I thought Neil was Trevor Cogger at first! That field goal from Dallas was pure gold... brings back good memories of watching the magpies from the top of the toilet block at the northern end of Lidcombe oval.
Was at this game.I was seven years old.I played for Enfield Federals and we used to play at half time sometimes at Lidcombe Oval.Great Day / Great Memories.
Parramatta thought they were going to be in for a easy win that day. They always choked when playing Wests at Lidcombe. Thanks for posting the footage of Dallas kicking the field goal...Happy childhood memories brought back.
John Donnelly, top bloke. Had class! His cousins could play too, Brian, Terry, and heard Garry wasn't bad either (their dad played top grade with Newtown).
At the time LIDCOMBE OVAL was a graveyard for PARRAMATTA. In 1972 WESTS defeated the EELS 52-10......and from that year Parramatta lost every match v Wests at Lidcombe until 1984...which was the year that Wests only won 1 game !!!
Great stuff! Let`s be fair to Wests. They had Terry Lamb, Dallas and Alan Neil and so on. Plus Parra had that Lidcombe Hoodoo. But the telecast is magic. They were still giving scrum scores back then. Blokes were kicking for goal with the old toebasher and still making it bend. Bloody front rowers kicking field goals! Viva la 80s!
I have stopped following blood sports since 18 yrs ago. But when I did follow rugby, I was a staunch Wests supporter. I didn't care about Wests Manly matches. The team I had it in for was Parramatta; because my sister (21 yrs my senior) and her daughter (1 yr my senior) both supported Parramatta. And so did most kids in my school. So Wests Parramatta matches were like war. And this one, which I clearly remember, was the most memorable one. Parramatta, eat Wests' dust.
Yea spot on. I recall Neil being out injured for most of 1982. He struggled to get back into first grade again that year even though he was playing well. I think Lamb played half back and Greg Cox was five eight for most of the year ?
It was a funny thing through that era. Even the years Wests only won one game. It always seemed to be against the team who would go on to win the comp.
go magpies spent all time patting the boys as they run out on Lidcombe oval went to concerts save the magpies when short of money I think rick wade help save them at that time I really missed them gooo west
The first try had chasers in front of the kicker and within the radius of 10m. The Parramatta fullback never touched the ball. This was ruled as play on and a tackle nullification and a try to Wests. It should have been a penalty to Parramatta. A disgraceful decision by referee John Gocher who was given no assistance at all from touch judges Thomsett and McCall.
Yeh they got rid of Norths with every trick they could even though Norths built Central Coast stadium and also Norths decided not to go to super league (loyalty mean't nothing apparently), but Arthurson and Quayle still fucked them over. We were sacrificed to keep Manly afloat.

Alan Neil would have had to be one of the most underated halfbacks in the late 70's early 80's.

Go Rex Mossip! "Could have driven a horse and dray through that gap!"
Yeah they asked Dallas after the game why he kicked a field goal. Dallas said because it's mothers day lol

Greg is a top bloke he drives our bus on occasions here at Kirra
Just looked at the teams again and yeah you're right actually.
Looking for the return game in 82 which parra won 24-7 my first game I ever watched live
Yeah...we still went on to win the Premiership that year, our second in a row.

Giorgio Moroder ♫ Chase (theme from Midnight Express)
I think Lamb came off for Neil at half-time or just after.
look at the camera crew on the sideline go at 2:10
Formed a great combination with Terry Lamb.
What is the name of the backing music to this vid?
Haha hardly any padding on the posts back then :)
go magpies spent all time patting the boys as they run out on Lidcombe oval went to concerts save the magpies when short of money I think rick wade help save them at that time I really missed them gooo west
Thay should rebuild lidcombe oval for training games for wests magpies and for wests Tigers like redfurn oval
Are you kidding? This is the same parramatta side that went on to win the 1982 season... Which marquee players are missing? I'd like to know??

1/ if you paid attention you will notice the kicker ran through and put them onside. 2/ back then there was no 10 yard rule. It was only 5
Piss off Nrl..... Says it all really. The destruction of the old clubs was the beginning of the end for rugby league.
