Amitabha root mantra 7 times, and the long Dharani 3 times -- chanted in the original Sanskrit as written in the Sutra.
We begin this one hour session with beautiful chanting of OM AMI DEVA HRI, the heart essence mantra of Amitabha. The actual Dharani is:
Namo ratnatrayāya
Nama āryāmitābhāya
tathāgatāyārhate saṃyaksaṃbuddhāya
Tadyathā:
oṃ amṛte amṛtodbhave amṛtasaṃbhave amṛtagarbhe
amṛtasiddhe amṛtateje amṛtavikrānte
amṛtavikrāntagāmini amṛtagaganakīrtikari
amṛtadun-dubhisvare sarvārthasādhani
sarvakarmakleśakṣayaṃkari svāhā
Aum, brum, hum
TRANSLATED TO ENGLISH:
Homage to the Three Jewels,
Homage to the noble Amitabha (Infinite Light),
to the Tathāgata, the Arhat, the completely and perfectly awakened one (samyaksambuddha).
Thus:
Oṃ O immortality (amrta), O maker of immortality! O born of immortality! O essence/embryo (garbha) of immortality!
O immortality perfecting one! O the brilliance (teja) of immortality! O he who goes beyond immortality!
O he who goes beyond immortality and whose glory is infinite as the sky (amṛtagaganakīrtikare)
O sound of the drum of immortality realizing (sadhane) benefit for all.
O he who destroys (ksayam) all karmic afflictions. Hail!
NOTE ON AUM BRUM HUM:
Aum is the ultimate seed syllable. In Buddhism we usually spell it OM, more of less the sound, but it is actually representative of AUM. These three letters have different meaning in Buddhism from other spiritual paths. "A" stands for the Enlightened Body of Buddha, "U" is the Enlightened Speech of Buddha and "M" is the Enlightened Mind of Buddha. Whenever we say OM, we are paying homage to the Body, Speech and Mind of Buddha. Sometimes, for example, we touch our crown with our hands held in the prayer mudra, then the throat, then in front of our hearts, then we bow. (Formal prostration). This blesses our body, speech and mind with AUM.
BRUM is a very powerful seed syllable (there is a blessing “Brum Hri” - Hri is the seed syllable of Amitabha’s Padma family). BRU means “to speak” (brum means “I speak”) (In Tibetan this is often transliterated as Droom or Drum)
HUM Huṃ (short ‘u’ as in put), is, of course is the seed syllable and it’s associated with Bodhichitta. It is usually translated as “seed of knowledge”. Hum is “Mind of Awakening” (Enlightened Mind). In actuality, there is no “literal translation” of Hum as it’s considered a sacred seed syllable, which transcends a single meaning (similarly for most seed syllables and especially OM or AUM). Often in Buddhism, we “shortform” HUM with the lotus (hence Om Mani Padme Hum is translated as “Homage the Jewel in the Lotus) but seed syllables are far more layered and nuanced that “lotus” (Lotus is a symbol with many meanings, i.e. the lotus grows in the filth and mud, but emerges as the most glorious of flowers). Hum often ends mantras focusing on the mind of awakening or on compassion.

Thank you for your kindness 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤❤❤ May all beings benefit 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤❤❤
I watched this video the morning it was released right after I woke up, and I sang along all the way, word for word. I didn't associate what would happen later with this right on, but as it turns out, I spent the whole day with Amitābha's name playing on the background of my mind continuously, like a luminous stream of Buddha remembrance. Whereas I usually struggle to concentrate in my everyday practice, after reciting this blessed dhāraṇī, I nearly had to struggle not to think of the Buddha as I went through my mundane business. Thank you so much! This video will make me company for a long time!
That's a wonderful story. The Amitabha Dharani inspires a feeling joy and peace. Om Amitabha Hri Om Ami Deva Hri 🙏🙏🙏

I am trying to find the long life buddha Amitayus mantra in Sanskrit but couldn't.
It would be great if you guys can come up with it.
Nevertheless,Thank you for this ,Bhuddha weekly❤
Thanks for listening. Do you mean chanted. If the short mantra is the one you are looking for we have not yet recorded this (we do plan to in future). It's a short one:
oṃ amaraṇi jīvantaye svāhā
ओं अमरणि जीवन्तये स्वाहा
In Tibetan it's not dramatically different; it reads as: oṃ ā ma ra ṇi dzi wan te ye svā hā
Is this the one you're looking for? In kindness, BW
@@BuddhaWeekly Yes thats the one. Waiting for it to get published 🙂
great meditation, is there a chance that the content could also be translated into Tibetan, apart from Sanskrit? (phonetically)
Thank you. The mantra is ཨོཾ་ཨ་མི་དྷེ་ཝ་ཧྲཱིཿ Our volunteers have trouble getting every language in. I don't know if we can translate the video descriptions and captions (other than mantras), but we'll try to find a volunteer. In kindness, Metta, BW

Just curious if “Amitābha Sutra” is possible or already here, thanks.☀
Not yet, sorry. We do plan it in future. In kindness, BW Om Amitabha Hrih 🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
